AARHUS UNIVERSITY

FACULTY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES

Master of science in Biosystems engineeringThe world’s population is increasing and so is the demand for food and energy. The production of more food has a significant impact on the environment – locally as well as globally. Therefore, solutions that ensure sustainable development and coexistence between agriculture, nature and the environment are required. New sustainable technologies must be developed, and scientists with interdisciplinary skills in biology and technology will be in demand.

In this MSc programme you will learn about the environment and agriculture, system technolo-gies, and how to organise and manage the production of food and biomass for energy. You will also be trained to act as a consultant on automation technologies that ensure implementation of the right technologies.

”the degree provides ex-

pertise in both environ-

mental and agricultural

technology. i personally

have an opportunity to

specialise in biogas. this is

an energy technology that

can be very significant in

both Denmark and Ghana,”

says raphael Kubeba ta-

base from Ghana.

the choice is yoursWith an MSc in Biosystems Engineering, you will specialise in either automation or environmental technologies:

In the automation line, your studies are based on knowledge about handling and interpreting sensor data from biological environments and using data in designing and manufacturing automation equipment. This line solves problems and supplements innovative environments for manufacturing agricultural automation equipment for the benefit of nature, primary agriculture and related industries.

The environmental technology line focuses on developing optimal solutions for livestock production with minimal impact on the environment. Conversion of biomasses into energy and production of biogas are central elements in this programme.

Wide range of knowledgeYou are taught by scientists from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Aarhus University and from Aarhus School of Engineering. The degree programme thus relates to – and benefits from – research and development projects carried out at these institutions.

Aarhus University and Aarhus School of Engineering have advanced equipment and laboratories at their disposal for study purposes. To a very large extent, the work is project-oriented and you solve current problems in research projects.

international degreeThe study environment is international, and you will experience a challenging, exciting atmosphere with fellow students from various nations. This also means that you will be taught in English. The international perspective is an intrinsic part of the degree.

your thesisYou can complete your Master’s thesis in collaboration with researchers or private companies. The thesis is a direct part of a development or research project. As a student, you are expected to be creative and targeted. You will develop a constructive and critical approach to your own work and that of others - not only during the course work but especially during writing of your thesis. This will qualify you for project leadership and integration of biology with technology at a high level.

Career prospectsThe MSc in Biosystems Engineering provides you with insight and academic skills that qualify you for a career in production companies, engineering firms, consultancy companies, environmental management services and research environments.
