What is Bioengineering?The Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering program provides a solid background for students wishing to pursue graduate or medical school or a career in industry. Bioengineers are in research and development labs in all areas of medicine from investigating the physiological behavior of a single cell to designing implants using living and non-living materials. Areas of study include tissue engineering, biophotonics, cardiovascular devices, bioinstrumentation, and nanoscale biointerfaces.

What is Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering?From biofuels to disease-fighting drugs, chemical engineers design processes to create, purify and transport advanced materials — starting with experimentation in laboratories through the commercial scale. They are at the forefront of exciting new fields making pivotal contributions in labs, hospitals, government agencies, academic institutions, manufacturing facilities, and corporate boardrooms.

As a chemical engineering major at Clemson University, you’ll combine chemistry, biology, physics and mathematics courses to address a variety of technical challenges facing the world today.

To help further specialize your training, we offer a concentration in biomolecular engineering. This emerging discipline addresses the purposeful manipulation of biological molecules to solve problems in medicine, biotechnology and the life sciences.

What is Materials Science and Engineering?Materials scientists and engineers design, develop, and produce both traditional and new advanced materials with diverse applications intended for use in a wide variety of industries. These include materials-intensive industries such as the structural clay, foundry, whiteware, polymers, plastics, fibers, textiles, composite materials, and automotive industries. What is Computer Engineering?Computer engineering is a discipline that integrates training in computer science and electronics engineering to enable graduates to develop computer hardware and software. Computer engineers are involved in many hardware and software aspects of computing, from the design of individual microcontrollers, microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design. Computer engineers write software and firmware for embedded microcontrollers and design VLSI chips, sensors, mixed-signal circuit boards, and operating systems.

Computer engineers work in many areas of specialization including information security, communications and wireless networks, compilers and operating systems, computational science and engineering, mobile computing and distributed systems, computer architecture and parallel processing, computer vision and robotics, embedded systems, integrated circuits, and signal and image processing. Computer engineering students can choose from a wide variety of technical electives to obtain exposure to these areas.

What is Mechanical Engineering?

Mechanical engineers usually focus on matters related, but not limited to, manufacturing, energy, machines, materials, transportation and design – perhaps a wider range of areas than any other engineering discipline. During your time on campus you will learn to apply methods of engineering analysis and design to various aspects of life. This could include areas such as: manufacturing, energy conversion and conservation, machines, materials, health, and vehicles for air, sea, and land transportation.

As a mechanical engineer, you will be eligible for several different career paths upon graduation. This could include graduate school in specific areas within mechanical engineering, medical school, law school, business, nuclear or automotive fields.
