Congratulations to Matthew DelVecchio!!! Matt was selected to participate in the prestigious 2013 Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Student to Student members from all over the world applied to attend this leadership training and only 10 were selected. Matt was the only student selected from Texas! This one week intensive leadership training focus on nurturing and developing leadership skills, patriotism, commitment to selfless service, intellectual and problem-solving capacity. Stacey is very proud of Matt’s accomplishments and his dedication to the s2s program. The program was named for Ms. Frances Hesselbein, in recognition of her dedication to the development of children and youth. Under the direction of the MCEC, and following the inspiration and guidance of Ms. Hesselbein, this one-week program will deliver intensive training, interaction with positive role models, and practical applications which benefit participants in their studies and throughout their lifetimes. First offered at the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2007, the Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program takes a unique, fun and hands-on approach to learning outside the classroom — and students leave with a greater appreciation for school and their studies. On March 7th 2013 the 1st grade class performed the musical “Too Much Noise” in the elementary Cafeteria. Parents and fellow

Students enjoyed selections such as “Donkey Donkey” and “Bought Me A Cat”. Thanks to our fabulous music teacher Ms. Cara Coffey. Terrific Job First Grade!

First graders show their paper bag pig puppets! Cute….Mrs.

Allen read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, and the

students discussed the story elements along with the craft.

Alyssa and William show their skills in addition using a dice game

called “Two Dice Sums”. The first graders in Mrs. Allen’s class

practiced placing the sums in a graph to also work on graphing to

determine which sums had the highest probability of winning!

The winning Earth Day poster will be put in the JBSA newspaper and posted

throughout JBSA.

Contest Rules:

* You must be from Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB or Randolph AFB schools.

* All artists of traditional media (oil/acrylic/tempera, watercolors,

illustrations, prints) and of computer graphics are invited to participate

in this annual competition! All submissions must represent the unique style

and imagery of Earth Day reflecting the excitement and spirit of our bases.

* Each entry must be a completely original concept not used in other

posters, promotions or events. Entries should contain no florescent or

metallic colors.

* Submit your work in a vertical poster format measuring 22″ wide by 28″

high.

* Deadline for submissions will be 5 p.m. April 26, 2013. You must submit

your entry by that date or earlier on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

and Friday by end of school day.

* Do not sign or otherwise identify yourself on the front of the entry.

Secure your contact information (your name, your teacher, grade and

school/base) to the back of the poster.

* Entries not submitted by April 26, will be discarded.

Additional Information:

* Judges will look at concept, artistic integrity, visual presentation and

merchandising adaptation. The winning artist will be honored through the

base news paper and will be the 2013 JBSA Earth Day poster winner.
