In my article on the Koreanflag, I mentioned the taegeuk, the eum-yang symbol at theheart of the Korean flag andthe kwaes, Korean divinationsigns, of which 4 appear onthe Korean flag. Well when reading up on thethe 8 coloured belt patterns, Idiscovered that not only arethey called the Taegeukpatterns (i.e. at the heart oflearning Taekwondo), butalso they represent 8 kwaes,or divination signs.
What, when I was learning, were just a sequence ofmoves, have taken on threedimensions and a life all theirown in discovering moreabout what they represent. It starts with pattern 1, Il jang, which represents thebeginning and creation ofall things, and moves fromthere, till reaching the firstblack belt pattern, Koryo, thatrepresents the learnedperson.
Due to increasing studentnumbers in our beginnerTigers and Dragonsprograms, we will beintroducing two new classesfrom Monday 16 March. Tuesdays 4:30pm - 5:15pmBeginners Tigers class (5-7 year olds) Thursdays 4:30pm - 5:15pmBeginners Dragons class(8-11 year olds)
We are also combiningIntermediate and AdvancedTigers in our Wednesday5:15pm - 6:00pm class. Our new class timetable isavailable at:www.kmaa.com.au/timetable To book into one of theseclasses, please contactreception in person, or [email protected]
