There appears to be very little research around therelationship between map and art or map and beautyand how we recognise visual images that have map likequalities.

This book shows examples of maps produced toexamine the design factors which reveal the mystery ofartistic and design expression to communicate thenotion of mapness.

In order to investigate what others might employ togive authenticity to the route of a journey I undertook‘Mapping a Journey’. My intention was to purposefullycreate a situation where design aware individuals wouldneed to call upon their repository of acquiredcharacteristics for visual conveyance of an illustration ofjourney. This journey was from the door of the buildingto their desks. What conventions would they evoke,which may they break and what might they invent.Would indeed map archetypes become evident in theirneed to express a very human necessity, getting from Ato B?
