Product Quality

What does SPF mean?

• SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor.

• The higher the SPF the better the protection against UVB rays.

• If your skin would normally burn after 10 minutes in the sun, applying an SPF 15 sunscreen would allow you to stay in the sun without burning for approximately 150 minutes (i.e. 15 times longer). This is a figure that is established in a laboratory with specified coverage and light intensity.

• Everybody’s skin is different and the amount applied tends to be less than ideal. Be vigilant that you are not burning, if necessary apply a higher SPF, cover up or seek shade.


What does SPF mean?

• Lotions of low SPF should only be used by people with darker skin who are confident they won’t burn.

• SPF15, if used generously, will filter 93% of the UVB rays, SPF30 filters almost 97%, there is no such thing as a 100% sun block.

• Malibu recommends children are protected with a minimum of SPF20, use of a hat and loose clothing and as always, be vigilant that they are not burning.


What is Broad Spectrum?

• UVB = Burning. UVA = Aging.

• Our products are broad spectrum and filter both UVB and UVA.

• The EU recommends that protection products should have a minimum of 1/3rd the protection of UVA compared to UVB – this is approximately the same as 3 star*.


Rules for a safe holiday

• The sun is more intense in hot climates and will burn more quickly. Use a higher SPF than you would normally and take care not to burn.

• Use loose clothing, a hat and sunglasses for extra protection.

• Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm.

• Don’t forget that the sun can burn even on overcast days.

• Don’t overdo sunbathing as it can cause damage to the skin that will be evident when you are older.
