Who do you engage?
• People will react emo6onally • Find a project where “buy in” is high • Quick wins build credibility and
strengthen team work • Selflessly share the credit and openly
praise efforts • Your biggest detractors will become
your biggest advocates • It is business and not personal
Remember this is not a popularity contest
Savings vs. Cost Avoidance
It is all – “Real Green Dollars”!! • It is all the same although everyone does
not realize this • The efforts will all result in “real green
dollars” which benefits your organiza6on and everyone in it
• Keep a ledger of the savings that result for repor6ng on at least a monthly basis
• Projects need to be closed out with educa6on and documenta6on to ensure that they are sustainable
• Follow-‐up on a monthly basis with owners iden6fied to offer support with issues
Efficiency is the key
Evaluate each Process • Are you evalua6ng new processes/technology?
• Automa6on vs. manual • Full-‐Service vs. Basic mail • Shop floor repor6ng tools
• Enhance communica6ons and repor6ng quality • Leverage efficiencies to drive revenue opportunity
(As you save, keep the money rather than passing it on)
• Do not try to do too much at one 6me – Frequent priori6za6on and communica6on
Iden<fica<on becomes implementa<on
You will find plenty of opportunity • Understand and define each opportunity • Validate before presen6ng and promising • Admit what you do not know and enlist help from USPS, network and vendors to clarify
and educate • Know this will take 6me and know what resources you will need before you are asked
• Do not be overwhelmed or let others pressure you for “Quick ac6on”
• It took 6me for things to get this way and will take 6me to be corrected
• As the Subject Maaer Expert (SME) be confident and resolved to deliver the most effec6ve and efficient solu6ons to your organiza6on
• There will be many ques6ons and opinions you will need to address
Iden<fica<on becomes implementa<on
Have fun • Celebrate victories • Learn from opportuni6es lost • Change what you can and accept the things
you cannot • Build strong business rela6onships – Internal
and External • Lean heavily on your vendors for solu6ons
and help • They have tons of experience and
knowledge • They have services you may not even
know about that can help
Iden<fica<on becomes Implementa<on
Report – Document – Repeat • If it is not documented it is not done • Send reports to your boss and all Team
members (Required or not) • Give and take credit for what you have
accomplished and created • Ask about other sites the organiza6on may
have • Do not forget about volume processed
through expedited carriers (UPS, FedEx, etc.)
Marathon vs. Sprint Give yourself <me to breathe • Remember to take manageable
“bites of the elephant” • Know there will be days where you
feel like a “Veterinarian” • Embrace every day for what you
accomplish and be professional • Praise and recogni6on will come but
not always when you feel it should (That was never the primary reason for your efforts anyway!)
• Always share the credit

• Par6cipate in the industry • Be involved in the opera6on and
