Sowing seedsto help little readers grow

Everyone canrealise their inner PicassoDAYLESFORD is a creative town and spiritual home for artists of all genres. If you’re a little intimidated by a blank canvas, Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre (13 Camp Street) is holding two courses, confidently entitled ‘Everyone Can Draw’, and ‘Everyone Can Paint’. Indeed! If you have dreams of whiling away the hours in your cosy studio creating works of art, this could be for you! Both courses are open to everyone of any age, with minimal experience. They are about experimenting with new mediums, developing skills and opening the mind to encourage those creative visions move out of your head and onto the canvas. Everyone Can Draw will be held weekly (eight sessions) from Monday, October 3. 5:50pm ‘til 7:30pm. Cost $290. Everyone Can Paint will be held weekly (eight sessions) from Wednesday October 5. 4:30pm ‘til 7:30pm. Cost $490 or $90 per session). For more info and enrolments call: 5348 3569.

IT IS notoriously tricky to fill two weeks with excellent (screen-free) school holiday fun. Daylesford Library (33 Albert Street) to the rescue… Primary school aged kids are invited to turn off the telly, put the iPad away, close the laptop, shut the DS, hand back the Wii controllers to Dad, and head to the Library for some fun in the dirt. (Yep, we said dirt, not books)! Monday October 1, Tuesday October 2, and Wednesday October 3, kids are invited to come along, (2:30-3:30pm) to plant some seeds, make a flowerpot to take home, and hang out and listen to some stories. The seeds will be watered and watched by our green thumbed librarians, and when your seedlings are big enough they’ll be transferred into the community garden next door. Call the library to book your place: 5348 2800, or visit: centralhighlandslibraries.org.au.

Hot diggety, we’ve diedand gone to hot rod heavenWELL before Castlemaine had a reputation for fine arts, food and culture, it had a reputation for car polish, gleaming chrome, and fat tyres. We’re talkin’ hot rods. Purring works of art on four wheels. Castlemaine is most certainly the Hot Rod Capital of Australia, and each year the wee village of Newstead (just down the road from Castlemaine) roars into life as it hosts the ‘Chopped Rod & Custom’ weekend. Chopped is a fusion of music, fox tails, flames, fashion and rockabilly retro held over three days (this year: Friday October 5, to Sunday, October 7) at the Newstead Racecourse (Jockey Drive). Come for the cars, the music, the nostalgic 50s/60s style, the dirt drags, or the artisan paintwork and blinding, gleaming chrome. Thousands of coiffed rodders and roddettes from around the country are expected to converge for the three day festival, camping is available – or grab a day pass for access to fantastic live music, the low brow art show and custom cars, cars, cars. Over the weekend 18 bands will take the stage including the wonderful bluesy-cowgirl-rockabilly songstress Lanie Lane on Saturday night, as well as faves: Howlin’ Steam Train, Frankie Albini & The Fugitives, Fraser A Gorman and plenty more. Kick back in the Tiki Palace bar with a cocktail, the much loved Chopped DJs will be dishing up some tunes and swingin’ 60s style. You wont be able to see them underneath the bamboo, tikis and ‘Easter Island head’ – but you’ll hear them for sure – (just look for the flames shooting skywards out the top of said head). Music kicks off Friday from 3:30pm, till the wee hours, (try not to peak too early, bands take the stage again from 9am Saturday, and again Sunday from 9am).Weekend passes (including camping fees are $70 + booking fee). A weekend pass (no camping) is $50 + booking fee, and day passes are $30. Kids under 12 free. Get tickets from moshtix.com.au or 1300 GET TIX (438 849). More info at: chopped.com.au.

Festival 2012Spring Folk & Blues

over and out in CastlemaineRoger that

HOW much Folk and Blues can you take in a day? Head to Daylesford for the Spring Folk & Blues Festival on Saturday, October 13, to find out! It’s an entire festival-worth of seriously fab folk and broody blues shoe-horned into one enormous day at the Daylesford Town Hall (Vincent Street). The live line up features Lloyd Spiegel, Suzie Dickinson, Geoffrey Williams, Alex Burns and Jen Hawley, Sweet Mona’s Choir, Fat Chance, Table Hill Band, George Condos, Vanessa Craven and Band, and Family Farm. There are workshops on everything from steel guitar to Manouche Caravan Gypsy Jazz and free whiteboard sessions, instrument makers displays and buskers galore.Bands hit the stage from 11am, and full day, half day, evening and workshop tickets can be purchased at the Town Hall from 10am. Nothin’ cures the Winter Blues like a bit o’ Spring Blues. More info at: daylesfordfolkbluesfest.com

FRESH off the stage at the MCG, Tim Rogers has decided to attempt bigger and better things. Sure, singing for roughly 100,000 rowdy peeps on Grand Final Day is swell, but hey, who hasn’t done that right? Tim has booked himself in for (possibly) the show of his life at The Theatre Royal (30 Hargraves Street, Castlemaine). Tim Rogers’ (sizable and impressive) music career has spanned decades, he is a notable pedigree rock dog/god and is well loved both on and off the stage. Recently Tim collaborated with songwriter Shel Rogerstein to create his latest album Rogers Sings Rogerstein. See Tim sing tunes from this album at the Theatre Royal Saturday, October 6. (7pm dinner and show, $69, or 8:15 show only $34). For bookings call the theatre on 5472 1196 or for more info visit: theatreroyal.info.

(...unless you’re dancing)Sunday. A day of rest

Printy as a picturelessons in rollers and inkBRIDGET Farmer is not a farmer. It would actually be much more apt if her surname was Printmaker. Bridget moved from Ireland 12 months ago and set up her little printmaking studio in the bush just five minutes from Daylesford. And now that the sun is shining back in through her studio windows and the birds are making sweet music in the trees, Bridget wants to share her inspirational creative space, and is hosting printmaking classes. Saturday, October 20, (10am - 4pm) learn Block Printing with Card. An easy way to create fun, bold, striking prints. Cost $110. Monday, October 15, (6pm – 9pm for 4 weeks) learn Blind Embossing and create a beautifully textured embossed book. Cost $170. Next month Bridget will host Dry Point Etching classes. (Call for details). Classes will be small with all materials provided. (BYO apron and rubber gloves, it’s going to get messy!) Call Bridget for info: 0452 339 323, or go to bridgetfarmer.blogspot.com

WHO DOESN’T love a Sunday sesh at a fave local pub with a bit of awesome live music and pals? No one in the known universe that’s who. The Old Hepburn Hotel is a Sunday Session veteran, and is serving up cleansing ales, and super music in the form of Ganga Giri, Sunday, October 14, from 4pm. Ganga Giri mixes up a blend of fat tribal beats and bass, and with a healthy serve of didgeridoo on the side, together they deliver a deep earthy dance experience. Ganga is actually renowned as one of the finest didge players on our sizable planet, well worth the wee $15 cover charge to witness.Gather up your Sunday crew and catch Ganga Giri at the Old Hep, (236 Main Road, Hepburn Springs). To partake in the Sunday sesh awesomeness call the pub: 5348 2207.

The trials and tribulationsof a sheep dogTHE VILLAGES around here are boutiquey, pretty, and have coffee to rival any city laneway pop-up-hole-in-the-wall-cold-drip-eco-latte, but despite the city slickery you’re still deep in the country folks. And that means farmers, farms, sheep and sheep dogs. The Castlemaine and District Agricultural Society is hosting the annual Sheep Dog Trials, Saturday October 20 and Sunday October 21 at Camp Reserve, (Forest Street Castlemaine).Come and see dogs named Blue, Red and Fang (no blow-dried hand-bagged Fifi, Fluffy and Princess pooches allowed), race around and herd up wayward sheep into pens with freakish skill. The doggies will be competing both days from 8:30am ‘til 5:30pm. There’ll be a BBQ (no doubt a bit distracting for the dogs hard at work) available all day. Entry $3 (kids free). More info call: Debbie Hamilton 0413 339 058 or 5472 1548.

...with a chance of ChardonnayCloudy...

TWELVE months (and countless clouds) have passed since the last Passing Clouds Winery (30 Rodda’s Lane, Musk) wine release. Another long season of tending the vines, delicately handling the grapes, talking to the barrels (and chasing Nillo the wine dog), has passed by once more. The new vintages are in the bottles, and the snow on the hill has melted (yes, that happened this season - they don’t call this wine region ‘cool climate’ for nothin’)! So the winemakers, Graeme and Cameron Leith are rolling out the picnic blankets, polishing glasses and pulling a few corks to celebrate the annual Passing Clouds Wine Release Day, Saturday, October 20, 11am ‘til 5pm. This annual event is a deliciously fun day out. Bring family and friends, picnic blankets and baskets, sit on the lawn or under the umbrellas and taste, purchase, and enjoy the SEVEN new release wines on offer: (including 2010 The Angel Cabernet Sauvignon, 2010 Reserve Shiraz, 2010 Merlot, 2011 Bendigo Shiraz, 2010 Graeme’s Blend Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012 Chardonnay and the new Sparkling Chardonnay - 4 years on lees. (BYO designated driver we thinks!) The Ugly Uncles (don’t say we didn’t warn you) will be performing live all afternoon, and local chef Cameron McKenzie will be cooking up slow braised Tuki spring lamb in the big pan. There will be BBQ fires if you feel like BBQing up a bit of meat, or just load a basket full of cheeses and local delights to share over a glass of something new from the cellar door. More info call: 5348 5550 or visit: passingclouds.com.au.

Daylesfordin an instant!REMEMBER the days when you had to take your happy snaps to the chemist and wait an excruciating two weeks before you saw just how much fun [insert exotic holiday destination] was? Or if you were uber cool you may remember the awesomeness of having a polaroid instant camera. Wow, haven’t we come along way baby. Patience? Delayed gratification? Pfft!! Whatevs! So, if you’re not down with the other 100 million users world wide, we’re about to introduce you to the world of Instagram* (*warning, seriously addictive…). Instagram is a free photo sharing program/app for your mobile device that gives you that Polaroid or Instamatic look of old, instantly, and it’s got its own social networking tool, bonus! Let’s face it though, we might not have to wait two weeks for developing anymore, but few people actually convert their pics to the printed model… but… this month St Mel Cyclery, Cafe & Gallery (5 Park Lane, Daylesford) is showcasing five local ladies who are not only Instagrammers, but artistes that have printed their work for your viewing pleasure! The Instagram photography of an alternative view of Daylesford and runs from October 20, to November 20 as part of the Hepburn springs Swiss Italian Festa. Images are available for purchase as part of a limited edition run of five prints. Opening night is October 20 at 5pm. For more info visit: stmeldesign.blogspot.com.au or phone: 5348 3665.

and frisbeesA weekend of Penny Farthings

THE BRACKENBURY is an event like no other. No really. Every man and his dog claims to be “like no other” but only The Brackenbury can claim to host a combination of events including: a half marathon, 5 and 10km foot races, penny farthing racing, an Ultimate Frisbee Challenge, mountain bike races, a penny farthing vs mountain bike Duathalon, fishing and photography all under one banner. The word ‘random’ has been so over-used in recent years… but we’re hard pressed to find another more apt.Hellooooo… RANDOM!The Brackenbury, (to be held in Creswick Saturday, October 20, and Sunday, October 21), is a festival of action, sweat, wheels and fun for families, athletes and those just wanting to try something new. Mountain biking will be criss-crossing nearby hills and forest. The duathalon, (penny farthing vs mountain bike) ride/run will see the cycle course vary for the two types of bike, with the finishing line being the same. The race to the line promises to be a spectacle like no other! The Brackenbury introduces a new Frisbee team sport (Ultimate Frisbee). Combining elements of soccer, netball and American football, there will be demonstrations of this high energy (random) new sport on Saturday, October 20, at 10am and 1pm. The tournament is Sunday, October 21. Register from 9am. The Frisbee flies from 9:30.If all this sounds a bit bone-breakingly hectic, the quieter pursuits of fishing (to be held at St Georges lake) and the photography competition will be a time to regain your resting heart rate on both days. The photography comp is open to anyone photographing Brackenbury events during the weekend. If your photo is judged the best you’ll win a very cool $500 bucks thanks very much. All the details, info and everything Brackenbury can be found at thebrackenbury.com.au or for up to the minute info check their facebook (search The.Brackenbury.Creswick).

on the greenFive days

isn’t hard enough! As if mountain biking

TRENTHAM Golf Club’s popular annual Open Tournament is teeing off Tuesday, October 23 ’til Sunday, October 28. This five day golfing feast promises fantastic competitive golf, and a significant amount of friendly rivalry. The Trentham course is beautiful (not that you’ll notice following that little ball around all day) and challenging, (read previous comment about chasing that little white ball)…This year’s tournament events include: a women’s 18-hole Open Stroke, a men’s and women’s 4BBB Stableford, a mixed and men’s 4-person Ambrose, mixed and men’s American Foursomes, and a men’s 36-hole Open Stroke. (Cue: polite golf claps). The picturesque course has recently completed a major redevelopment, with the last of the four new greens opening last month. Come and watch, or get a team together and join in! Entry is open now. Register online at: trenthamgolf.com.au or call the clubhouse for more info: 5424 1240.

IF you can’t navigate your way out of a box of cornflakes, best turn the page, coz this ain’t for you…Sunday, October 21, mountain bikers from all over shall compete in the 5th annual Cyclic Navigator. Traversing the hills, roads, tracks, and trails of Wombat State Forest. You can tackle the course solo or in pairs, in four or six hour rides. The deal is: it’s a bike ride though the bush, but you have to find your way with a map and compass, dodging mine shafts and rogue wombats along the way. Entry fees are $42 for senior riders and $25 for under 17s (6 hour ride) (this includes a awesome reusable highly detailed colour waterproof map, spot prizes and CAKE at the end… ahh it’s all worth it now)! Peace, love and algebraIt’s Dharma day!DAYLESFORD is home to Australia’s first Buddhist school, an independently run, not for profit primary school with teachings and philosophies stemming from Buddhist ideology. The Dharma School (11 Perrins Street, Daylesford) practices inclusiveness, so offers low fees for families. To help the school raise much needed funds they are hosting Dharma Day (Sunday, October 21), at Daylesford Town Hall (Vincent Street). You don’t need to be part of the school to enjoy the days’ activities, it’s a day for everyone to celebrate our amazing community spirit and cultural diversity. The day is run in two parts… (and being Buddhist it’s all about kindness and karma baby)… The morning session (11am ‘til 12:30pm) is a super excellent kiddie sesh with loads of great kids’ activities and fun. Entry is by gold coin donation and all proceeds go to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. (ASRC) The School is asking everyone to donate to the ASRC, bring along some non-perishable food, or other necessities (check the full list of required items on their website). The items will be blessed, and given to the Centre with much love and compassion from us all. The afternoon is time for the adults to sharpen their wits (and pencils), for the Quiz. (To be held 2pm ‘til 5pm). Tickets are $25 per person - (or book a table of ten and get one ticket free.) Geoffrey Williams and the Daylesford Swing Band will be performing live, afternoon tea will be provided by Ego’s Catering (hello… yum), and there’ll be amazing live and silent auctions, prizes and raffles all day. The major prize in the silent auction is a cracker. The winner will have their backyard transformed by a local landscaping legend while they are whisked away for lunch and massages for two. (Forget the blitz… this is Backyard Bliss). Whilst the parents are slogging it out in the quiz the littlies will be well looked after with fully supervised child care available on the day, with lots of fun and afternoon tea for them too) (and this means extra think time (and extra afternoon tea) for the adults!) Tix for the Dharma Day Quiz are available from the school website: dharmaschool.com.au or directly from the school. Call Sarah Hine for more info: 5348 7993.

Head to Trenthamin pursuit of trivia

Get your Muckle onat MucklefestJUST outside Castlemaine is a town with possibly the best name on the Victorian map. Muckleford. And each year Muckleford puts on Mucklefest. (Possibly the best name any festival has ever been given). Mucklefest is a celebration of all things Vintage. Specifically, historic vehicles and machinery. Love an old engine? Love a vintage tractor pull? Love a bit of noisy old mechanical stuff with pistons pumping and smoke blowing? Well, Mucklefest is your fest. It’s one big day of steam trains, vintage cars, heritage horses, rides and family friendly entertainment. The event will be held at the historic Muckleford Train Station (Leechs Road) in the heart of the Central Victorian Goldfields. Sunday, October 28, from 10am ‘til 4pm. Entry is $5, kids under 12 free. For more info telephone: 5470 6658 or go to: vgr.com.au.

NOTHING brings out the competitive nature of us human types more-so than a School Trivia Night. It’s when fearsome fathers and menacing mums go head to head in brutal battle to decide which Richard Marx song went to number 1 for six weeks in Australia in 1989. (C’mon, you have to remember – it was bigger than his hair)… Saturday, October 27, it’s Trentham Primary’s turn. The proceeds of the night will go towards their IT Program. There’ll be silent actions, games, quizzes and door prizes, loads of fun, and if you’re lucky, no questions about Richard Marx.Book a table (and a babysitter) now. The event will be held at the Mechanic’s Hall, (High Street), from 6:30pm. (BYO supper and drinks). Tickets are $15 per person. ($10 conc.) If you go down to Woodendtoday, you’re sure of a big surprise...

A guiding lighton a dark starry night...ONE OF the most anticipated events at the annual Swiss and Italian Festa is the beautiful Lantern Parade. The Festa concludes each year with a fireworks display held at the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve. (Sunday, November 4). Before the fireworks crack into the night sky, local families wander down the path, through the bush, to the reserve carrying illuminated hand made lanterns to guide the way.Local school kids will be attending workshops this month, to create their own special lanterns to carry during the parade. On Tuesday, October 30, lantern workshops will be held at Hepburn Primary School Hall: (9.30 ‘til 10.30am) Dharma School Hall: (11.30am ‘til 12.30pm) and St Michael’s Catholic School Hall: (2 ‘til 3pm). IT MAKES sense that Woodend (being at the end of the woods) is the perfect place for bears to live… The bears of Woodend are out of their PJs after winter hibernation, and are venturing out of the woods to make an appearance at The Seventh Annual Woodend Teddy Bear Show. (Sunday, October 28). Bear makers from Australia and abroad will be competing and displaying their beautiful hand crafted bears. It’s a datewith a country back drop

Portraits ofour beautiful backyardDROP a pin at the Hepburn Springs Post Office and travel to anywhere within a 25 kilometre radius, and you’re going to see some serious countryside gorgeousness. From the golden rocky terrain of Yandoit to the mossy green undergrowth of nearby state forests, volcanic vistas and postcard villages, our corner of the earth is stunningly diverse, and well, just a little bit gorgeous. The Swiss and Italian Festa has invited artists to submit their interpretation of our local landscape. See these works at the sixteenth annual Dulux Landscape Art Prize and Exhibition, to be held at the Savoia Hotel (69 Main Road, Hepburn Springs). The winning entry will win $1000, with $500 for second and $250 for third. The exhibition launch is Tuesday, October 30, 7pm (continuing 11:30am – 5:30pm Wednesday, October 31, ‘til Sunday, November 4.) Entry is free. More info: swissitalianfesta.com.

THE Kyneton District Racing Club (now known as the Kyneton & Hanging Rock Racing Club) is the oldest registered Country Victorian Racing Club, first formed in 1852, with the first race meet conducted at the NMIT Kyneton Park in 1853 with the first official running of the Kyneton Cup taking place 20 years later in 1873. The NMIT Kyneton Cup still forms an important part of Melbourne Cup week as it is held on the first Wednesday in November each year on the banks of the Campaspe River, under 100 year old Elms, it’s a full day of entertainment for the entire family with live music, DJ, roving entertainment, fashions on the field, boutique food stalls, master of ceremonies, punters club, pamper tent, prize draws. We even hear there are excellent horses racing!! And all without having to fight for a park in the city! Save the date - Wednesday, November 7. More info visit: kyneton.countryracing.com.au.

and Mum & NanHarry & Me

HARRY and Me is a sweet little shop with a cute little story. This new Daylesford boutique (opened mid-September) is the brainchild of Amanda Fontanella, and her brainy-child Sarah Storer (still with us?)… and is named after Sarah’s son Harry. (aww). That’s three generations represented up the steps and behind the freshly painted doors at 57D Vincent Street. If you think Sarah and Amanda look a bit familiar, you’re not mistaken, Sarah and her hubby run Larder two doors up at number 57A, and Amanda tends the vines at Fontanella Winery with husband John at Glenlyon. Amanda had always dreamed of running a store, so when the perfect space became available two doors down from her daughter’s café, (and that awesome coffee machine) well… it was too good to be true. This super-amazing Mum and Daughter team pulled off the feat of the year by renovating this tired old shop space from floor to ceiling (and what a perdy pressed iron ceiling it is) …in four short (little-bit-backbreaking) days. FOUR DAYS!And they are not only still speaking to each other, the store is a haven of peace and calm and heavenly handmade loveliness for kids to age three, and mamas with style, (sure dad, you get a bit of a look in too). Most of the clothing and accessories are handmade in Australia, with some exclusive pieces coming from independent designers (a few are mums themselves, who whip up their unique pieces from home). They also stock elk clothing, shoes and accessories (drool), artisan paper products, divine candles from Kobo and loads of things you just want to touch (guilty of that last bit). Grab a coffee (two doors up) and pop in, browse, and say hi to Harry and Me. Open 10am ‘til 5pm, seven days a week during school holidays (closed Wednesdays other times). More info call: 5348 7908.

in every jarA little bit of magic

so much to loveBeards, bands and beer

JUST down the road from Woodend is a magical place called the Black Forest (…we think ‘cherry-cake’ every time we see the sign…) and tucked away deep in the trees is Black Forest Farm, a property bursting with beautiful berries and fruit. In 2003 Michael Bikicki waved his magic wand (um, wooden spoon…) and created a delectable strawberry jam that sold out faster than you can say abracadabra! This magic jam was the start of something big. Black Forest Farm has since won oodles of fans and awards for their glorious gourmet jams, preserves, chutneys and relishes. This month Michael has been invited to host a Masterchef Masterclass. The contestants will be shaking in their boots trying to recreate one of his jars of amazingness! You don’t have to sweat it though… if you’d like a jar (or five), go direct to the source! The farm is open 7 days at 671 Black Forest Drive, Macedon. More info: blackforestfarm.com.au or call: 0450 643 480.

IN MARCH this year a passionate bunch of Kyneton locals joined forces to create the inaugural Kyneton Music Festival. Their mission was to draw the wealth of musical talent out of the hills and onto the stage. And boy did the talent flow from them-thar hills. So impressed were the organisers, that they’re planning a 2nd Kyneton Music Fest in March 2013, however, they want to hear from aspiring musos now! If you’re in a band, a solo artist a choir, a DJ, singer, or know your way around an instrument get cracking. (Applications close Wednesday, October 31).The music fest will also host BeardFest 2013 (yes, it is what you think it is). If you’ve ever wanted to see if you can grow your own, throw away the razor, you’ve got five months to work on it. Get all the band and beard info: at kynetonmusicfestival.com.au

The Argusa rare breed indeed

All aboardthe Bubbly ExpressTHE VOLUNTEERS at Daylesford Spa Country Railway are completely mad about trains. They are forever restoring carriages, rebuilding tracks, overhauling engines, stations and signals, on a purely voluntary basis just so that us peeps can have a joyride. Aww thanks guys! Once a month they roll out the heritage Silver Streak, a restored diesel rail car, and chug off into the Wombat State Forest, laden with local wines, delicious appetisers and live music. It’s the perfect entrée to a night out in Daylesford. The next Premium Food and Wine Train will depart Daylesford Station (14 Raglan Street), Saturday, October 6, at 5:30pm, returning at 7pm. As the 6th is the last evening of daylight savings, it’ll be a gorgeous dusk journey into the forest. Keep an eye out for wombats (or bunyips, depending on how many chardys you’ve had). Tickets are $35 all inclusive. Bookings essential. Call 0421 780 100. More info at: dscr.com.au

THE Argus restaurant, located in the original 1930’s Art Deco dining room at Peppers Mineral Springs Retreat (124 Main Road, Hepburn Springs) is serving up rare breed Hampshire Downs lamb and Scottish Highland beef from the owners nearby farm, Birch Estate. These rare breed meats are being plated up with the freshest of produce from The Argus Kitchen Garden (couldn’t get more local!) Dishes from the Argus are being cleverly created and presented by Executive Chef, David Willcocks, who has recently returned to Victoria following an extended jaunt in a couple of five star and Michelin starred restaurants abroad (nonetheless!). The entire Art Deco building recently underwent a transformation at the hands of fabulous interior designer, Stuart Rattle. Exquisite surroundings to match the rarest of breeds. Open seven days for lunch and from Wednesday to Sunday for dinner. More info: theargusdiningroom.com.au.

furry and feathered friendsA fundraiser for our

HEPBURN Wildlife Shelter open their doors to hundreds of injured birds and animals each year. Their tireless efforts to save, heal and return animals to the bush is extraordinary. All the more that they do it on an entirely voluntary basis, from their home just outside of Daylesford. HWS is a self-funded registered charity completely reliant on donations. (Look… we’re just going to say it… Jon and Gayle from the shelter are local heroes). On Wednesday, October 31, Christine from 65 Main Guesthouse, (yes, at 65 Main Road, Hepburn Springs) is opening her guesthouse to host the second annual Village Family Soiree. Drink bubbles and listen to the bubbles (the charming ‘Champagne Serenades’ will be performing the evening’s live entertainment), catch up with friends, eat, drink and celebrate in the name of community spirit on a night of fundraising and fun. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the Hepburn Wildlife Shelter, so you can have a sparkling night out with friends knowing that you’re supporting the wonderful work at the shelter, and helping to care for our precious bushland friends. Last year’s Soiree raised $3000 for the local CFA. This year’s event promises to be just as rewarding. The Village Family Soiree will be held 6:30 ‘til 10:30pm. Tickets are $35 (advance bookings) or $45 (cash only) in the night at the door. To book email [email protected] and request the amount of tickets you require. For more information phone: 5348 1826 or 0438 379 340, or visit: 65main.com.
