Activities

Emergency relief in Afghanistan Medical mobile term in Iraq Well construction in Sierra Leone

Seed distribution in Afghanistan Childcare in Mongolia Coffee industry assistance in East Timor

PWJ activities are roughly two-fold: one is emergency humanitarian relief, aiming to secure the safety of lives and to provide the basic necessities. The other is assistance for restoration and development of ravaged areas, Aiming at retrieval of self-sustaining livelihood.

Structure of Japan Platform

Japan Platform is a system to provide emergency relief in natural disasters and refugee situations more effectively and quickly. This will be realized through an equal partnership of NGOs, business and government, with each constituent making full use of its resources and characteristics.

■ Development of Emergency shelter

■Suffering of first 10days

It takes a long time to getting family tent.

Because transportation of a large number family tent isn’t easy in confect area.

■Stand by arrangement

Arrangement living condition for the Psychological and physical stressed

people is foremost task → Emergency Response Unit

Point of Emergency shelter

●Easy Transporting ●Quick set-up●durability●Large capacity

■ Developing phase

Target method-- Reinforced masonry work

Earthquake safer design for the people

Objectives,

*Provide appropriate earthquake-resistant structure techniques for vernacular houses to the people of Bam

*Disseminate earthquake-safer designs to the people in Bam

Quality of construction

For the earthquake safety, not only the building materials should be good quality but also the design and detailing as well as quality of construction should be good.

■ We propose 3 methods

1. Reinforced masonry work, using ordinary brick.

2. Stabilized Rammed earth structure

3. Stabilized compressed earth bricks

■ 2. Stabilized Rammed earth structure

About Rammed Earth ConstructionRammed Earth Construction has evolved from techniques used since ancient times(origin: south Iran) and the growing market led demand for environmentally sustainable development, healthier lifestyles and healthier buildings has led to an Australian and worldwide re-kindling of interest in rammed earth architecture. The modern interpretation allows locally sourced soils and aggregates to be blended on site with special bonding additives.

Mix design

■ Mix design for rammed earth and compressed brick

Density of soil x volume of soil + density of sand x volume of sand + Wt of cement

-Soil: 2 wheelbarrow

- Sand: 1 wheelbarrow

-Cement 2 bucket

-Water: 2,5 bucket

200 x 2 x 1.35 + 200 x 1 x 1.5 + 12.5 x 2 x 3 + 12.5 x 2.5 x 1

Water% = = 3%

Cement% =Wt of cement

Cement% = = 8%12.5 x 2 x 3

200 x 2 x 1.35 + 200 x 1 x 1.5 + 12.5 x 2 x 3

12.5 x 2.5 x 1

Ratio

-Sand: 75%
