Stevedoring

Seawaves, a group company of Caravel, handled Container Stevedoring for Bengal Tiger Line vessels operating between Chennai and Singapore. While doing container stevedoring at Chennai Port prior to privatization of the container terminal, we had handled 25 containers per hour on BTL vessels.

Prior to privatization of the container terminal where Berth Reservation Scheme was operational, we take credit for being in charge of yard management for Bengal Tiger Line.

Seawaves was awarded as the best stevedore for handling highest containers per shift at Chennai Port. Seawaves was awarded for the best stack management service at Chennai Port. Seawaves Shipping has received the best Container Stevedores Award for handling containers to the tune of 2.25 lakh teus per annum. We have handled 100,000 MT of Gypsum, 35,000 MT of coal as well as rice at the Chennai Port while giving the highest productivity in terms of load and discharge rates in Metric Tonne up to 5000 tonne per working day.

Seawaves also stevedores bulk cargo, specializing in handling coal and gypsum vessels.

Liquid Cargo – ISO Tanks & Flexi Tanks

We are one of the India's leading freight forwarders and non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs). We maintain that position; because of the way we do things.

Flexi Tanks

Flexi Tank is special equipment for transportation of Bulk non- hazardous liquid. It is a special soft tight tank which is produced from high quality plastic material, with a capacity from 14 up to 24 thousand liter and when empty, it occupies less than a cubic meter. It is installed in a 20’ dry container for use. At installation, the flexi tank is laid in the 20’ ft container, and the cargo is being filled in to the flexi tank through the inlet value and it bulges as it is filled with the liquid.

Flexi tank is a break through in Bulk Liquid transport and extremely cost effective in terms of time, money and man power and superior to the conventional methods of bulk liquid transport. In a flexi tank unit; we can accommodate 24,000 liters when compared to transportation in drums can accommodate 40% more volume. It is not only time saving but also cost saving by 40% while loading and discharge; when compared to Loading/Unloading Drums. There is negligible

residue (0.1%) when compared to drums (1%) and similarly loss to the cargo while loading/unloading is negligible when compared to that of Drums/IBC’s.

We provide flexi tanks with leak proof tank mouth which made of unique technique & patented for its design. Thus we ensure that our Flexi tanks are safer for transport of liquid. Certainly; this is a difference to the others available in the market.

Over the years we have moved shipments by ocean from single machines to the chartering of large ships. Through our strong links with like-minded partners located throughout the globe we are able to get expert local transport and customs knowledge, which others would find difficult to get.

Exclusive Services to Iraq

We offer services exclusively to Iraqi port - Umm Qasr; and to its inland destinations via Dubai. We move the containers from port of loading to Iraqi ports in the shortest time possible. Persons, who are well experienced with Iraq and the authorities there, manage our transporting company, which ensures that cargo is delivered to the consignee anywhere in Iraq safely. Inspection and Transshipment facilities are also offered to our clients at Dubai.

DOMESTIC LOGISTICS

“Caravel offers multimodal logistics thus optimizing the cost of logistics for the Indian customers who are primarily using road. We combine rail & sea with peripheral deliveries & pick up done by road in offering multimodal transport. The prices of the multimodal combination using rail & sea can reduce the cost of transportation of goods from north to south india & vice versa by 40 – 50 % at comparable transit times.

The coastal service will be calling Mundra – Kochi – Tuticorin – Mundra with fixed day frequency.

Caravel has wide range of container offering - refrigerated containers to carry temperature controlled cargo like dairy products, fruits & vegetables, medicines,

chemicals, tank containers - to carry liquid cargo, open top containers to carry goods which need to loaded from the top, flat rack containers – for bulky engineering products. All these goods from, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat etc. are primarily carried by trailers & trucks, which costs very high due to the involvement of special trucks & reposition cost of the special trucks. Apart from this, there is a requirement of road width in the case of bulky cargo. Carriage of these cargos by ship can make the transit faster & easier. Temperature controlled cargo can be carried from door to port by power pack to the container on the trailers then power at port & ship to ensure that the cargo does not deteriorate. This kind of power arrangement is more reliable. The shippers for these cargoes are yet to use the multimodal transport in a large way; we intend to have these products moving in multimodal ways.

Cars, motorcycles, autos, tractors, can be loaded in containers & moved to the port by rail, then by sea to the south Indian location for delivery & vice versa. In this way, peripheral pick or delivery alone will be done by road. This makes the transport safer. Currently car carriers are of very high bodies to accommodate more cars for economical carriage. This is less stable making the movement more cumbersome due to low speed, height making it dangerous & not complying the road rule.

Multimodal transport will reduce the pressure on the road by reducing pollution & cost for the shippers, lesser congestion on the roads as well. The transit time from origin to destination can be comparable to road as we are intending to join rail & sea primarily as they are the cheaper mode of transport where ship transport being the cheapest of the 3 surface/sea mode.

Refrigerated - Container Service

High potential and ever increasing demand for specialised equipments in the shipping services was realised & Caravel Lines has augmented the inventory with special reefer equipments.

 Reefers, or Refrigerated containers facilitate the movement of cargo that requires a strict temperature controlled environment. The Reefer containers are

usually moved from the terminal to the factories; for stuffing on special trailers, on which a "clip on" generator is attached to supply power to the Reefer units. On return they are stacked at a nominated location with special facilities for plugging in the containers to uninterrupted power sources, and regular temperature monitoring.

Refrigerated containers help our customers to transport mainly perishables and high value cargoes which are temperature sensitive and need protection from climatic conditions prevailing viz heat, cold, and ventilation.  This helps the trader to overcome the barrier of distance while still maintaining the same freshness of the cargo involved. We provide specialised reefer service to transport cargoes from Indian ports to other Asian Ports and vice versa.
