About Technology Association of Georgia

TAG is dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of the state's technology industry and

provides leadership in driving initiatives in the areas of policy, capital, education and business development. TAG

also brings the technology community together through events, initiative programs and networking opportunities.

Mission Statement: Strengthen Georgia’s future workforce by uniting Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) resources with leading education initiatives while emphasizing science, technology, engineering

and mathematics (STEM).  Background:

Formerly The TAG Foundation, The TAG Education Collaborative is a 501c3 non-profit organization which was formed by the Technology Association of Georgia in 1999. In 2009, the organization’s name was changed to The TAG Education

Collaborative to facilitate a rebranding that would enable it to be a catalyst for Georgia’s K-12 education system to become a

leaders and innovator for STEM related education.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategy- help set the strategic course and play a key role in the development and execution of the plan

Access- Open doors to leverage physical, social, intellectual, and political capital

Resource- Provide support in the procurement of human capital and financial resources

Governance- Oversight accountability to assure TAG fulfills its mission

Operational Expectations

Serve on at least one standing or ad hoc committee

Be actively involved by attending four board meetings and other special events as appropriate

Commit a contribution of $5,000 (personal, company or affiliated contacts)

• Personal contribution not required but encouraged

Be responsive to helping the staff and Board find answers to challenges and opportunities

Standing Committees

• Executive Committee• Reviews general matters of the Association and is authorized to make decisions on most matters, under the

auspices of the Board.

• Board Development Committee• Assesses the current make-up of the board• Takes the lead in recruiting and securing Board members necessary to achieve goals• Evaluate individual and collective BOD performance and make recommendations accordingly

• Compensation Committee• Evaluates the performance of CEO• Reviews and improves incentive plan for CEO• Reviews staff incentive plans, payouts, and performance plans with CEO

• Strategic Direction Committee• Reviews the strategic plan and strategic shifts and recommends to the Board• Monitors progress related to the strategic plan and the operating plan• Assures the financial and resource goals align with the plan

• Finance Committee• Reviews and recommends annual budget to the Board• Monitors all financial matters of the organization through regular reports and meetings• Approves the annual compilation vendor and monitors the audit process and reports results to the Board

Task Forces (part one)

Business Launch Competition •Provides general support to assure the successful conclusion of the annual business launch competition•Tasks include, but are not limited to: helping to find mentors and judges; securing companies to provide the “suite of services;” establishing the annual criteria for the event including the scope and range of the industries that would be eligible for the competition.

CEO Dinner•Selects Dinner Hosts and Evaluates each Dinner•Hosts quarterly CEO dinner for technology leaders at their home or other special venue

Connecting Georgia Companies• Initiates program to foster awareness and promote business between small tech companies and large

companies• Evaluates, monitors and recommends adjustments to program if and as necessary

Georgia Technology Summit•Primary responsibility for conducting successful Summit• Tasks include but are not limited to: securing speakers, securing sponsors, setting the program theme, selling table sponsors, and keeping the Board appraised

Government Relations•Assist the Director of Government Relations in tasks related to TAG’s legislative Agenda•Lead TAG’s policy platform planning

State of the Industry Report• Layman assist staff in defining TAG’s information repository program• Help find partners who can efficiently provide content• Help establish measures to weigh the success of the program, and assure that necessary adjustments are made in a timely fashion

Excalibur Awards• Assist in the development of the event agenda and program theme•Helps to secure speakers and sponsors•Participates in event evaluation

TAGit Tournament Challenge• Puts on a golf fundraising event that attracts high level technology/community leaders• Primary role is to sell foursomes and sponsors and to assist in establishing protocols

Professional Development •Assists staff in developing strategies to efficiently and effectively deliver professional development services to employees within TAG member and non- member companies.•Assist staff in opening doors to corporate prospects•Recommends new program offerings based on community needs•Willingness to consider beta testing TAG programs

Statewide Strategies •Assists in developing master plan for TAG statewide emphasis•Help identify pockets of technology industry activity throughout the state•Help identify and leverage online capabilities for outreach (e.g. social media, online webinars, etc)•Help determine how to deliver quality services throughout the state with limited bandwidth

CEO - to - CEO• Host 2-3 annual CEO Dinners to connect technology CEOs and encourage networking and knowledge exchange.• Create 3 to 5 Peer to Peer Technology CEO groups for the purpose of providing the leadership an opportunity to discuss issues and opportunities in a confidential setting• Deliver a high-end CEO retreat, in partnership with CED and possibly the Tampa Bay Technology Council. Outcome will be to provide CEOs with a chance to be away from the day to day, while hearing from industry leaders about issues of importance, and building deeper relationships with fellow leaders. Goal is to have at least 10 CEOs attend from each partnering area• Develop a CEO to CEO set of longer term goals by Q3 2010

Leveraging On-Line Communities•Help research marketing trends to determine which software applications best meet our marketing needs•Review recommended enhancements to improve TAG use of technology internally•Help evaluate social media applications and determine the most effective way to link applications with the existing TAG Community

Premier Program•Identify prospective Premier companies and utilize BOD to secure connections •Encourage participation, at all levels of connection, in promoting  Premier Membership on Sales calls/meetings•Generate interest in Premier Program by continually developing the program to deliver utmost value to its members
