BUDUDA LAND SLIDE INMBALE DISTRICT, EASTERN

UGANDA The incident happened in Mabono villagealong one of the Mount Elgon ranges. MtElgon can be seen behind the first tworanges in next picture. About 3000 peopleare directly affected by the incidence. Themain centre consisted of local shops and aHealth Centre that was totally wiped out

One Health centre withstaff and patients perished

except a nurse, UAOG church within the

centre was totallydestroyed with threemembers and one childconfirmed dead

An estimate of about 300-

500 people within thecentre feared covered bythe land slide

About 85 bodies only arerecovered

Five days later as youpersist walking you still

get bodies piping from thesoil

Everyone still wonders whatcould have happened to causeall these. Some families are allperished and it is still difficultto ascertain how many werereally there. Several feet down,the barren land now looks as ifsome caterpillar just worked on

the flat land.

People are still coming herehour after the hour searchingfor the truth. But the answer isstill a mystery as many peoplewont be recovered any more.

The only rescuers on the groundWith such a huge soil, these soldiers are still using handsand hand hoes to excavate the bodies. No equipment canbe taken up there due to lack of roads and landing sites

Just after parking the car, youwill have to climb hills uponhills to reach the site. No othermeans can reach there exceptby foot and you can see here.And it takes 1-2 hours to reachdepending on your experienceon climbing the mountains. It is

still raining up there and everypart of the road is slippery.Here Pastor Elijah of MbaleVictory church encourages alady to keep on.
