Western Region Athletics

In rain soaked and windy conditions, on Friday 2nd September, Joel Golding, Cameron Geale, Ashton Kendall, Nicolas Martin, Ryder Smith, Ella Waters, Azaya Norris, Reagan Golding, Billy Limbrick, Samuel Chamen, Emilio Dutton, Ruby Hall and Aden Beetson represented our school at the Western Region athletics carnival. The junior boys and seniors boys relay both made it to the finals but unfortunately did not place. However, Joel Golding came third in the discus and has gained entry into the state carnival. Well done to all our athletes, who despite the conditions they competed with enthusiasm.

Marcus Geale Sydney Grammar visit

Last week students from Sydney Grammar Preparatory school visited Lake Cargelligo. They spent time with our Year 4 students and students from Saint Francis Xavier School. Whilst they were here they visited the ochre pits, learnt some Wiradjuri language, learnt a creation dance, created some bush poetry and painted using the ochre from the ochre pits. The finale was a concert where the three schools collaborated and performed the acts they had been practising during the visit and leading up to the visit. The concert was a huge success and we would like to thank all the parents and the community who attended the night. There are plans to visit Sydney Grammar next year at their school in Edgecliff. We hope this is the beginning of a long term partnership with this school.

Ag Vision Careers On Wednesday the 7th September Eliza Green, Natalie Glover and Miss Ireland travelled to Junee to participate in Ag Vision – an agiculture careers day. Each student had to select 6 workshops that they would be interested in attending prior to the day. Students had the opportunity to select from upwards of 50 career workshops in varying specialties, including Agronomists, shearers, wool technicians, Livestock sales, just to name a few. Students spent about 40 minutes listening to and asking questions of professionals in specific careers. Both students found the workshops beneficial and mentioned they would like to attend again next year and have a look at different careers to the ones they experienced this year. Tara Jane Ireland China excursion On Saturday morning we held a sausage sizzle at the front of Fisho’s Hotbake. We would like to thank everyone that came down and helped support us, as we are off to China in just over a week’s time. We would like to say a special thank you to Fisho’s Hotbake, Shane’s Butchery and Smith’s Foodworks for all the donations. Lainie Johnson and Meg Stenhouse Show Team News On Friday 9th September, Miss Ireland took 7 students to Forbes Show to participate in Junior Judging competitions. These included Grain Judging (Wheat, Barley, Canola), Fruit and Vegetable Judging (Apples, Pears, Tomatoes), Fleece Judging, Meat Sheep Judging and Merino Sheep Judging. The students had only competed in this one other time at the Merino Wether Challenge in Dubbo, so this was again a daunting task for them.

The students were in a much more relaxed atmosphere where they got to judge each section for as long as they wanted and they could ask the overjudge questions at any time. At the conclusion of all the students judging each section, a top 12 was selected to orally present their judging selections. All students orally presented in the Fruit and Vegetable and Grain Sections. Tegan Richardson was selected to orally present in the fleece judging. Ebony Turner and Natalie Glover were selected to speak in the Merino Sheep judging and Eliza Green and Mandy Stenhouse were selected to speak in the Meat Sheep Judging. All students presented well and were congratulated on their effort by the overjudges. After all the students had completed their oral presentations, the overjudge went on to explain why they selected the order they selected and presented ribbons and prizemoney to the top 3 students. Congratulations to Meg Preston who received 3rd for Grain Judging, Natalie Glover who received 2nd for Merino Sheep Judging, Mandy Stenhouse who received 3rd in Meat Sheep Judging and Eliza Green who received 1st in the Meat Sheep Judging.
