This year, Kopenhagen Fur breaks with a long tradition, namely that the season starts in December. This season, sales start in January, as we have moved the auction from December to January recognizing that the December auction was getting relatively smaller year after year. The reasons for this are that the pelting capacity of the farms and sorting capacity of Kopenhagen Fur are insufficient to ensure a large and wide offering of mink skins especially. And it is certainly not a good start to a new season if the offering does not have a size in width and depth to ensure that we get the real world market price of mink skins from the start. Therefore, we decided to move the auction from December to early January. The three additional weeks mean that we can offer more than three million skins at the January auction, whereas the offering of the February auction will be slightly smaller than this year. In the new season, our storage facilities in China will be extended, which means that we can offer affordable and efficient transportation of skins into China and, equally important, a quick and professional customs clearance. In Glostrup, we will celebrate the new season by inaugurating our new storage and sorting facilities. We expect to receive 27 million mink skins next year and are simply running out of space. We will double the storage capacity so that we can store more than ten million mink skins in our cold storage. The sorting area will be expanded by 4,000 m2. Due to the significant number of skins, we have

increased our staff with approximately 55 new colleagues. They are currently in intensive training so that they can be part of the production from the beginning of the season. On the production side, our new plant for measuring the length of the skin and the length of hair is now running so satisfactorily that both functions will be put into production from the start of the season. It will provide a more precise measuring of hair length in our sorting. We have also used the summer and quite a few months before that to modernize our packaging plant, so in the new season we will compress the skins in cardboard boxes by putting the skins in airtight packaging. The skins will then be suitable for more permanent storage and

transport will be cheaper for the benefit of our buyers. Finally, again this year, the quality of our skins will get a further boost. The Danish fur farmers had a good year with a satisfactory breeding result and with a lower disease pressure. The Danish fur farmers are the only livestock producers in Denmark with decreasing consumption of antibiotics. Good growth conditions combined with selective breeding and good management are key to producing the world’s best mink collection. We look forward to starting the new season. Kopenhagen Fur will soon be turning 70, but we still feel young and full of life.

The relatively small December auction has been abandoned for a January auction with a larger and better collection. According to CEO Torben Nielsen, such a change will be a win-win situation for the farmers, the auction house and the customers.

Throughout the years, the December auction at Kopenhagen Fur has been a topic of much debate. Many of Kopenhagen Fur’s customers have argued that the collection in December was too small and that could result in possibly misleading average prices. - When it comes to moving the December auction and establishing a January auction, the pros outweigh the cons. Throughout the last couple of seasons we reached a situation where the collection struggled on both size and quality because it was not comparable with the rest of our auctions. This meant that the December auction was not representative for the world market price in mink, resulting in increased expectations and pressure on the February auction, says Torben Nielsen. He states that the rescheduling of the

December auction to January will give better working conditions for the farmers and this will ultimately result in a better collection for the buyers. - We have previously seen how the pressure to meet the delivery date for the December auction has made some of the farmers start pelting at a stage when the animals were not ripe. This had affected the overall quality of the collection and has put our sorting resources to the test. Now both farmers and sorters have time on their side, Torben Nielsen explains.

Positive rePorts from the entire vaLue ChainAccording to Brian Tufvesson, Head of Customer Department, the prospect of a larger and broader January auction has resulted in nothing but positive reactions from Kopenhagen Fur’s customers.

Traditionally, the December auction has been kind of a preparation for various fairs across the globe for many customers, but the larger offering in September has changed the terms of the business. - I have talked to many of our trusted customers and they have all been very positive about our reschedule. Both manufacturers and retailers have previously been affected by our December auctions because of the chance of an early-season price regulation, which can have damaging effects on their businesses. Now the market as a whole will have a more stable selling season which gives our customers a chance to focus their energy on the core business, which is the sale of skins. The January auction will be held from 8 to 11 January.

In the new 2015 sales season, many believe that the Chinese market will play an increasingly important role when it comes to buying skins. Many buyers, that have previously purchased skins in China, are now interested in Kopenhagen Furs assortment of skins due to the new, lower market price. Liaoning Huamei’er Import and Export Trading Co., Ltd. is a service provider specializing in importing raw materials for the mink skin processing in Tong er Pu. The company management prides itself on focusing on financial resources and talent development among the staff. The company also strives to deliver quality service and to provide high quality mink skins products to customers. Based on these ideas, Liaoning Huamei’er Import and Export Trading Co., Ltd. is interested in engaging in a long-term cooperation with Kopenhagen Fur. - I have great interest in attending the auctions at Kopenhagen Fur. I have been involved in the fur trade for nearly 10 years, mainly dealing with the processing, manufacturing and selling of fox , raccoon

and mink products. In recent years, I have mainly been engaged in selling fur garments, especially those featuring cross mink, silver blue fox and white fox, says Mr Min Fujiu. - I’m interested in attending an auction in Denmark, because as a senior figure in the fur trade, I’ve realized that the traditional logistic pattern has been out-dated and will soon be eliminated from the market. The domestic Chinese fur trade is now entering a new critical stage, which calls for reforms and renovation to reduce costs and improve quality from the supply source while presenting something new. The mink skins offered at Kopenhagen Fur’s auctions are of good quality and cost-effective. I believe that these can better meet the requirements, he says.

Jiayi Fur Fashion Co., Ltd. specializes in importing and processing raw fur, including mink and fox skins for Hebei Daying (International) Fur Fashion Industrial Co., Ltd. The company, located in Zaoqiang County in the Hebei Province, has expressed an interest in attending an auction in Denmark due to lower market prices that has given the company room to explore different markets. - I am very interested in attending the auction at Kopenhagen Fur, says Mr Xu Zhiyu. He has been involved in the fur trade for nearly 20 years, mainly dealing with the processing, manufacturing and direct selling

of mink, fox, raccoon and muskrat skins. - In recent years, I have mainly been engaged in selling fur garments, especially those featuring black fox, mink in light colours, silver blue fox and white fox skins. - Based on my years in the trade, I’ve realized that the traditional fur design and development in China will lag behind the market-oriented economy. The Chinese fur trade has now entered a stage that calls for efforts in research and innovation in order to remain competitive. I believe that the mink skins offered at the auction in Denmark are more able to fulfil these requirements, he says.

The company www.furchina.com.cn is located in the Fur City of Yuyao in Ningbo, one of the first places in China where fur garments were manufactured. This historical perspective is an interesting contrast to Mr Xie Yao s modern internet-based company. - I have been in the fur trade for a little over two years, says Mr Xie Yao and adds:- I usually buy sable and mink skins that have soft, solid leather sides and rich, glossy fur sides. I prefer marten fur coats, because they are so elegant and gorgeous and I consider them among the best of the fur garments. - I am interested in taking part in the auction because it can provide a direct access to the market and an instant picture

of the market situation. Also, there are social as well as business aspects to consider. Most of those present at the auction are professionals within the fur trade, which gives me opportunities to find business partners or make friends, he says. - My interest is also aroused due to the low prices and high-quality skins from Denmark. I consider these new prices for high-quality skins reasonable and I also believe that there is a growing need for fur garments here in China. So the combination of these elements will make the skins very much in demand. So in order to adapt to the changes in the market with a new business model that can contribute to this trade, I intend to come to the auctions in Denmark, he says.

Mr Sun Buhu s company is situated in Dongguan City, in the Guangdong Province. Since the establishment of the company brand ‘Masabeca’ in 2000, he has focused on high-end products. Over the past 10 years, the company has established 20 outlet stores all over China, producing and selling approx. 20,000 fur coats annually.

-I’ve been involved in the fur trade for 10 years. As the domestic need for high quality raw mink skins is increasing and the quality of Chinese mink skins cannot meet the needs of the domestic market in China, I switched to skins produced in Europe, which is why I would like to attend an auction there, he says.

Beijing Naxin trading Co. Ltd. has been in the fur business since 1992, always with a main focus on mink skins. The company’s own brands are Naxin and Bilandi. Besides this they also work with original design manufacturing. The raw materials used by Naxin are mainly imported from Finland, Denmark, the US and Canada. The skins preferred for the Naxin brand are characterized by diversity in colours and silky top hair. The company also prefers to work with natural colours to reflect the

nature of its own design concepts. - Since I entered the fur trade in 1995, I’ve mainly purchased some mutation skins from Kopenhagen Fur, but I have never personally attended an auction. I am, however, interested in attending now, because the skins offered at the auctions in Denmark are of good price and quality combination now. A large assortment in quality and colours offer a wider range of choice. In addition, I like the management style of the auction – it is transparent and fair, says Mr Li Liang.

As a traditional enterprise in Yuyao, Shengfanya Fur is engaged in many aspects of the fur trade, like research and development, design of mink skin garments, OEM manufacturing, operating outlet stores, as well as the domestic trade of the raw mink skins. The company has nearly 100 employees and 6 outlet stores. It produces and sells approx. 5,000 fur coats annually. - In the eyes of Shengfanya Fur, China’s fur trade has been restructuring since 2013,

which means that the days of high profits for enterprises in this sector will come to an end. Shengfanya Fur is no longer mainly an OEM manufacturing firm, but is devoted to expanding its own brand. We are very clear that only when attaching equal importance to for instance design, production and brand sales while paying attention to risks, the company can manage to turn the corner and grow bigger and stronger, says Mr Jiang Hao.

During an auction at Kopenhagen Fur, there is a very special atmosphere in the house. The auctions are the highlights of the year and a time when every employee is doing his or her best to ensure everything runs smoothly in order to give our customers and buyers a good experience at the auctions. - We strive to give the best possible service when our guests visit Kopenhagen Fur. Each employee makes an effort to prepare for the arrival of our customers, says Brian Tufvesson, Head of Customer Department.

Better CoordinationRegistration prior to arrival is required in order to better service the buyers and customers of Kopenhagen Fur. This means that we can anticipate and plan the service of international guests. Brian Tufvesson highlights the benefits of registration. - When the customers and buyers register their arrival, we are able to coordinate the number of the required samplemen in a professional way, so every customer receives sufficient assistance. It also helps the kitchen, as the chefs know exactly how much food

to cook. In the end, it is also a matter of fire safety. Registration is a great help for us and we would be very thankful to have a full overview of the exact number of people in the house at the auctions, says Brian Tufvesson.

We have an ongoing correspondence with the Danish embassies around the world on how the issued visas are being used and by whom. Only by registration at Kopenhagen Fur are we able to confirm to the embassy that a certain customer or buyer has visited the auction house. This makes it easier to register for a visa in the future, says Brian Tufvesson.

Please inform us how many guests you are bringing. - Secondly, the customers and buyers are also required to register upon arrival at the main entrance.

Buyer’s registration – how to register to get your Buyer numBer for the saLe:Buyers arriving during the inspection or the sales of an auction are required to register by signing the Buyer’s Register form as early as possible in order to have seats allocated in the auction room. Please note that the registration may take time, especially when many buyers wish to register at the same time. Before the sales, the registration takes place in the Customer Department. On selling days, the registration takes place at the Customer Service Counter in front of the auction room.

The White Swakara Top Lot was sold to a Greek furrier with ambitions to develop the fur industry in Greece.

The White Swakara Top Lot will be sewn into a fur coat in Greece and finally sent to China. A Chinese VIP will look stunning wearing the White Swakara fur coat made of the

September auction’s Top Lot. The lot was bought for 1,340 DKK per skin by Mr Argiris Kranias, Kastoria, Greece.

Argiris Kranias is the owner of AVANTI FURS, along with his brothers Stavros and Loukas. He finds quality very important. The fur company, established 150 years ago, owns and operates all AVANTI Fur stores. Customers can buy the AVANTI fur coats at 27 AVANTI FURS stores and sales points worldwide. AVANTI FURS works with all kinds of fur and buys several types of Top Lot skins each year, all of which are used in AVANTI collections made in Kastoria, Greece.

- The profit made on the Swakara coat will be donated by AVANTI Furs to a fur manufacturing school in Kastoria. The fur manufacturing school, where any young person in Greece can learn how to work with fur, was founded in Kastoria. The school is supported by HAF, the Hellenic Association of Fur, says Argiris Kranias.

The purpose of the school is to teach young people to work with fur and hopefully they can be employed in the fur industry afterwards. Mr Argiris Kranias buys all kinds of skins for the students to develop their sewing skills, an example of the fur industry providing an environment to help students improving their skills in the long run.

Ahmet Demir has been a regular customer at Kopenhagen Fur’s auctions for more than twenty years now and is an experienced Top Lot buyer.Tuesday’s auction was drawing to a close and in the auction

room Ahmet Demir, owner of Punto, a Turkish company, was waiting patiently for the Chinchilla Top Lot sale. The company sells styles made of Top Lots to be sold in some of the large Italian stores that only want the best quality. Italy is known to be a country that manufactures quality leather goods, so the fur skins have to live up to the same standard.

Therefore, Ahmet Demir bought the Chinchilla Top Lot. Chinchilla skins are sold in Denmark and Finland only, so Ahmed Demir attended the auction in Denmark to find the perfect skins for his collections. The chinchilla skins that are sold in Denmark are of good quality and Ahmed Demir was very pleased to be able to buy the Top Lot for 990 DKK per skin.

The Turkish fur market is growing, so the auction room had more Turkish customers than usual at the September auction. However, Ahmet Demir is not a new customer; he has attended the auctions for the last 28 years. He has always had a keen eye for good quality, wanting to give his customers the best products.

- I bought the lot because the customers want to have something that is top quality and I aim to please my customers, says Ahmet Demir.

The Sapphire Cross Female Top Lot was bought by one of Kopenhagen Fur’s Korean customers.

Shon S. H. Han bought the Sapphire Cross Female Top Lot at the high price of 1,000 DKK per skin. He is a regular buyer at Kopenhagen Fur’s auctions and travels worldwide to buy the best skins on the market. He is General Manager and Principal Buyer for Fur Department of Jindo Co., Ltd. which is the largest fur company in South Korea with more than a hundred shops.

- We have a good connection with some TV-shops and department stores in South Korea, and we are going to have a lot of advertising over the next couple of months showing the very best fur styles and finest quality. The Top Lot will be made into a knee-length mink coat, because this style is very popular in South Korea these days, says Shon S. H. Han.

Jindo Co., Ltd. buys the skins at Kopenhagen Fur because of the good skin quality. The company uses fox and mink skins, but mainly they use mink for their fur collections. These collections have different target groups, so the styles vary.

Davi Levinson was the lucky buyer of the White Velvet Male Top Lot. He was looking forward to taking it home to his Russian customer.

Among a number of bidders, Davi Levinson from Antalya, Turkey was the one to buy the top lot of White Velvet. One of his loyal customers had asked for white skins, so Mr Levinson was very determined to get this particular lot.

- I only work with the best skins. My customers are very discerning and they can tell that I deal with the best quality. I have a Russian lady who is waiting for a white mink coat and now I have got it for her, says Mr Levinson.

Davi Levinson has approx. 150 shops in Turkey and Moscow under the name Voux. He recently opened a 10,000 m2 shop in Dubai, his largest shop.

The Swakara Black Top Lot is going to be the beginning of a new chapter for ’Elena Furs’.

Mr Artem Stepanyan, second generation in the company, is an experienced buyer at Kopenhagen Fur’s auctions. The company is a regular customer having bought skins for years through their broker

Morisco Denmark A/S.

’Elena Furs’, which has existed for 20 years, has several stores and offices in Moscow and St. Petersburg. During the last five years, the company has expanded and changed its business strategy.

Normally, the company buys many mink skins and wild furs at the auctions. However, this time it was slightly different. ’Elena Furs’ is designing a new collection using Swakara and for that purpose they bought the Black Swakara Top Lot at the September auction at 1,560 DKK per skin. Buying the Swakara Top Lot is a symbol of a new beginning for ’Elena Furs’.

- Our company is very popular on the Russian market, which means that we are developing very fast. We hope that this will be the great new beginning, says Artem Stepanyan.

The Russian market loves Swakara. ’Elena Furs’ sells the different designs direct to the customers from their stores. Now, wanting to try something new in the fur business they are planning to buy even more Swakara skins in the future.

fur garments eXhiBition at the nationaL museum

annuaL Charity triP to namiBiaDuring the 2013/14 selling season, farmers donated 11,775 skins to Kopenhagen Fur’s charity organisation. The skins were sold during the June and September auctions and fetched more than USD 146,000. The money will be spent on supporting more than 30 pre-primary schools in Katutura, a large slum area outside Windhoek.

Each year a lucky draw is held for the employees and farmers who make donations to Namibia. The prize is a trip to Namibia to visit some of the pre-schools and meet with the organisation which runs the project for Kopenhagen Fur in Namibia, S.P.E.S. Charity. This year’s winners were Marianne and Henrik Germansen, farmers, and Asger Kristensen and Jackie Dannerfjord Jahnke, employees of Kopenhagen Fur.

- We visited three pre-schools, says Inge Østermand, Executive Secretory at Kopenhagen Fur, and continues: One pre-school has been in the programme for only one year, whereas the other two have been in the project for 5 and 7 years respectively. There is a marked difference between the schools. Maria Pre-School, which has been in the programme for 7 years, started with 15 children and now there are 140 children in the school. Fiina Martin, the owner of the pre-school, is an enterprising woman who has succeeded in finding other sponsors to build additional classrooms and toilets for the many children. - We also met for lunch with Margrietha H. Cloete, owner of Butterfly Pre-school, the very first pre-primary school that we supported in Katutura. When we met her for the first time, she was living in a small shack made of corrugated iron. It was so small that 5 people could hardly stand in the house. Margrietha is the most enterprising school leader of them all. She now has a very fine pre-school and teaches the teachers of the schools creative ways of interpreting the curriculum for the pupils. Now she even has computers, so her pupils learn computer skills, says Inge Østermand.

Butterfly Pre-school is also the first kindergarten to offer aftercare. This is a pilot project that S.P.E.S Charity has organized in order to help some of the children who are now at school. These children receive help with their homework, a meal and equally important - a safe place to be.

- We are positive that aftercare classes will make a big difference for these children and we hope that we will soon be able to start aftercare classes in the other pre-schools, says Inge Østermand.

Fur – an issue of life and death is a major exhibition in Copenhagen that displays fur clothing in a historical and current perspective.

The exhibition displays historical fur garments from the northern hemisphere and modern fur garments that illustrate contemporary fashion. The Danish National Museum has one of the largest and most well-preserved historical fur clothing collections in the world. This forms the backbone of the exhibition where guests are presented with various viewpoints. This temporary exhibition at the National Museum of Denmark is open to the public until 22 February. The National Museum is Denmark’s largest museum.

Fairytale dust was sprinkled over the designs as Chinese fashion starlets Lulu Liu, Qi Gang, creative cluster Kopenhagen

Studio and Danish furrier Birger Christensen opened the Beijing Fashion Week with a stunning Fairytale Fashion Show staged by Kopenhagen Fur.

Inspired by the Danish father of modern fairytales, Hans Christian Andersen, the show featured four of his most influential characters: The Little Mermaid, The Nightingale, Thumbelina and The Princess on the Pea. Being a world-famous author, Hans Christian Andersen has become a key element of Denmark’s international cultural exchange. Inspired by Andersen’s fairytales, Kopenhagen Fur took its part in the Danish Cultural Festival by focusing the fashion show on his famous fairytale characters. The Danish Minister of Culture Ms. Marianne Jelved was also present at the show as an honorary guest.

- Denmark and China may have different cultures, but there are also many things that link us. It is a privilege to be here today and experience this bond, said Ms Marianne Jelved and added:

- Danish and Chinese designers have come together and by combining their talents, they have created some truly magical interpretations of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale characters.

did you know? the CoLours of fur CLothingduring the Chinese new year

Because the Chinese New Year often falls in the cold months, fur garments are often the gift of choice. But what kinds of fur garments are preferred by the millions of people in China who are celebrating their holiday? Fur clothing featuring red or bright colours is commonly worn throughout the Chinese New Year. In addition, people typically wear new clothes from head to foot to symbolize a new beginning in the New Year, which is why additions to the wardrobe are preferred.

red is the CoLour of good LuCkRed is a significant colour in China. If you visit China, you may notice some people wearing red belts or that there is a proliferation of red clothes in department stores, including fur garments. The reason for this is that red is the colour of good luck. Some may only wear red for the duration of the Chinese New Year, but others wear it all year round. Red also symbolizes flames and, within Chinese tradition, flames could scare off evil spirits, which adds to its importance. Traditionally, people in China would wear red shoes, but red underwear is the modern take on this tradition and gold-embroidered designs are very popular these days. However, even though red is the dominant colour during the Chinese New Year, other colours are also featured due to their symbolism.

other CoLours and their meaning in China

Qing In North America and Europe, people may not recognize this colour. Traditionally in China, it is a variation of blue and green shades coupled together. Although there is now a separate word for the blue colour in China, it traditionally grouped most shades of blue together with green under the name Qing, whose character derives from the idea of plant life. This colour corresponds to the Chinese element of wood and therefore represents nature and renewal and often indicates spring. The colour also implies vigour and vitality.

BLaCkBlack, corresponding to the Chinese element of water, is a highly regarded colour in China. The I Ching (Book of Changes), which is one of the oldest texts in China, regards black as the colour of Heaven. It is used in the well-known Taiji symbol, which uses black and white to represent the unity of Yin and Yang. In ancient China, the philosopher and poet Laozi, who founded Taoism, said that: `five colours make people blind , so black was chosen as the colour of this religion.

whiteWhite, corresponding to the Chinese element of metal, represents gold

and symbolizes brightness, purity and fulfilment. White is also the colour of mourning. It is associated with death and is used predominantly in funerals in the Chinese culture. Ancient Chinese people wore white clothes and hats only when they mourned for the dead.

yeLLowYellow, corresponding to the Chinese element earth, is considered among the most beautiful and prestigious colours. In fact there is a saying in China that goes: Yellow generates Yin and Yang. This implies that yellow is the centre of everything. The colour yellow is associated with brown but still ranked above this colour. Yellow signifies neutrality and good luck, and it is sometimes paired with red in place of gold. Yellow also has an important historical value because it was the emperor’s colour in Imperial China and it is now held as the symbolic colour of the five legendary emperors of ancient China. Yellow often decorates royal palaces, altars and temples, and the colour was used in the robes and attire of the emperors. Yellow also represents freedom from worldly cares and is thus esteemed in Buddhism. Monks’ garments are yellow, as are elements of Buddhist temples. Yellow is also used as a mourning colour for Chinese Buddhists.

The Chinese New Year celebrations, also known as the Spring Festival, start on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The festival lasts for about 23 days, ending on the 15th day of the first lunar month in the following year in the Chinese calendar. This year, the Chinese New Year begins on 19 February, but the preparations for the festival usually begin in late December.

Auction schedule for the coming seAsonThe dates for the coming season have now been set. In order to accommodate the buyers, Kopenhagen Fur has chosen to move the December auction 2014 to January 2015.

For some time now, many of Kopenhagen Fur’s buyers have expressed a wish that the December auction should be moved.As China has steadily become one of the largest players in the buyers’ market, the December auction has proved to be a slight inconvenience to Chinese buyers. In China, the sales season for fur garments ends with the Chinese New Year in January or February. Therefore, a relatively small supply of skins for sale in December could create uncertainty about the price of mink skins for retailers during a crucial time in the sales period. By moving the auction to January this problem is minimized. It will also be possible for Kopenhagen Fur to make a larger and more attractive offering of skins which will benefit buyers and suppliers – while simultaneously minimizing the auction’s influence on retail sales. - We have discussed the timing of the December auction for some time now. It has its advantages and disadvantages. In

the end we have chosen to accommodate our buyers wishes for a better time and an increased offering of skins in January, says Torben Nielsen, CEO of Kopenhagen Fur.

Better for fArmers As wellAccording to Jesper Lauge, Kopenhagen Fur’s Sales Director, the new January auction will also benefit the farmers that send their skins for sale at Kopenhagen Fur. - These farmers will experience a larger auction with a wider assortment of skins and with greater security with regard to a stable price level. The farmers who deem it necessary to have access to a quick cash flow will also benefit from this solution. They will receive their sales proceeds a little later but, in return, over three million skins that would previously have been sold during the February auction can now be sold at the January auction. So we expect benefits for both buyers and farmers alike, says Jesper Lauge.

The rest of Kopenhagen Fur’s auctions will be held as usual in February, April, June and September.

imagine – strengthening the internationaL fur market

The Imagine initiative is divided into three sections. Imagine Academy introduces design students from some of the most influential design universities in the world to mink, chinchilla, seal and numerous other skin types. The students then incorporate these skin types into their own designs. KiCK also offers courses at these universities and the students that display the most skill are then selected to represent their respective universities in the annual global show, Imagine Talents. The third and final part of Imagine is the Imagine Manufacturer Programme. This programme ensures that relations are created between design

students and manufacturers prior to the students’ graduation. - Earlier we held a design competition called The Golden Fur Pin. This competition connected manufacturers, design schools and design students on a national level, but as Kopenhagen Fur has grown, we have focused more on the international market. So Imagine is an expansion of that previous concept on an international level. There is an important difference between the two concepts; Imagine Talents is not a competition but a talent show where students can display their skills. The Imagine initiative acknowledges each individual design student and strengthens their

future possibilities, says Michael Stadi, Head of KiCK.

the first stePsThe process in Imagine begins with design educators from universities that participate in Imagine Academy being invited to a workshop in Denmark. Here they are introduced to various skin types and furrier techniques. After Kopenhagen Studio has completed these courses these teachers return to their universities and their own students. These design teachers then select students to participate in Imagine Academy, where they learn about different skin types and furrier techniques. Once these classes have settled in, they are in turn visited by Kopenhagen Studio, who educates both local producers and selected design students.

high seLeCtion CriteriaThen the universities each select five exceptional students from their master classes that excel. Their designs are then reviewed by KiCK who select three students from these groups of five. Once this selection process is completed, these 21 design students are then finalists representing their respective universities in the Imagine Talents Show. - The selection of the students is based

on their innovating ideas and use of materials. They also have to demonstrate a willingness to participate in the Imagine cooperation, says Jisoo Han, who teaches at Seoul National University. Building this bridge between the fur trade, design students and manufacturers is important, because it provides a demand for fur in the future. - With Imagine we are moving further into the international arena and from there we can influence the fur trade. We would like to ensure that fur remains a part of international fashion in the future and that’s why we are reaching out to these various universities offering them an insight into furrier techniques, says Michael Stadi and adds: - We learn a lot from our cooperation with the universities from all over the world. Every time we visit them to teach, we learn as much as we teach, so we grow each time we visit a class. Also, these visits mean that we can meet the students while they are developing their designs. That way, we are able to spot the talented students before others in the fashion trade and develop relations with them. The January 2015 Imagine Talents Show will be held during Copenhagen Fashion Week. The 21 design students will each present their own fur styles with a futuristic theme.

fur – an issue of Life and deathFur - An Issue of Life and Death is a major

exhibition about fur clothing. The exhibition

includes historical and contemporary fur

garments from the northern hemisphere and also

represents a forum for current debates on fur,

exploring the ethical issues of farming or hunting

wild animals to use their skins as clothing.

The National Museum’s own collection of furs

is not large enough to explore all these issues.

The museum is therefore sourcing modern fur

garments to display in the exhibition – showing

the best modern fur designs and highlighting the

eternal fascination of fur as a material.

Promoting the smaLL skin tyPesKopenhagen Fur’s creative department KiCK wants to bridge the gap between the fur and fashion trades. By working with new designers, KiCK can develop and work innovatively with small skin types, such as seal, chinchilla and Swakara.

The fashion trade is brimming with upcoming designers who are interested in working with fur. Some of these designers are asked to make a collection in collaboration with Kopenhagen Fur. These collections are part of a branding strategy intended to inspire the fashion trade with innovative fur styles. Every year, KiCK creates collections using skin types such as seal, Swakara and chinchilla. These skin types are used for a lot of exciting design projects which are shown all over the world. - We have a lot of projects with upcoming designers, but we also experiment with the fur ourselves. Our latest style consists of chinchilla and seal and has been made for Beijing Fashion Week. The style was inspired by the fairy-tale `Thumbelina´ written by H. C. Andersen, says Michael Stadi, Head of KiCK. Earlier this year, the new Danish designer Mark Tan also based his

collection on seal skins and the purpose of this collection is to reinvent the survival element in fashion. Mark Tan’s designs have already gained a lot of respect among his peers.

PLans for the futureThis year, the Swakara collection will be made by designers Kjetil Aas and Thilde Bay Kristoffersen, who went on a trip to Namibia earlier this year to see how Namibian farmers work with the special African skins. These collections are very important for KiCK, because they illustrate to the fashion trade the many various design possibilities that these skin types provide. - There is a demand for making collections of fur because it is a good opportunity for the designers. When the collections of Swakara and seal are finished, we will make a series of brand pictures showing the styles and providing inspiration. These pictures, as well as the

collections, will be shown in the coming season, says Michael Stadi.

PLans in deCemBer and January

KiCK has planned two events in December. The designers are scheduled to finish the Swakara and seal collections and a team from KiCK will travel to Paris to promote them. Copenhagen Fashion Week will be held from 28 - 31 January. During this event, KiCK will present the talent show Imagine. - In February, students from Beijing University will visit KiCK to hear more about their work with chinchilla, seal and Swakara. - In March, design students from Seoul University in Korea and a university in Paris will also visit KiCK to learn about fur skins.

NEW cancellation policy for 2015 : For individual reserva-tions you can change or cancel 48 hours prior to arrival, or you will be charged with the first night.

For group reservations :

until 45 days before the first arrival, the reser-vation can be cancelled without any cost. After this date a maximum of 50% of the original res-ervation can be cancelled after the below men-tioned rules:

- until 15 days before the first arrival, 50 % of the original reservation can be cancelled without any cost- until 10 days before the first arrival, 25 % of the original reservation can be cancelled without any cost- Rooms not cancelled seven days before the first arrival will be charged 100 % date changes will be ac-cepted without any cost on the condition that the hotel has available rooms on the alternative dates.If the rooms, as a result of lack of available rooms, are cancelled, the hotel refers to the above listed cancellation terms.
