Welcome back to term 4 at Kootingal Public School. During our holiday period we had work completed across the school in a number of areas. Our general assistant Mr Foody and our casual general assistant Mr Loftus worked hard to ensure areas of our school we both maintained and continued to improve. The roses along the front of our original heritage listed building are now encased in the heritage green colour that adorns all of our other buildings. Mr Loftus continued this painting and painted the edging of the playground equipment. Mr Loftus was very busy completing the shelving units for the greenhouse in our garden patch. Mrs Blinman and I met during the holidays to source new seedlings and equipment for our budding gardeners.

Kootingal Public School also had an upgrade and, in some cases, the installation of new electrical distribution boards across the school. While we were without power for a number of days in the administration block this will ensure that the power needs of Kootingal Public School are maintained for future situations. As yet there is no further news on the cooler classrooms project that will see reverse cycle air-conditioners installed in all learning spaces.

While Mr Foody was busy using the whipper snipper and mower, Mr Loftus put his carpentry skills to good use and put together the carcasses of our cupboards and install them including the doors in our Breakfast Club area. In these cupboards are our food items and equipment necessary for the operation of Breakfast Club. These cupboards replace the old open shelving units that were on the walls. The new cupboards provide a more pleasing aesthetic as well as keeping our food products and equipment dust free. Breakfast Club also took delivery of a new fridge. The old fridge had an extensive history of leaking. This new fridge should see us out of trouble for quite a number of years.

It is my great pleasure to announce that Miss Leticia Booby was offered a permanent position at Kootingal Public School during the holidays. Miss Booby placed second to Miss Magann in the open merit selection classroom position in 2019. As principal I used this with the department when they were unable to secure a permanent teacher to assume the position vacated by Mr Griffiths. Kootingal Public School is extremely fortunate to have the services of an outstanding teacher like Miss Booby. Congratulations Miss Booby and may you have many years with the students, staff and broader community of Kootingal Public School.

It is with great sadness that our school chaplain Mr Chuck Shave has come down with an illness that will see him leave the position of school chaplain at Kootingal Public School for

term 4. However we have a very capable replacement in Mr Gary Stuart. Mr Stuart comes to Kootingal Public School with extensive experience in chaplaincy out at Wee Waa. Mr Stuart worked in the Christian school and both primary and high schools in Wee Waa. Mr Stuart has also worked in the department as a general assistant. We look forward to continuing the work of Chuck through Mr Stuart in term 4 and we wish Chuck a very speedy recovery.

Next week is the monthly P&C meeting. This meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 20 October at 6 pm. This meeting will occur via Zoom. To attend this meeting you must have a reg is te red Zoom accoun t and ema i l ( koo t inga l [email protected]) or call Kootingal Public School (67603332) to obtain the details of the online meeting. The meeting will conclude on or prior to 8 pm. At this meeting I will go through our impending school plan including proposed strategic directions and outline the procedures to ensure the alternate girls’ summer uniform is ready for implementation in 2021.

While some of the restrictions placed upon schools from the department have eased, we are still unable to have large gatherings of adults within our school premises. This means our assemblies, as we normally would say pre-COVID, are still only an internal assembly without the ability to have families and community members present. We are hoping by the end of the school year we will be able to return to some normality for our presentation night. Myself and Mrs Dunn are working towards this, however I will keep our community abreast of any changes.
