Kitscoty High School April 2019
Principal’s Message
Kitscoty High School is a place where
all can learn. Recently, during our
School Based Professional Learning
Day on March 22nd
, teachers worked
with our school’s Literacy Coach,
Jeanette Richards, to learn new strat-
egies that will assist our students to
improve literacy across all subjects.
We have worked with Jeanette sever-
al times this year to strengthen litera-
cy in our school and to help engage
students with reading.
Becoming a better reader will help a child be more successful in all aspects of
school. Here is a link to some ideas showing ways parents can help:

April 8th is designated a report card day and some schools will be issuing report
cards on that day. As a reminder, this year our school is moving to electronic report-ing of grades and therefore we will not be sending home paper report cards. Parents are encouraged to sign up for BTPS Parent Portal online to access student infor-mation, grades and comments. Parent Portal is only one method of communication. Ongoing conversations and meetings regarding questions, concerns or student pro-gress in this course are still key to student success. Here is a link to some frequent-ly asked questions about electronic reporting:

Please take some time to reflect on your child’s progress with them. I hope that all students will find a renewed focus as we enter the last few months of the school year. There is still so much to learn, and springtime can often make it difficult for stu-dents to focus on school. All of our staff appreciate the continued support from par-ents in helping make sure that all students have a successful end to the school year.
KITSCOTY HIGH SCHOOL APRIL 2019
Our students have been part of so many inter-esting and diverse learning opportunities this year, all of which are aimed at helping them to develop as well-rounded young citizens. Alt-hough much of our focus at school is on specif-ic subject-area learning, we also continue to work on character building and strive to expose students to a variety of other great learning ex-periences that transcend the traditional class-room. Recently, this has included:
Building quinzees in Outdoor Education
Using our new Sphero Bolt robots in Math class
Completing social dance units in PE
Bowling with the grade 10 Great Grade Challenge winners
With only 14 school days before the Easter Break, this month is sure to fly by! I hope that everyone takes a chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather that I’m sure will come our way over the Easter break. I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy week. Whether you are travelling or staying home to “chillax”, enjoy the time off from school. I look forward to many more positive experiences as we head in the final stretch of the school year.

KHS SR High Curling Team attended provincials in St. Paul on
March 8th and 9th. They had an awesome week and finished
the round robin with a 2-2 record; which put them in a 5 way tie
for first in their pool (never before seen at provincials). They
lost in a tie breaker just falling short of the semi finals. They
also met Rachel Homan and Marcel Rocque at the banquet! An
awesome experience
all around.
Building constructive study habits with your child
We have basic needs as humans – we must look after these basic needs first before we can
effectively study! - Food, Water, sleep, physical activity. Ensure your child’s basic needs
are all met to ensure they will be successful in their study habits!
Sit down with your child and schedule an assigned study time each day. Routine is es-
sential and you know your child’s schedule best. Carve out a time in each day to assign
to study time.
With setting a time each day to study, ensure your child has a space they continually use
to study. This area should be free from distractions and allow them to feel comfortable
and remain focused.
Follow up with your child on important dates, including exams, major assignments, and
encourage them to use an agenda to ensure they are prepared and meeting deadlines.
Have you connected with your school parent portal? Here you will be able to access infor-
mation on your child’s attendance, grades, courses, homework, etc.

Grade 7A Language Arts learned how to write Found Poetry and then practiced the format by writing a poem about what it means to be a Kitscoty Cavalier. Once the poems were finished, each student put
the poem on a T-shirt template and decorated it. These poem posters were displayed at the office for the months of February and March.
They did a GREAT job!
Reminder to Parents:
If your child is going to be away from school, please inform the office of their absence so we can
have an accurate record of attendance. If your child is arriving during school hours, they must sign in
at the office.
Thanks!
BTPS Parent Portal provides access to Attendance, Marks, and Electronic Reporting. Wheth-
er you are creating an account for the first time or adding a child to an existing account, con-
tact the school and we can get the necessary information emailed to you. If you already have
an account, but are unsure of the username or password, go to BTPS Parent Portal log in page
and click on Forgot Username or Password and you will receive an automated email with the
info you need. Once you have an account, you may download the PowerSchool mobile app
from the App Store or Google Play.
Students may access the mobile app with their username and password they use to log on
to a school computer.
Parents and students will need the district code to log onto the app which is GFST.
