Sharing Our News Welcome Back

Out and About

Stage 2 had a wonderful day in Sydney on Friday. The excursion

was designed to round off their learning on ‘Our Fleeting Past’. The

weather was fantastic and The Rocks is always a vibrant place to be.

I was especially impressed with the quality of artworks produced by

the students as they sketched landmarks from Campbell’s Cove.

Thank you so much to Mrs Barry for her organisation and Mrs

Bowman, Miss Gay and our parents for their involvement on the day.

Writing Enrichment

I had great pleasure in sharing a learning experience with the

students who took part in our Writing Enrichment Day yesterday.

These students worked through a variety of sessions in the day to

enhance their writing skills. Thank you to Mrs Hovey for her

organisation. Also thanks to Ms Garven and Mrs Hawkins for their

presentations.

Naplan

Naplan takes place next week. There is more information further on

in the newsletter.

Reports/Assessments

This term is a short term – 9 weeks. The staff still have quite a lot to

teach before assessment can begin – especially in Stage 2 and 3.

For this reason they have asked if we can send out reports in Week

1, Term 3 and have interviews in Week 2, Term 3.

Class teachers will contact you for an informal meeting or interview if

they have any progress concerns during Term 2. Alternatively, if

there are any concerns you have, please ring and make an

appointment to see your class teacher or arrange a suitable time for

them to phone you.

Next week Year 3 and 5 students throughout

Friday 17th May for any student who may be ill

through the week.

Parking Signs As you are aware we have new signs in Sussex Street to cater for the safety of our children. For your convenience we have included some information from the RTA website:

To further ensure the safety of our children, the P&C has erected signs on the Sussex street fences to remind drivers of the drop off/pick up area. These signs indicate the areas where the zone starts and finishes.

Parents of Year 4 students:

Opportunity Class (OC) 2014

Applications for opportunity class placement in 2014 will

be available online from Monday, 29th

April 2013 by

going to the NSW Public School website at

www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement.

Applications need to be in by 17th may 2013.

Cracker Night 2013

At the P&C meeting on Monday night plans came

well under way for this year’s cracker night, as it will

be here before we know it!

We would like to ask that all parents/carers put the

2nd August in their diaries so you are able to attend,

and hopefully help out at, this fantastic event. This

evening raises in excess of $10,000 each year for

our school, and as a result we are able to purchase

many valuable resources for your children.

To begin the planning process, we are going to form

a committee who will co-ordinate the night. If you are

able to contribute to this committee, the first meeting

will be on Wednesday 15th May at 9.30am at the

school canteen.

We would also like to get an early indication of

volunteers available. Any help would be much

appreciated, whether you would like to help co-

ordinate a stall or help serve for an hour. Please fill

out the form below and return to the office.

This week in KM.

At the library with Mrs Hawkins we read a story and learnt about

emus. Do you know who sits on the egg in the nest before it

hatches? We do!

Our buddies helped us make a gift for some very special people.

Mrs Forbes has been teaching us about area for Maths. We measured

how many counters it took to fill the area of a goanna.

We have been learning our Jolly Phonics sounds, ‘x’ and ‘y’ are

some of the sounds we have learnt this week.

For COGS we are learning about needs and wants. We know that we

need water and healthy nutritious food but a television or

PlayStation is a want.

Tiddalik The Frog – Dreamtime Story

Tiddalik the Frog is a well-known Australian indigenous story of the frog who drank all the water in the

world. This dreamtime story is reworked into a fractured fairytale and brought to life with the turn of

each giant 3D pop-up page, which serves as a backdrop to this unique theatre experience.

Conservation issues related specifically to the Australian environment are touched upon through this

engaging gigantic book, as life size puppets take the audience on a journey through their eco-systems.

Tuesday 21st May 2013

Cost is $5.00 per student (This performance is covered by Super Cover)

Please return payment/notes to front office.
