COURSE DESCRIPTION

Providence Academy

Goals – The student will:

1. Integrate Biblical principles with the teaching of art

2. Relate Biblical principles to daily life

3. Understand the relationship of the Reformation with the Baroque movement

4. Appreciate the history, geography, culture and art of the Dutch Baroque period

5. Know major Baroque artists, both Dutch and Spanish, their styles and works

6. Produce art of the Baroque times in the Baroque style

7. Understand the Techniques of Art Criticism

8. Appreciate the mathematical and scientific perfection of God in the study of

human anatomy

9. Expand knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design

10. Learn appropriate presentation and display skills for Baroque style art

11. Appreciate the relationship of art, history, music, and drama in art exhibit and art

festival settings

12. Understand the process and purpose of art restoration.

1. Two days per week: Technique class, 45 minutes; History/Appreciation class, 30

minutes

2. Thirty-six weeks per year

Assessment:

1. Review each class

2. Project progress each nine weeks

3. Periodic oral quizzes

4. Periodic art games using class material

5. Written quizzes and tests every nine weeks (only for Grade 6)
