PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We the people of St. Raphael Roman Catholic Church

bring together diverse gifts and backgrounds to form a growing vibrant community

centered in the Eucharist, the source and sign of our unity.

In pilgrimage to the Kingdom of God, our mission is to demonstrate

God's presence and love through: worshipping together, spreading the Good News,

serving others, and enjoying Christ-Centered activities.

Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are committed to sharing our time, our talents, and our treasures to fulfill

God's will for our parish.

LUKE 9:11B-17 (Genesis 14:18-20; Psalm 110; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

KEY VERSE: "They all ate until they had enough" (v.17).

TO KNOW: The feeding of the five thousand is the only miracle story

mentioned in each of the four Gospels, which emphasizes its importance

as foreshadowing the Eucharist. When Jesus sent his disciples out to pro-

claim the reign of God, he told them to "take nothing for the journey"

(Lk.9:3). Just as Israel had to learn to depend on God for their daily needs,

Jesus' disciples must trust in God's providence. As a parable in action, Jesus

multiplied the bread in the wilderness and fed the multitude. Jesus' four

Eucharistic acts sum up every aspect of his life. Just as he takes, blesses,

breaks, and shares the bread with the people, Jesus takes God's revelation,

blesses it by his words and deeds, offers his body and blood on the cross,

and shares God's life with the world. Jesus is our daily bread, our nourish-

ment on our journey to God's kingdom. His precious blood sacrificed on

our behalf gives us everlasting life.

TO LOVE: In what ways does our parish care for the hungry poor?

TO SERVE: Lord Jesus, fill me with your life-giving food so that I may

feed others.

NOTE: The Church is the body and blood of Jesus Christ on earth. The

Late Fr. Anthony DeMello once saw a starving child shivering in the cold.

Angrily he looked up and said, "God, how could you allow such suffering?

Why don't you do something?" There was a long silence, and then

Fr. DeMello heard these words, "I did...I made you!"

Open to those in need—Must have photo ID Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:45pm-7:45pm

Summer is here!

For many food insecure families this means the

added burden of children at home all day without school provided

lunches and snacks. The need for additional help with groceries arises and we are called

to serve. Please make an effort to donate quick-fix breakfast and lunch and items such

as cereal, pop-tarts, instant breakfast envelopes, dry powdered milk, oatmeal, canned

soup, peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna, mustard, mayonnaise and other easy

meal items so children spending the days at home may be able to prepare breakfast and

lunch for themselves. As we come together to help those in need, thank you for your

generosity!

Taste of Faith is a dinner to raise money to help pay for seminarian education in the Diocese of LR.

It is held in Little Rock as well as other areas of the state two to three times per year.

In addition to a meal, attendees are treated to musical entertainment, testimonies from the seminarians and

talks from Monsignor Scott Friend & Bishop Antony Taylor.

It is estimated to cost the diocese $36,000 to educate one man per year. Thus, the diocese needs about $1.5 million a

year for their immediate education & living expenses.
