SUMMER MISSION APPEAL

Next weekend, July 10th, we will be visited by the Most Reverend Christopher Glancy, the Auxil-iary Bishop of the Diocese of Belize City and Bel-mopan, located in Central America. There are 13 parishes in Belize, with 130 mission churches in the villages. The Catholic Church also manages 114 elementary schools, 11 high schools, and 3 junior colleges. There are presently 32 priests

serving in the diocese. Chal-lenges often seen in Belize include gang violence, un-employment, single parent homes, elderly who are abandoned, and human trafficking. Bishop Glancy will be with us to share a bit about the Roman Catholic Church in Belize, and ask for our prayers and support.

WHY GO TO MASS EVERY SUNDAY?

REASON 32

“Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Religious liberty is one of the cornerstones of the Constitution of the United States and a prized freedom of all Americans – whether they believe in God or not. For many in the world, the freedom to practice whatever religion they choose – or not to practice any at all – does not exist. For some there are state religions that they must practice; for others they may not practice any religion whatsoever. Even though we are free to exercise our religion, some choose not to do so. Practicing one’s faith not only deepens that faith but also ensures that the precious freedom to do so will not be taken for granted. Going to Mass every Sunday exercises one of our fundamental freedoms as Americans. With regular exercise comes strength, health and well being.

“He said to them, ‘The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few…’” Luke 10:2

As Catholics we are all called to serve in ministry.

However, many of us are unsure how to use our talents and gifts to build God’s Church.

Talk to God and ask Him what He wants you to do.

The next time one of your fellow parishioners asks you to help or join a committee, it may be the answer to your prayer.

Stewardship—A Time for Gratitude in Action

It’s always a good time to appreciate and give thanks for the gifts we have been given in the form of our family, our first faith group.

In addition, it’s also a perfect time to express our gratitude for our par-ish church and for the many that came before us to establish our place of worship and to keep our faith alive and prospering.

We should also be thankful for our parish school where so many of our children have been and continue to be educated.

Finally, we can be thankful for the many ministries that continue to serve all the different and wonderful groups that make up our parish.

The Sacrament of Baptism Queen of All Saints rejoices in the incorporation of new members into the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism. If you are a registered parishioner, please come into the rectory during business hours to schedule your child's baptism. If it is not possible for you to come into the rectory, please call the rectory to make arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is celebrated two or three Sundays of the month, depending on the time of year, at 1:30 PM - call the rectory for the exact schedule. A Baptismal Preparation class for the parents is required. They are held on select Mondays at 7:30 PM in the Rectory and must also be scheduled in advance. If an adult or a school age child seeks baptism, special arrangements should be made with one of the priests.

The Sacrament of Matrimony Queen of All Saints helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but the lifelong commitment of living a Christian marriage. Parishioners of Queen of All Saints Basilica who are baptized and free to marry in the Catholic Church may celebrate their marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica. Couples from Queen of All Saints seeking marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica should contact one of the parish priests at least six months prior to their intended date of marriage. The couple must meet with one of the priests before the date for the marriage can be confirmed.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those who are at the point of death. As soon as one of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him/her to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived. Therefore, any member of the faithful who is seriously ill because of sickness or advanced age, may properly receive this sacrament.
