2016 Financial Statements

The yearly contribution statements have been mailed out to parishioners who donated $400 or more.

*** Tax statements from the Archdiocese of Chicago for the pledge payments made in 2016 to the Capitol Campaign

have been mailed.

Religious Education News Classes resume this week; both the Grade 2 and Grade 8 students are deep into their preparations for receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. This Saturday, February 11th, the second graders will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Join with me in praying for these children and their families as they experience God’s infinite mercy for the first time. May we all give witness to these young parishioners by receiving Reconciliation often.

Thank You!!! Two weeks ago, we held a Confirmation retreat for our candidates preparing for the sacrament in the spring. Part of the retreat was a small group exercise guided by a volunteer facilitator. In the small group candidates were asked to build their own church; complete with a creed, and ministries. We are most grateful to these volunteers who guided them to take ownership of Church: Maria Ramirez, Patti O’Donnell, Kitty Vorisek, Laurie Ryan, Carolyn Barr, Cathy Carroll, Sue Gottshalck, Rico Ramos, Mark Couzin, Michelle Mellinger, Kristina Reyes, and Michelle Smith. We were an important part of the retreat experience.

other human rights.”

- From the Holy Father’s Laudato Si’

*** Over the next several months, the QAS Social Jus-tice Ministry will be engaging in the topic of water and what it means to us as citizens, Catholics, and members of God’s creation. Watch the bulletin for prayers, insights, and actions that you can take to ensure access to clean water throughout our world.

Ministers of Care Formation Sessions QAS is always in need of more Ministers of Care to bring Holy Communion to homebound or nursing home parishioners. The com-mitment is minimal, really—once or twice a month after the 9:30 Sunday Mass, visiting one or two parishioners. And you can ask any of our Ministers of Care, the rewards are great! The five-session Basic Ministry of Care Training Course will be offered at Presence Saint Benedict Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, 6930 West Touhy Avenue, Niles. The course will take place Thursday evenings through March 2nd. Please call Carole Eipers at the rectory (773-736-6060) for further information and to reg-ister. Enrollment is limited, so call soon!

5th Sunday in Ordinary Time—February 5, 2017

The formal phase of our capital campaign is drawing to an end. If you have not already done so, please finalize your decision and return your pledge card.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16 The generosity of being a good steward of your gifts has a positive effect on people and it is conta-gious! Good works encourages more good works. Let your light shine! Be careful to recognize that God is working through you and don’t put yourself above the people you have been called to help.

Stewardship—Understanding our Parish Finances

We rely on three main sources of funds:

Sundays, Holidays, UPP—This is our regular revenue and is by far the largest source of funds to pay for our parish operations. In a sense, this is what “keeps the lights on.” by paying for our staff, our routine repairs and maintenance, and the other day to day costs of running the parish.

Long-Term Savings—We are blessed with savings resulting from the generosity of the past, including parish and school endowments. The earnings from these accounts is used to supplement our regular revenue to balance the budget and, on occasion, to pay for extraordinary repairs.

Capital Campaign—Our now concluding From Generation To Generation drive will be used to make our older parish buildings more suitable for today’s and tomorrow’s needs, including making better use of space for school needs and for the needs of our increasing numbers of lay ministries.

We believe that a well-informed parish membership deserves an explanation of parish finances. For our financial statement covering 7/1/15 to 6/30/16 see our October 25, 2016 bulletin, available on our parish website at qasparish.org.

Thank You For Your Generosity!

We are still accepting pledges for our capital campaign From Generation To Generation, and are now also in the phase of collecting pledges so that we can begin early work on our project.

Pledge forms are available at each of the Basilica en-trances. Please drop your completed pledges in the collection basket or mail them to the rectory.

Payments on your pledges should be directed accord-ing to the directions you will receive from the Archdio-cese, which is handling the administrative aspects of the campaign as it does for all parishes. Payments can be made by check or by credit card, either in single or recurring installments, or by transfers of securities.

Whichever way you decide to pledge, we give you our thanks!

PLEASE NOTE: Your pledge statements for the From Generation to Generation campaign will say

“To Teach Who Christ Is”.

The Sacrament of Baptism Queen of All Saints rejoices in the incorporation of new members into the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism. If you are a registered parishioner, please come into the rectory during business hours to schedule your child's baptism. If it is not possible for you to come into the rectory, please call the rectory to make arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is celebrated two or three Sundays of the month, depending on the time of year, at 1:30 PM - call the rectory for the exact schedule. A Baptismal Preparation class for the parents is required. They are held once a month and must also be scheduled in advance. If an adult or a school age child seeks baptism, special arrangements should be made with one of the priests.

The Sacrament of Matrimony Queen of All Saints helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but the lifelong commitment of living a Christian marriage. Parishioners of Queen of All Saints Basilica who are baptized and free to marry in the Catholic Church may celebrate their marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica. Couples from Queen of All Saints seeking marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica should contact one of the parish priests at least six months prior to their intended date of marriage. The couple must meet with one of the priests before the date for the marriage can be confirmed.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those who are at the point of death. As soon as one of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him/her to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived. Therefore, any member of the faithful who is seriously ill because of sickness or advanced age, may properly receive this sacrament.

Today’s Readings First Reading — If you share your food with the hungry, provide housing for the homeless, then light shall break forth upon you (Isaiah 58:7-10). Psalm — The just man is a light in the darkness to the upright (Psalm 112). Second Reading — My message to you, says Paul, was not clever words of wisdom but the proclamation of Christ crucified (1 Corinthians 2:1-5). Gospel — You are the salt of the earth, the light of the world. In your good deeds your light shines before others, leading them to glorify God (Matthew 5:13-16).
