Why not your car loan?If you think buying a locally raised rump roast makes a difference,

imagine how a bigger purchase, like a local car loan, supports the

community. Right now, Harborstone Credit Union has barn loads of

money to lend to people who not only want to drive a new car but

drive the local economy too. Who could possibly have a beef with that?

Food & fun

What a treat to eat lunch here during the summer!

If you haven’t experienced really good food lately, try these three MWR eateries for fresh variety whether you’re at work or at play:

Sounders Lanes Strike Zone Snack Bar is all about fresh — the chefs are creating new recipes from scratch! Try grilled turkey burgers on sourdough, homemade spaghetti and meatballs, jagerschnitzel and chicken bulgogi dishes, freshly made salad dressings and barbecue sauce, and a din-ner salad side choice with combos.

You’ll find Sounders Lanes Strike Zone at McChord Field open Tuesdays through Saturdays during the summer. Call 253-982-5372 to order ahead.

The chefs at The Bistro at Russell Landing are con-stantly dreaming up fresh ideas for handcrafted gourmet piz-zas, tantalizing pasta dishes and salads (plus sultry summer dinners). Try a lunchtime pizza and see if you don’t agree that there’s nothing like it anywhere else!

The Bistro at Russell Landing is located at the marina on American Lake at Lewis North. It’s open for lunch 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. seven days a week during the summer. Call 253-964-2813 to order ahead. They’ll even bring it out to you.

Talk about gourmet sandwich heaven — you gotta try Battle Bean’s coffee bar and grill made-to-order grilled pannini sandwiches, and freshly made wraps, focaccia and croissant sandwiches, plus healthy salads and soups. Make a picnic of it — find it all inside AFC Arena next to the splash park.

Battle Bean coffee bar and grill is open for lunch seven days a week during the summer. Call 253-967-4458 for more info.

See complete menus online at JBLMmwr.com under Dining and Coffee Shops.

The volcano erupted until 1986 and quietly built a lava dome, which is now 920 feet high.

The spouse trip to Mount St. Helen’s is Saturday, July 16. Scheduled to leave from the Family Resource Center at 8 a.m., the trip will return at 6 p.m. Register beginning July 5 by calling the FRC at 253-967-9496. To start contributing to your TSP account, either download the TSP-U-1 form from tsp.gov or log on to your MyPay account and select “Thrift Savings Plan.” Complete either the paper form or the electronic version to show what percentage of basic pay, incentive pay, special pay or bonus pay you’d like to contribute. (You may also choose the

dollar amount that will be deducted from your pay each pay period.) The paper form needs to be submitted to your pay department; if you use the electronic form on MyPay, you submit electronically.

Be sure your mailing address is up to date when you open your TSP account. Soon after your account is open, you’ll receive three mailings: a welcome letter, your account number and personal identification number. These mailings will come separately to ensure security. Once you receive your account number and PIN, you’ll need to decide where to invest your contribution. Do this through tsp.gov or call the ThriftLine at 1-TSP-YOU-FRST. If you don’t make a selection for contribution allocations, the funds will be invested in the G Fund (government bonds). Changing your contribution allocation changes all future deposits, not the money you’ve already invested. To move money that’s already in the ac-count, you’ll need to complete an interfund transfer at the website listed above.

inancial procrastination costs money. Each day you

delay in taking control of your fi-nances, you could be costing yourself hundreds, or even thousands, of dol-lars. Although we learn from a young age that patience is a virtue, this isn’t true with finances. Most people view financial procrastination as caution or convenience. However, this out-look could prevent you from reaching financial security. Here are several ways you pay by not taking control of your

personal finances:

•Puttingoffyourbillsevenforafewdays can cause missed or late payments. These small delays can lead to lower credit scores and higherinterest rates and fees.

•Waitingtobuildanemergencyfundcan lead to disaster. Being unprepared when a financial emergency arises adds not only financial stress but

emotional stress to your life.

•Notsettingcleargoalspreventsyoufrom reaching them. Goals help you design a path to succeed financially and emotionally. Everyone should have both short-term and long-term goals.

•Failingtocommunicatewithyourspouse about financial matters can lead to arguments and stress.

Take control ofyour finance$ today!
