Welcome to the 1998 Schweppes Ocean Grove Cup.

Following on from a successful 1997 event the Ocean Grove Cup Carnival is continuing to grow in popularity. A truly unique event that showcases the magnificent Bellarine Peninsula and brings together service clubs, charities, sporting clubs, local business and all sorts of individuals in the planning, management and hosting of this wonderful carnival.

The Apex Club of Ocean Grove as the organisers of the carnival and the Barwon Coast Committee of Management in their aim to balance the expectations of the community in terms of recreational needs and environment protection are to be congratulated on the way this event has been conducted.

To the hard working individuals that have attended cup meetings every 2 or 3 weeks for the duration of the year, to the surf club (crowd control) the fire brigade (set up) the SES (traffic management and emergency planning), Howard Culph (race consultant) the festival committee that organised all the wonderful activities associated with the carnival, the community of Ocean Grove and all the many individuals that helped -

Just for the record these ladies have over 700 professional race rides between them in Europe and I'm told Loretta was the number l rider in Holland and Belgium for the 96/97 season.

I am delighted to formally welcome visitors and residents who have returned to RAAF's Beach, Ocean Grove for this annual event.

Congratulations to the Apex Club of Ocean Grove for their initiative in establishing this unique event and for their continued work and development of the attraction. The event now has the support and involvement of a number of community groups and with the

ongoing support of the community and visitors to the area and has a bright future.

The committee aims to balance the expectations of the community in terms of recreational needs and environment protection. We request everyone involved with the event to observe safety on the beach and respect the environmentally sensitive sand dunes by keeping of those areas.
