Important Dates

Arigato for your many orders of O-Tobas or large memorial sticks. We are

happy you remembered your deceased family members and we will do our best to see that your O-Tobas are prepared at your request. Rev. Narashiba has been working hard to fulfill your requests as shown on this page.

Photo at right shows Rev. Narashiba with brush in one hand, ink in the other, and a hard copy of the information on paper as he concentrates to write each character on the O-Toba. Sometimes he has to redo them if the paint smears because of weather or the

surface of the board is not smooth or possibly the blade of the sander was dull. Like the O-Toba above left, the entire O-Toba will need to be re-sanded and rewritten.

Please remember to also visit your O-Tobas after July 12 when the O-Tobas will be ready for your visit to welcome your deceased family members during O-Bon. Thank you.

Oahu Jodo Shu Rengo Fujinkai Convention

On April 23, 2017, the Haleiwa Jodo Shu Fujinkai and Honolulu Jodo Shu Fujinkai met and held their Convention at Haleiwa Jodo Mission. The Haleiwa ladies were delighted that Bishop Gensho

Hara was able to make time from his busy schedule to join this Convention. It is always nice for Haleiwa and Honolulu Fujinkai ladies to meet each year. Both our groups are getting smaller and always thinking how we can make our groups expand. Any suggestions? Keiro ladies were from Haleiwa and

Honolulu Fujinkai and also Bishop Hara Convention group photo; Officers and ministers were given leis made by Haleiwa Sunday School.

Father’s Day Celebration June 18th

We always remember our Mothers, but do we always remember our Fathers?

A concert is being planned for Father’s Day.

Please come to our Father’s Day Ser-vice and honor your father by your pres-ence on June 18th at 10 a.m.

On May 14, the Sunday School surprised everyone with a wonderful concert. Takeru Nii was the MC. Declan Guris read a beautiful Mother’s Day poem he wrote him-self. Sophie Narashiba played the koto (“Sousei Daiichiban”), Himawari Kaneda played the piano (“Valses” by Chopin), Sara Toma played the violin and on one song was accompanied by Rev. Nakano on the piano.

All the female attendees were treated to a carna-tion for Mother’s Day!

Then to Ikoi Hall for a wonderful Chinese luncheon by the Sunday School and Intermediate YBA. THANK YOU Sunday School and In-termediate YBA for a wonderful Mother’s Day!

All the youngsters are so talented! If you did not attend, you missed a wonderful program! They all prac-ticed so hard and it showed with each of their performances! Thank you Declan, Sophie, Himawari, Sara and Rev. Nakano.

Declan left reading his Mother’s Day-poem; Sophie right on koto; Himawari far right on piano; Sara below with her violin.

Jodo Mission of Hawaii Has Many Repair Work

Our temple was built in 1932 and as many of you have noticed repairs need to be done to maintain the temple, like leaky roofs, cement cracking, peeling paint, rusty roof, tiles that need to be maintained, etc. In addition, somethings may be harder to replace. There may not be people in Hawaii who can do the maintenance required. To the right is a manlift used recently to try to detect where the rain water was coming into the women’s restroom? You may have seen buckets in the women’s restroom. Soon we will need to repaint our temple. All these repairs costs a lot of money. Our Board of Directors, including Rev. Narashiba, have to deal with many of these maintenance problems as well as keep our temple operating safely.

If anyone can help by serving on our Board or have any suggestions to the many maintenance problems, we can certain-ly use your assistance.
