La ciudad invita a visitantes y jerezanos a disfrutar de nuestras raíces y nuestras tradiciones
con el programa de actividades diseñado para las Fiestas de la Vendimia 2013. Exposiciones,
catas magistrales, conferencias, ‘De Copa en Copa’, la III Feria Gastronómica de la Vendimia,
actuaciones y animación en la calle, serán algunas de las propuestas dirigidas a toda la fami-
lia, con las que consolidamos una oferta cultural de excepción.
El ciclo festivo comienza el 10 de septiembre con la Pisa de la Uva, eje central de unas Fiestas
dedicadas a promocionar las señas de identidad de nuestra ciudad. En esta edición incorpo-
ramos, como novedad, la Pisa de la Uva Infantil, que se celebrará el 11 de septiembre para
difundir la historia del vino de Jerez entre los más pequeños.
El amplio calendario de actividades organizado hasta el 15 de septiembre persigue poner en
valor nuestra extraordinaria oferta enoturística, única y genuina, así como difundir nuestra
cultura, nuestra historia, y el amplio abanico de atractivos que convierten a esta ciudad en el
mejor destino, durante todo el año.
Este Ayuntamiento apuesta por la cultura como herramienta de crecimiento económico fun-
damental. Tras el éxito de la programación estival, y a pocos días de comenzar con un ciclo
tan importante como es el organizado con motivo de la conmemoración del 750º aniversario
de la incorporación de Jerez a la Corona de Castilla, las Fiestas de la Vendimia nos ofrecen
una oportunidad extraordinaria de disfrutar de Jerez, en toda su esencia

Del 10 al 15 de septiembre 2013, Jerez celebra uno de los ciclos en los que el vino
es protagonista absoluto y se erige en principal argumento de una amplia e intere-
sante programación de actividades.
Las Fiestas de la Vendimia de Jerez rinden cada edición un homenaje al nacimien-
to del nuevo mosto, con la celebración del tradicional acto de la Pisa de la Uva, e
igualmente ponen de manifi esto la importancia de la cultura vitivinícola para nues-
tro territorio y su estrecha ligazón con otros elementos de esta ciudad, como la
gastronomía, el caballo o el fl amenco.
Este año las Fiestas de la Vendimia, plenamente consolidadas en el calendario fes-
tivo de la ciudad, mantienen una serie de propuestas que han conectado con el
público consiguiendo acercarles el universo de posibilidades que se abre en torno
al jerez.
El ciclo de Copa en Copa, las Catas Magistrales, la Feria Gastronómica,… serán
algunas de las propuestas con las que Jerez y sus vinos llenarán el mes de septiem-
bre, y serán la excusa perfecta para conocer la cultura de esta ciudad y el paisaje de
la campiña plagado de contrastes y sensaciones para su disfrute.
Estas son unas fi estas que nos presentan por tanto el vino desde una perspectiva
completa, un recurso de la tierra que se convierte en el máximo atractivo de Jerez
en estas fechas.
En estos últimos tiempos hemos asistido al interés creciente por el maridaje del
vino con caballos, gastronomía, fl amenco o cualquiera de las señas de esta ciudad
y eso es precisamente lo que ofrece el conjunto de actividades de las Fiestas de la
Vendimia, concentradas en seis días inolvidables en los que la ciudad respira un
ambiente diferente anunciando la llegada del nuevo vino.
Como antesala, la arraigada celebración de la Fiesta de la Bulería, que tendrá lugar
el próximo 7 de septiembre y que ofrece lo mejor del arte de Jerez, y tras el ciclo,
en noviembre, Jerez se suma a la celebración por quinto año consecutivo, del Día
europeo del Enoturismo, con un completo calendario de propuestas que vuelven a
situar al jerez como punto de partida para invitar a ciudadanos y visitantes a cono-
cer y practicar toda la actividad paralela que se erige en torno a los vinos del Marco.

Los ricos caldos de nuestra tierra han sido capaces de conquistar los paladares más
selectos a lo largo de su dilatada historia. Desde que los fenicios trajeron las vides
a la entonces Asta Regia hasta nuestros días, el vino de Jerez ha vencido muchas
batallas y se ha colado en la mesa de ilustres nombres como Alfonso X El Sabio,
tras la Reconquista de Jerez; Fernando de Magallanes, que llevó hasta América el
jerez en las bodegas de la nao Victoria, o de Isabel I de Inglaterra quien lo recomen-
dó como ‘el vino ideal’.
El jerez también ha conquistado el cine y la literatura. Sin duda, el mayor elogio
literario al vino de Jerez lo escribió William Shakespeare, en su obra Enrique IV, que
popularizó el jerez con su célebre frase ‘Si yo tuviera mil hijos, el primer principio humano que les enseñaría sería el de abjurar de las bebidas fl ojas y entregarse al jerez’.

El caballo es símbolo e icono de Jerez y elemento fundamental para la promoción
de la ciudad. Por ello, no puede faltar en ninguno de sus eventos culturales, lúdicos
y festivos.
Durante las Fiestas de la Vendimia, caballo y solidaridad se abrazan para recaudar
fondos destinados a instituciones y colectivos que ayudan a los demás. A partir de
la unión de ambos conceptos, nacieron las Galas Ecuestres Benéfi cas incluidas en
el programa de las Fiestas de la Vendimia.
Cada año, la Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre, la Yeguada del Hierro del
Bocado, y A Campo Abierto, colaboran con estas iniciativas benéfi cas que además
engrosan la lista de actividades previstas para el mes de septiembre.

El duende de Jerez inunda las plazas y calles en forma de bulerías cuando llegan
las Fiestas de la Vendimia.
Este es un elemento clave en el programa de actividades y constituye un atractivo
turístico destacado a la hora de promocionar el evento. Una expresión artística
tan nuestra no puede faltar para festejar el nacimiento del nuevo mosto, por ello
el Ayuntamiento de Jerez, a través de la Delegación de Turismo, Cultura y Fiestas,
tiene muy en cuenta esta seña de identidad de nuestra cultura en la organización
de las Fiestas de la Vendimia.
Los Viernes Flamencos, que se celebran cada año en el mes de agosto, se con-
vierten en la antesala de la Fiesta de la Bulería, un emblema cultural de Jerez, que
reúne a los mejores artistas de fl amenco del momento.

El enoturismo en Jerez es, en la actualidad, un segmento emergente, ya que se
ha procedido a la creación y puesta en marcha de nuevos productos y servicios
turísticos como la recuperación de los antiguos despachos de vino, los tabancos,
que son espacios que nos recuerdan la historia de los territorios ligados a la cultura
vinatera.
El calendario de eventos de la Comarca de Jerez está plagado de citas impres-
cindibles para el que quiera disfrutar del destino a partir de sus vinos: La Feria,
las Fiestas de la Vendimia o la celebración del Día Europeo del Enoturismo. La
oferta de actividades en torno al vino es amplia y muy diversa, desde una visita
a una bodega o algunos de los museos y atractivos turísticos que tienen como
protagonista algunas de las denominaciones de origen, hasta otras actividades
tan singulares como recorrer la campiña en bicicleta o practicar tai chi en pleno
corazón del viñedo.
El Enoturismo es un segmento de gran potencial para seguir avanzando en el desa-
rrollo turístico del territorio.

El enoturismo en Jerez es, en la actualidad, un segmento emergente, ya que se

El vino, que tanto ha marcado la historia de Jerez, es el protagonista de la primera
visita temática organizada por el Museo Arqueológico Municipal. Para ello, se ha
trazado un recorrido para que el visitante conozca diferentes aspectos del arte y la
cultura del vino en el Marco de Jerez hasta fi nales del siglo XVIII, momento en el
que comienza el actual sistema de crianza y elaboración.
Nuestro museo cuenta con vasos cerámicos, ánforas, esculturas, relieves, mosai-
cos, y piezas de vidrio, entre otras piezas, que nos hablan de dioses, mitos, símbo-
los, rituales, o comercio relacionados con el vino, cuyo consumo es admitido de
forma general en esta zona en el primer milenio a. C., en época tartésica, con la
llegada de los fenicios.

El vino, que tanto ha marcado la historia de Jerez, es el protagonista de la primera
visita temática organizada por el Museo Arqueológico Municipal. Para ello, se ha
trazado un recorrido para que el visitante conozca diferentes aspectos del arte y la
cultura del vino en el Marco de Jerez hasta fi nales del siglo XVIII, momento en el

Our city would like to extend a warm welcome to visitors and the people of Jerez alike, inviting all to enjoy our local, deep rooted traditions with a programme of events organised for the Grape Harvest Fesival 2013. Exhibitions, master-class tastings, lectures, “From Glass to Glass”, the III Harvest Food Fair, performances and street theatre, are but a few of the at-tractions proposed for the entertainment of all the family and which will combine to produce an exceptional cultural event.
The festive cycle commences on September 10th with the Treading of the Grapes, central to a Festival which is dedicated to promoting the most characteristic emblem of the city. In this edition for the fi rst time there will also be a Children’s Grape Pressing held on September 11th to help promote the deep-rooted historic and cultural connotations of sherry amongst the young.
The extensive calendar of events taking place until September 15th is not only aimed at promoting our extraordinary, unique and genuine offer as a wine-tourism destination but at the same time promoting our culture, history and the wide range of attractions which convert the city into the perfect holiday destination throughout the year.
This Town Council considers our local culture to be a fundamental tool for economic growth. After the success of the programme of events organised for the summer and just a few days before the commencement of such an important event as the commemoration of the 750th anniversary of the incorporation of Jerez into the Kingdom of Castile, the Grape Harvest Festival offers us an extraordinary opportunity to enjoy the true essence of Jerez.

Jerez prepares for the Grape Harvest FestivalFrom September 10th to 15th Jerez celebrates a festival in which wine is the
absolute protagonist and takes centre stage in a programme of activities which is
both interesting and extensive.
The Jerez Grape Harvest Festival pays homage each year to the birth of the new
wine, or “must”, with the traditional act of the Treading of the Grapes, and at the
same time illustrates the importance of the wine-growing culture for our region and
the close links with other cultural elements of the city such as our local cuisine, the
horse and fl amenco.
This year the Grape Harvest Festival, fully consolidated in the festive calendar of the
city, presents a series of proposals which have connected with the general public
and managed to bring them closer to the universe of possibilities which revolve
around sherry.
“From Glass to Glass”, Master Class Tastings, the Gastronomy Fair,.. are but a few
of the events with which Jerez and its wines will fi ll the month of September, the
perfect excuse to know the culture of the city and the surrounding countryside, rich
in contrasts and sensations waiting to be enjoyed.
This is without doubt a festival period which presents wine from a complete
perspective, a resource of the land which during this period becomes the major
attraction here in Jerez.
In recent times we have witnessed growing interest in associating sherry with the
equestrian world, gastronomy, fl amenco or any of the different elements of the
city and this is precisely what is offered by the combination of activities organised
during the Grape Harvest Festival, concentrated over fi ve unforgettable days during
which the city exudes a different atmosphere as it announces the arrival of the new
wine of the year.
As a precursor, the deep-rooted celebration of the Buleria Festival, which will take
place on the 7th of September offers the best of a fl amenco style so characteristic
to Jerez, and after this season of music and dance, in November, Jerez will once
again celebrate European Wine Tourism Day with a comprehensive calendar of
events which will once again establish Jerez as a starting point to invite locals and
visitors alike to know of and participate in the range of parallel activities which are
organised in connection with the wines of the Region.

The conquests of SherryThroughout their long history the rich wines of our land have proved able to conquer
the most select of palates. Since the Phoenicians fi rst brought vines to what was
then known as Asta Regia to the present day, sherry has won many battles and has
made its way to the tables of such illustrious names as King Alfonso X El Sabio after
the Reconquest of Jerez; Fernando de Magallanes, who took sherry to the Americas
in the hold of the Victoria, or Elizabeth I of England who recommended it as “the
ideal wine”.
Sherry has also conquered both cinema and literature. Without doubt the greatest
praise to sherry was written by William Shakespeare in his play Henry IV, which
popularized sherry with the famous phrase: “If I had a thousand sons, the fi rst human principle I would teach them should be to forswear thin potations and to addict themselves to sack”
Equestrian Benefi t GalasThe horse is both a symbol and icon of Jerez, a fundamental element in the
promotion of the city. It cannot therefore be missing at any of its cultural, educational
or festive events
During the Grape Harvest Festival the horse and solidarity embrace in order to
raise funds and aid those institutions and collective groups which provide help for
others. The union of these two concepts led to the creation of the Equestrian Benefi t
Galas included in the programme of the Festival
Each year the Royal Andalusian School of the Equestrian Art, Yeguada del Hierro del
Bocado, and A Campo Abierto collaborate by offering these benefi t events which

Flamenco...always fl amencoThe elusive “duende of Jerez” fl oods the streets and squares of Jerez when the
Grape harvest Festival arrives.
Flamenco is a key element of the programmed activities and is an exceptional
tourist attraction when it comes to promoting the event. An artistic expression so
much our own that it cannot be left out when we celebrate the birth of the new
must, and so when it comes to organising the Grape Harvest Festival, Jerez Town
Council, represented by the Tourism, Culture and Festivals Department, is therefore
very much aware of this manifestation of our cultural identity.
Flamenco Fridays which are held every year during the month of August have
now become the curtain-raiser to the Buleria Festival, a cultural emblem of Jerez,
featuring the best Flamenco artists of current times.

The proposal of the Wine and Brandy Route of the Region is therefore to enjoy the
many wine-related options centering upon the synergies of the horse, fl amenco,
local cuisine and other symbols of the culture and history of Jerez.
In fact the Grape Harvest Festival represents one of the most outstanding events on
the Region’s calendar, fully consolidated for the promotion and projection of sherry
as a tourist attraction.
Over a period of fi ve days a calendar of activities is offered which combines the
most important wine tourism attractions and which generate the greatest interest
of visitors throughout the year, amongst others the binomial sherry-gastronomy,
which may be enjoyed thanks to the paired tastings at the Alcázar de Jerez or the
“From Glass to Glass” event organised by local wineries with sherry as its central
theme.

Wine tourism is currently an emerging sector in Jerez which has led to the creation
of new products and tourist services such as the recuperation of the old sherry
shops and tabanco sherry bars, spaces which remind us of how closely the history
of the region is linked with its wine-growing culture
The calendar of events of the Jerez Region is full of attractions which are essential

Flamenco...always fl amencoThe elusive “duende of Jerez” fl oods the streets and squares of Jerez when the
Grape harvest Festival arrives.
Flamenco is a key element of the programmed activities and is an exceptional
tourist attraction when it comes to promoting the event. An artistic expression so
much our own that it cannot be left out when we celebrate the birth of the new
must, and so when it comes to organising the Grape Harvest Festival, Jerez Town
Council, represented by the Tourism, Culture and Festivals Department, is therefore
very much aware of this manifestation of our cultural identity.
Flamenco Fridays which are held every year during the month of August have
now become the curtain-raiser to the Buleria Festival, a cultural emblem of Jerez,
featuring the best Flamenco artists of current times.

With this aim in mind a route has been prepared which will enable visitors to learn
about the different aspects of the art and culture of wine in the Jerez Region, taking
them up to the end of the XVIII century, when the current production and aging
system was fi rst introduced
Our museum contains ceramic vessels, vases, sculptures, reliefs, mosaics,
symbols, rituals and commerce related to wine, the general consumption of which
was allowed in this region during the fi rst millennium B.C., in the Tartessian age,
with the arrival of the
Phoenicians.
