inside this issue

Thank you for your faithful prayers and loving generosity in 2012! Because of God’s leading, and your partnership, we were able to present the Gospel to more than 91.8 million children and youth all over the world!

This brief article provides you with a mini-Annual Report with updates on a few select programs from around the globe. Remember, you helped make them possible!

n OneHope in the schools. Miraculously, the schools of some European nations have opened to the Book of Hope, The GodMan film and other Scripture engagement tools. Students in France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom are receiving God’s Word in their schools, delivered by teams from local churches. What a blessing, when you consider the challenges of presenting God’s Word in schools of the United States.

What a great moment to look back at 2012, and forward to 2013!

Last year, we presented God’s Word to more than 91.8 million young people — and we finished research projects in China, India, and Tanzania, to name a few (and built new programs based on the results). Because we believe in the local church, we designed these programs to be carried out by local believers and faith communities.

Looking ahead to 2013, we will be continuing these trends with projects like ...

n The Stories of Hope curriculum for Uganda, which will also be utilized in China and other countries. This helps churches build Sunday school and outreach programs focused on basic Bible literacy, which is sorely lacking right now.

n Kids’ Evangelism Explosion, our Pathway to Hope book and Hope for Kids programs. Already these programs are active in 75 nations, and we expect to see them expanding in 2013.

n The GodMan church-planting program. You can read about this in the program updates on page six — it really jump-started the OneHope outreach in Tanzania, and we believe the model can be expanded to other African nations, and beyond.

n God’s Big Story for Mongolia. We just began a major outreach here at Christmastime, and so Mongolia is receiving the benefit of other “tried and true” programs (the Manga Manger Edition Book of Hope which was first developed for Thailand was also used in Mongolia last month). Now we’ll also be using the God’s Big Story program, which was originally developed for Ghana.

It’s beautiful to see how God is orchestrating this ministry, and how through research and partnerships we’re able to adapt effective programs from one region or nation for use in another. We can truly see how the Holy Spirit opens doors, makes connections, and goes before us.

And, of course, how He brings partners like you together with us for maximum impact. Thank you! God bless you! And Happy New Year.

Rob

Be a part of reaching 92.5 million children and youth with the Gospel!

God has led us to a goal of presenting the Good News to at least 92,500,000 children and youth over the next 12 months!

To see that become reality, we need the prayers and participation of every partner. The Faith Plan shows where these young people are and how many will be reached in each nation, as God provides the resources through you and other friends of this ministry.

n North America outreach to the blind. The new audio CD Book of Hope is a full-length dramatization of the Life of Christ story plus a modern-day story line that speaks to the heart-felt needs of blind children in North America. When it made its debut at the National Federation of the Blind in Dallas last year, the response was immediate and powerfully positive! By God’s grace, we’ve already received stories of young lives changed.

n Church-planting using The GodMan film. The nation of Tanzania is a good example: the “Tanzania for Jesus” outreach has used The GodMan film to present the Good News to 246,323 children and youth — and to plant 47 new churches! Film showings in Africa often attract big crowds in search of entertainment, and once children receive the Good News, they share it with their families, and new faith communities are born.

n New partnerships in Mongolia. Mongolia is traditionally considered a Buddhist nation, but God has nevertheless prepared several influential Christian ministries and churches to partner with OneHope in reaching the next generation. In 2012, our Asia-Pacific Directors met with Mongolian believers, and we launched our first-ever Christmas outreach there!

n Open doors to China. We were able to meet the goal of presenting God’s Word to 1.2 million young people in China last year. We are on the way to presenting the Gospel to China’s entire next generation!

This is just a small sample of what you helped to accomplish, together with OneHope last year. Be sure to visit our website at www.onehope.net for more news and updates.

Many schools are open to the Word of God!

The Manga Manger Edition Book of Hope made its debut in Mongolia last December.

Church planting is being powered by The GodMan film and its companion, the Storying Edition Book of Hope.

You showed a Muslim boy the way to new life!Morani didn’t know why his friends wanted to come to this VBS program. They were Muslims in Kenya, and he even attended a madrasah, a Muslim school, sometimes.

He would rather go to soccer camp ... but then, as he listened to the Bible stories, and received the God’s Big Story cards to keep for his own ... things began to change.

Before the week ended, Morani chose to follow Jesus as his Savior!

Today, not only can Morani flawlessly tell all the Bible stories, he uses his 16 cards from the program to teach his own discipleship course to other children and witness to his family!

Kenyan children are learning the Gospel from God’s Big Story.

Morani uses his cards from the God’s Big Story program to tell other children about Jesus.

God’s Big Story: impacting KenyaIt seemed like God’s Big Story had everything it needed to make a big impact on Kenya’s youngest children — and now the research has proved it!

The program is made up of 16 illustrated cards, each with a Bible story illustration on the front and a piece of a larger illustration on the back that shows the whole story of God’s relationship to man; this larger picture (the 17th story) is completed by putting all 16 cards (backside up) together

like a puzzle. Teachers tell one story and give one lesson each week, and children must return to the Sunday school class or Bible club meeting each week to receive the next card.

In 2012, we conducted extensive research to discover how the program was fulfilling its mission of helping children understand the stories, grow close to God, and keep coming back to their class or club meeting.

The results were good! In rural settings, attendance averaged 90%, and overall attendance averaged 81%. Children made marked improvement in identifying individual Bible stories and the overall meta-narrative of the Bible. They also demonstrated that they could re-tell each story, which means they are also learning to share their faith!

OneHope is an international ministry that presents a biblical message of purpose and hope to children and youth around the world. In collaboration with churches and ministries — and working with local governments, schools and non-governmental organizations — OneHope has reached over 880 million young people in over 125 countries with the Gospel message.  Through research conducted among children and youth, leaders and educators in the countries where we work, we have designed innovative ministry models geared to help local churches and ministries engage young people with Scripture.

Alexander doesn’t really remember what the team said ... what he remembers is the silence of his classmates.

Normally, these third-graders in Perm, Russia, were rowdy and boisterous — but when a team of American believers came into the classroom to tell them about Jesus and give them a gift, they were mesmerized.

They’d never seen Americans before! Who were these people? And what was the gift?

It was the Book of Hope, and it was through this book that Alexander Chuharev encountered the story of Jesus.

“This was my first introduction to God, the first seed,” Alexander says today. He didn’t immediately respond to the call to receive Christ as Savior, but he read the book ... and the seed took root. A couple years later, when his mother began attending church, Alexander

went, too, and committed his life to Christ.

“I didn’t have a very deep relationship with God,” he remembers. “I wasn’t really open about it with my friends. I was afraid they would reject me.”

He drifted away from God as a teenager, but all the time the Word was

still in his heart, and he knew he was doing wrong. He tried to fill his life with friends, computer games, and other things that teenagers cling to — but it didn’t work. He felt alone, unloved ... and even considered suicide ...

... but even in his darkest hour, the Word of God still spoke to him. At home, he began reading the New Testament ... and rededicated his heart to Jesus Christ.

Today at age 25, Alexander is a volunteer missionary as part of the “One Year for Jesus” initiative in Russia, and is in training to become a pastor and church planter!

The seed you planted in him has born beautiful fruit, as he shares the Gospel with other young people. Thank you for reaching out with God’s Word!

15 years ago ... you planted the seed

Alexander received the Book of Hope in 3rd grade. Today, he is a missionary and is being trained as a pastor!

Even in his darkest hour, the Word still spoke to him.
