    PARADISE ENGLISH JOINS ATI-ATIHAN

Ati-Atihan, which literally means to be like Aetas, is an 800 year old festival to celebrate and hon-our the presence of the Aetas as the early settlers of Panay Island. As a prelude to the internationally famous Ati-Atihan festival held every January in Kalibo, a town

nearby Boracay, a warm-up parade is held on Boracay. Thousands of revellers, many outfitted in flamboy-ant indigenous costumes with their skin covered in soot, and their faces painted with joyful hues, take part in this parade and stream their way down the length of White Beach while dancing to the distinctive beat of

Hala bira! This year, being its first, Paradise English had a small contingent of staff and students parade under

the banner of Paradise English. We look forward to making this part of the PE tradition so come join us in 2016 be Aetas!

    RETURN ENGAGEMENT

At Paradise English we greeted the New Year by opening our doors to over 60 students, both winter campers and adults. The smooth inte-

gration of these scholars into our program is a tes-tament to our staff who admirably handled the in-

flux in such a professional manner. January and February is the time when we

hold our winter camp for children. At the time of writing the camp is drawing to a close and, as with previous years, this one was a huge success. Our

comprehensive program included 5 hours of group and 1:1 English classes a day followed by off-

campus activities such as Zip Line, Zorb, Helmet Diving, Sunset Sailing, Glass Bottom Boat, and

Beach Frisbee. Of additional note this year is that many campers were returning graduates. In addition, we had returning adults, some

with children in the camp but others just on their own, fulfilling a previous graduation promise to

continue their studies and enjoy the amenities of Boracay.

It is a huge tribute to the quality of our staff and programs that we see the return of graduates. Thank you to everyone for making our annual kick

    -off such a great success.

    LOVE IS IN THE AIR

The pristine water of Boracay is one of the reasons why many couples want to spend their hon-

eymoon on this island. It is a good start to a good life ahead of them.

Early in 2014 one such couple, Lily and Vic from Korea, came to Boracay and Paradise English

and as described by the bride it was the best honey-moon ever. Before 2014 ended, another newlywed

couple chose to spend their Luna de Miel on Bo-racay.

Wein and Kai of Taiwan got married in

Cairns, Australia and later decided to come to Bora-

cay to not only relax but also to study English. This lively couple always found enthusiasm in studying English. It gave them pleasure to study and do

homework together and rarely did we hear them speaking their native language. The desire to study

English is something that they have in common and coming here helped them grow and experience that

as they began the life of husband and wife.

Two other couples closely related to PE also

tied the knot late last year. In a warm sunset ceremo-ny on Diniwid Beach Boracay our teacher Trevor

Gordon and his beautiful bride Ella became as one while another of our teachers, John Teolis and his

lovely bride Maricar celebrated their nuptials in a remote corner of Mindanao, Philippines.

There must be something in the Boracay air, love perhaps?

    PARADISE ENGLISH HAS TALENT

Paradise English students come from all corners of the world. Each of them is unique in their back-grounds, interests, and talents. One such student, Aleks, is an enthusiast of the up and coming sport of pole dancing. She has tried many sports throughout her life, but never felt she had found the one until a friend introduced her to pole dancing about one and a half years ago. One reason she wants to share her enthusiasm for this sport is to break stereotypes about what pole

dancing is. It isnt just something for nightclubs, she says. It is a real sport and might be considered for the next Olympic Games. Aleks feels that all women should try pole dancing because it builds confidence and improves fitness. It requires a great deal of upper body strength and lots of practice and training. She attends pole dancing classes three times a week and loves it so much that she now has an exercise pole at home so that she can practice whenever she wants.

Now I know how I can move and I know what I can do with my body. I am healthy and having fun. I feel more like a woman! Thank you, Aleks, for introducing us to this exciting new activity!
