St. Patrick’s of Tekamah:

Stewardship Thoughts “The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”

- 1 Peter 2:7 - Everyone is given unique gifts. Many people are able to recognize their talents and abilities, but there are many people who are unsure of their gifts. This makes them feel worthless. If you know someone who is struggling for direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern how they might use theis skills. No gift is too small or insignificant. . Children’s good deed: “I put money in the Rice Bowl; I shared my Easter candy; I put money in my Rice bowl.”

From Fr. Kevin… On this Fifth Sunday of Easter, we are reminded

in our second reading that we are a people who

have been called “out of darkness into his

wonderful light” (1 Pet. 2:9). Jesus says, “I came

into the world as light, so that everyone who

believes in me might not remain in darkness”

(John 12:46). How wonderful it is to belong to

Jesus Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism.

How wonderful it is to be called “Christian” and

to practice our Catholic faith. It is truly wonderful

to come to know Jesus personally through the

light of his word: “Your word is a lamp for my

feet, a light for my path” (Ps. 119:105). Just as the

Apostles say in today’s first reading, ”It is not

right for us to neglect the word of God” (Acts

6:2)—neither is it right for us to neglect the word!

For, the light of faith grows through the “light” of

his word. How wonderful it is to know who Jesus

is: “I am the way and the truth and the life”

(John 14:6); “A living stone” (1Per. 2:4); “the

cornerstone, chosen and precious” (1Pet. 2:7,6).

How wonderful it is to know our true identity in

Jesus: “living stones” (1 Pet. 2:5); “A chosen

race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of

his own” (1Pet. 2:9). The Holy Spirit ‘awakens’ us

to recognize how wonderful a life of true faith is.

Come, Holy Spirit! . Peace, Fr. Kevin

Thank you to all who helped with last week’s

potluck for my birthday, and thank you to all for

your birthday cards and generous gifts.—Peace, Fr.

Kevin

Congratulations to the College Graduates from our parish, and the High School graduates Olivia Deemer, Liz Dlouhy, Mitchell Monif and Shannon Pille who will graduate this weekend. May God Bless them with wisdom and grace and keep them safe!

FAITH FACT

What is the meaning of the Easter Lily?

The white Easter lily was used as a decoration in homes and churches since the 1800s. This beautiful white flower is

a symbol of purity and the lily’s trumpet-like shape heralds Jesus’ triumph over death. In addition, when the lily open

up it reveals new life, reminding us that Jesus burst forth from the darkness of the tomb into daylight. May our

Easter celebration persist with an awareness of the Risen Lord!

The Lighter Side

Why is a computer so smart? It listens to its motherboard! What did the baby corn say to the momma corn? Where’s

my popcorn? What did the mommy spider say to the baby spider? You

spend too much time on the web. .

Fatima Centennial 2017 A rosary display is planned; if you have a special rosary to display, please bring it for our display. Please label your rosary. We plan to leave these through October. Congratulations to our new St. Patrick Council

Connealy and Ellen Eriksen. We are grateful to all who agreed to be on the ballot for some close voting. We say farewell and “Thank You!” to Susan Braniff who served our parish as PC Secretary for the last four years!

Doesn’t Take a Vacation” collection May 6th & 7th.
