Italy in Figures

• Italy is the size of the State of Arizona;• Italy has 60.6 million inhabitants compared to other U.S.

trading partners such as Germany (81.8 million) and Japan (128 million);

• Italy is a Top Five exporter of capital goods to the U.S.;• Italy is a Top 10 exporter to the world (more than the

United Kingdom). In 2011, it exported $$524.9 billion.• With even a smaller population, comparatively speaking

in terms of scale, it’s production to population ratio could be viewed as EVEN MORE than mainland China (1.3 billion or 1/5 of the world’s population)!

What is the Italian Trade Commission?• The Italian Trade Commission, is the official trade development and promotional

agency of the Italian Government. It is headquartered in Rome and maintains a network of 117 branch offices in more than 87 countries throughout the world.

• Founded in 1926, the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade, or Italian Trade Commission as it became known in English speaking countries, has the general mandate to promote, assist and develop Italy's international trade, with particular regard to small and medium enterprises.

The Trade Commission's most important institutional functions are:

– the continuous study of international markets and challenges related to the internationalization of Italian enterprises;

– providing assistance to Italian companies in entering international markets; – the promotion of Italian products abroad and development of economic

cooperation; – providing for professional training in international trade for Italians and foreigners.

In the United States, the Italian Trade Commission presently maintains offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami.
