Step 1 – Accessing the Application •Go to https://ceac.state.gov/genniv •Read the instructions and press “Start Application”

Step 2 – Choose the Embassy/Consulate General Choose the Embassy or Consulate General where the applicant will apply Press “Test Photo” to begin uploading the photo

IF THE CHOSEN SELECTION IS WRONG, THE
INFORMATION IN THE DS-160 WILL BE SENT TO
A DIFFERENT DATABASE.
Step 3 – Upload Photo Browse to the photo and press
“Upload Selected Photo”
If the photo meets the quality standards, you can press “Continue Using This Photo”
If the photo does not pass, you have to provide another photo that meet the standards.
SWT applicants and groups of students HAVE TO provide a photo. Applications without photos shall not be accepted.

Tips
If a question doesn’t apply to the applicant, you must check the “Does Not Apply” box.
Answer fully and include as much detail as you can.
Be especially careful with the yes/no questions near the end – misrepresenting the facts can make the applicant ineligible to receive a visa ever.

correct – it’s impossible to make

Step 7 – Submitting the Application
Once you submit the application,
you can’t change it.
Pressing “Sign and Submit Application” constitutes the applicant’s electronic signature, certifying that all the answers on the application are true.

Step 8 – Printing the Confirmation Page
Print the confirmation page
Applicants need to bring the printed
confirmation sheet to the interview
You can print the entire application for your own records if you wish
You can e-mail the confirmation to someone else (e.g., if you are completing the application for another person)

At the end of the interview, the confirmation page shall be kept with the passport for issuance.
The confirmation page shall be
returned to applicants with missing documents.
Such applicants will be asked to
send their confirmation pages to complete their applications.
