Spring Semester 2015 will be an exciting time in my life. I am inviting a foreign exchange student to come live with me as they study abroad for the semester. They will be from Israel, so I put together a short presentation to give you a little background knowledge of where the foreign exchange student is coming from.

Israel’s transportation system includes…

Israel has two main religions derived from two nationalities. The Muslim religion from the Palestinians and Arabs, and Judaism from the Jews. The Palestinians are Arabs whose traditions are founded in Muslim culture; the Jews define their culture in large part around their religion.

"Judaism is the country’s dominant religion with 75.6 percent adherence. Muslims and Christians account for 16.9 and 2 percent respectively"

Israel climate has slight modifications compared to the climate in the united states. Because of Israel's location,

"Israel is located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. It has a typical Mediterranean climate with long, hot, and dry summers and

relatively short, cool, and wet winters." The two seasons of Israel's

climate are, summer, and winter.

According to CIA world facts , Israel's climate can be described

as“temperate; hot and dry in

southern and eastern desert area”

Although Israel does not require any

immunizations, the are a couple, that are

recommended, and routine.RECOMMENDED:

Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Rabies

ROUTINE:

MMR(prevents measles, mumps, rubella)

DPT (protection against diphtheria, pertussis,

tetanus)

The Israeli school system considers early child hood development to be vital in children life. Every child is required to take three years of pre school where they establish social skills, cultural studies, and how to read and write in Arabic or

Hebrew.

According to the CIA world fact book Israel’s governmental structure is a “Parliamentary Democracy“ which is not quite; but some what similar to the United States government structure. Israel gained its independence on” 14 May1948 (from League of Nations mandate under British administration) “

Parliamentary Democracy is defined as “form of government in which the party (or a coalition of parties) with the greatest representation in the parliament (legislature) forms the government, its leader becoming prime minister or chancellor.”

Even though 911 will still connect you to emergency assistance in Israel, the actual emergency dial is 112.

Israel celebrate Independence day on May 14. “Note: the

Jewish calendar is lunar and the holiday may occur in April or

The Israeli weekend is Friday and Saturday; Sunday is a normal working dayIn Israel.

The first and last days of Passover (Pesach), Shavuot (Pentecost), Rosh Hashana (New Year) (two days), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and the first and last days of

Sukkot (Tabernacles) are holidays with banks, businesses and offices closed.

The name of the Israeli currency is Israeli New Sheqel.

Although modern medicine and vaccinations are found in Israeli medical facilities, majority of the hospital located there fall below international standards.

It is important to go over your health insurance plan before traveling to Israel. Some insurance policies do not comply with over seas facilities; some hospitals may require cash payment before being seen, and without insurance there is a possible the medical facility may not help you.

Israel is one of the worlds leading Internet using countries. Israel has 5 main internet service providers who

serve close to 5 million users. Israel also ranks number one in the world in hours

per users spent on the internet (57.5 hours per month)

telecommunications sector.16 Prior to the 1980s, the Israeli government controlled both

telecommunications regulation and operations. In 1984 those functions were split, and all

telecommunications facilities were transferred to Bezeq, a state-owned company”
