What is the purpose of the interview?
To meet 1:1 with an employer.
To learn more about the position.
To see if your skills and experience match what the employer is looking for.
To get the job!
Before the interviewResearch the position and agency
Demonstrates you are sincerely interested in the position.
Many questions will relate to the job and that particular office.
An employer wants someone who is knowledgeable about the position and office.
Your research of the company may help you develop questions.
Prepare list of some questions to be asked in interview.
Do not ask questions about wages, benefits, or vacation.
Before the interview
45% of the success of an interview depends on dress and appearance.
35% on facial responses. 10% on experience. 10% on miscellaneous.
The right outfit can seal the deal!
Dressing Sense
Be neat and clean from top to bottom.
Little or no perfume. Be conservative with
jewelry. Pay attention to color and
style. Blues, grays, blacks, and neutrals are best.
First impression count!
Be prompt. Arrive 15 minutes early.
Shake hands (before and after the interview).
Remain standing until you are asked to sit.
During the interview
Maintain your poise and posture. Don’t slouch, yawn, or display signs of nervousness.
Do not cross your arms.
Maintain eye contact.
Don’t smell of smoke or chew gum.
During the interview
Be truthful in describing your skills.
Don’t be on the defensive.
Don’t state any no’s or negatives. If you don’t know something, admit to it, but turn it into a positive by saying you are easily trained.
LISTEN. Don’t jump into the answer, listen to the question. Think about your answer, but avoid lengthy pauses.
Answering the questions
Speak with a feeling of confidence and enthusiasm. Speak distinctly. Don’t ramble.
Be able to give a continuous record of all your jobs, dates of employment, wages, the exact nature of your work and reasons you left.
React to the interviewer. Smile. Give your opinion or comment. Do not be a blank slate.
Express willingness and a desire to work hard and show that you get along with people.

Send a thank you letter as soon as possible after the interview.
