 The CloudBY: Percy Shelley

I bring fresh showers for the thirstingflowersFrom the seas and the streams;I bear light shade for the leaves when laid In their noonday dreams. From my wings are shaken the dews thatwaken The sweet buds every one,When rocked to rest on their mother'sbreast ,As she dances about the sun.I wield the flail of the lashing hail ,And whiten the green plains under,

And then again I dissolve it in rain,And laugh as I pass in thunder.

I sift the snow on the mountains below,And their great pines groan aghast; And all the night 'tis my pillow white,While I sleep in the arms of the blast.

Sublime on the towers of my skieybowers,Lightning, my pilot, sits;In a cavern under is fettered thethunder ,It struggles and howls at fits;

Over earth and ocean, with gentle motion, This pilot is guiding me,Lured by the love of the genii that moveIn the depths of the purple sea;Over the rills, and the crags, and the

hills,Over the lakes and the plains,Wherever he dream, under mountain orstream, The Spirit he loves remains; And I all the while bask in Heaven's bluesmile,

Whilst he is dissolving in rains.

Creating an effect onliterature …

Although internal rhymes

usually occur within the same line, like in the Shelley’s poem “TheCloud”, some great poets like tobreak the rules! They do this tocreate an even better effect..

The RavenBY: Edgar Allen Poe

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I ponderedeak and weary,er many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten

re,hile I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly thereme a tapping,

of some one gently rapping, rapping at myamber door.is some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at myamber door -

nly this, and nothing more.'

, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak ecember,d each separate dying ember wrought its ghost

on the floor.gerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought torrowom my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for thest Lenore -r the rare and radiant maiden whom the angelsmed Lenore -

ameless here for evermore.

d the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purplertain

`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at mychamber door -Some late visitor entreating entrance at mychamber door; -This it is, and nothing more,'

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitatingthen no longer,`Sir,' said I, `or Madam, truly your forgivenessI implore; But the fact is I was napping, and so gentlyyou came rapping,And so faintly you came tapping, tapping atmy chamber door,That I scarce was sure I heard you' - here I

opened wide the door; -Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stoodthere wondering, fearing,Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal everdared to dream before; But the silence was unbroken, and the

darkness gave no token,And the only word there spoken was thewhispered word, `Lenore!'

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,

That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpourNothing further then he uttered - not a feather then hefluttered -Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends haveflown before -On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flownbefore.'Then the bird said, `Nevermore.'
