Requirements to Proceed Internship The students who are eligible to apply for
internship Must Fulfill the following requirements
based on the results of Jan 2016 Trimester:
(1) CGPA ≥ 2.0
(2) GPA ≥ 2.0
(3) Total credit hours earned ≥ 60 hrs
The student who does not fulfil these UTAR
requirements CANNOT Proceed their industrial
training.
Students are NOT allowed to appeal from this
year onwards.
Requirements to Proceed Internship

Students are not allowed to conduct their
industrial training in their last trimester. If you
have to do so, please write an appeal letter to
Deputy Dean, Dr. Lai Soon Onn
([email protected]) to explain why you could not
conduct industrial training in the previous
trimesters, and your current study plan. Approval
is subject to your justification.

Industrial Training
Part of EAC requirements for accreditation.
Employers will expect you to demonstrate a range of
practical skills and soft skills as stated in Programme
Outcomes.
Therefore, you must know the required POs and
improve yourself accordingly.
Industrial Training is one of the means for the
University and the company to measure your
achievement of the POs.
Objectives
To apply acquired knowledge in problem based
exercises in real life industrial projects
To acquire practical skills and experience
working on projects alongside industry experts.
To acquire interpersonal skills and ability for
teamwork through interaction with professionals
in their field of study.
To learn ethics in the industry
To learn safety practices in the industry
Course Outcomes
On completion of this course, a student shall be able to:
apply knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
demonstrate in-depth technical competence in the specific
engineering discipline during the industrial training.
demonstrate problem identification and solving skill.
apply the relevant references, guidelines and code of ethics
related to engineering practices.
apply systems approach to design and evaluate operational

Resume and Interview There are plenty of resume template online! Download
one and modify it accordingly.
Prepare it properly, so that your strength and potential are
highlighted!
Important note: It is always important to customize your
resume depending on the nature of the company
business.
There are also plenty of interview skills and tips online.
Read through them carefully before you attend interview.

Overseas Internship1. Applicants can opt to undertake a period of internship at a
host institution local or overseas, provided approval is sought
at UTAR.
2. The duration of internship/ research can be one (1) trimester
or more; up to a maximum of one academic year.
3. Usually, there is no stipend or allowance for the duration of
the internship/ research at host institution. No tuition,
registration and administrative fees are charged unless stated
otherwise and agreed by both institutions.
4. Applicants are required to pay for their return airfare,
transport, meals, accommodation, books, stationery and other
living expenses during the internship at the host institution.

Application of Overseas Internship
Currently, there are overseas internship opportunities
in China for DIECS, DASD and DCI students and
Taiwan for DCL students.
The application form for internship can be obtained
from DCInterNet website at

Applications are subject to approval by both UTAR
and the selected host institution.

Application Process
Submit industrial placement form
Download this form, fill up and print it out and then submit it to the coordinator with your signature by
week 4 (Hardcopy).

You are required to apply the placement
by your own with assistance from
coordinator.

Submit document after get an offer
Submit the hardcopy of your offer letter/reply slip and letter of undertaking and indemnity (to utar by student) to coordinator for documentation purpose once you get your offer.
You are not allowed to change your training
company once you have submitted your document
to coordinator.
Check your status
Regularly check the list of student with training
company posted onto the departmental notice board. If there is any discrepancy, please contact coordinator
as soon as possible.
Pre-registration
You are required to register UEGE3114
Industrial Training during your pre-registration in
end of your May Trimester.
Training Details
3 months training period.
From 3rd Oct 2016 to 31st Dec 2016.
You will be visited by a Visiting Supervisor during
the training (tentatively from middle of Nov until
middle of Dec).
You need to download and print “Student Appraisal
Form” and “PEO&PO Survey Form” which are to be
filled by your Industrial Supervisor and submit to
your visiting lecturer.
Industrial Training Plan & Self-Assessment Form
To ensure both students and industry understand
the course outcomes of the Industrial Training, you
must discuss with your Industrial Supervisor on the
tasks assigned during your industrial training, then
fill up and submit “Industrial Training Plan & Self-
Assessment Form” to your coordinator within the
First Week of your industrial training.
By the end of your industrial training, you need to
self-assess your achievements to each task and state
the time spent to fulfill the course outcome. Submit
the form together with your report.
Important Note
Each student is encouraged to submit softcopy of
Weekly Logbook (same as the one you submit to
your Industrial Supervisor) to his/her Visiting
Lecturer during the industrial training, so that the
Visiting Lecturer is always updated of your work
and can provide immediate advice if necessary.
Attitude on Industrial Training Be punctual to work.
Positive, can-do attitude.
Put in efforts and interest in your work.
Try to learn as much as you can. (Remember that you not
only learn technical skills, but also soft skills)
Ask when you have inquiry.
Request for opportunity to involve in extra work. (We
always receive the comment from companies that our students
just follow the instruction)
Comply with the rules and regulations of the
company, especially on the safety aspect!
One of the Complaints from IndustryDear Mr. King,
I would like to express my impression on your previous student who working with us before i consider
your new student.
I would like to highlight some issue during their working period.
1. No time management, always LATE TO WORK.
2. NO DISCIPLINE, even they need to stop working, no resign letter, no call to inform management, no answering our call.
3. During working time, when any water leaking, not even try his solve the problem, ACT LIKE SENIOR waiting for foreign worker to handle it. some hard work like sweep water leaked beside machine also a very not willing task to them.
Honestly, as a technician or engineer, if when there is any accident happen, any issue occur, should be the 'knowledgeable' senior to guide what to do, if not the 'knowledgeable' also at least use their mouth to ask or show their body language willing to help as a them during their training period.
But we found VERY DISAPPOINT on our future generation, look like a stranger in our factory. I think without a proper trial & explanation before go to training is a WASTE OF PEOPLE EFFORT, and WASTE OF RESOURCES.
We do hope some optimitic & cheerful student to support us, but please interview them before you recommend to us, and we will NOT PAY them during this working period.
Safety and Health Precautions OSH is always the priority in any circumstance!
Learn and follow the OSH rules and regulations in the company.
Try not to:
Travel too often
Work alone
Always overtime
Expose yourself to any type of hazard
Report to the respective coordinator when:
You feel unsecured (frequent travel, working alone, frequent overtime, sex harassment, unreasonable request)
You feel unhealthy (no PPE, polluted working environment)
Assessment Report & Log Book – 60 %
Student Appraisal – 30 %
Oral Presentation – 10 %
Submit Report and Student Appraisal BY THE WEEK BEFORE JAN 2017 TRIMESTER START(must follow report guideline).
Oral Presentation will be on the FRIDAY OF THE WEEK BEFORE JAN 2017 TRIMESTER START.
Students will only be graded PASS or FAIL.
Not contributing to GPA.
Training Report & Log Book Follow the instruction given by the Industrial Report Writing
Guidelines available on the website.
Report not following the guidelines will be rejected.
You may write and type for the log book.
You have to record your log book daily and show it to your
Visiting Lecturer when he/she visits you during your training
period.
Summarize it weekly and attach to the back of your report as
attachment.
Marking scheme can be found in the Faculty Appendices on
the website!
Remarks Remember to register and pay the tuition fee for
industrial training.
Inform your Industrial Supervisor first if you have
any problem.
The approval of any leave during your industrial
training is subject to the company. You must inform
Industrial Coordinator of any approved leave.
Contact Industrial Coordinator if problem persists.

Problem of UTAR Portal Registration
If you encounter error in registration and the
error is because of the credit hours, please meet
your coordinator.
Make sure you check the UTAR portal in Oct
trimester to ensure that you have been registered
for UEGE3114 starting from week 3.
Summary of the Placement Procedures Register online through the link provided.
Fill up the industrial training placement form and
submit the hardcopy to coordinator.
Find your placement.
Submit offer letter/reply slip together with the “letter
of undertaking and indemnity (to UTAR by student)”
to coordinator in hardcopy.
Register UEGE3114 Industrial Training during the
Course Registration period and pay the tuition fee.
Report to your training company on time.
Summary of the Tasks during Training Discuss with your Industrial Supervisor and fill up
the “Industrial Training Plan & Self-assessment
Form” and submit the softcopy to coordinator within
the first week of industrial training.
Always write your logbook during your training
(Daily and Weekly logbook)
Get your company/industrial supervisor to fill up the
PEO& PO survey form (as this is for collecting
feedback for the program not to student)
Get your industrial supervisor to fill up the appraisal
form before the visiting lecturer visitation.
Summary of the Tasks during Training Complete your report one week before the Jan 2017
trimester commences.
You will have to submit your comb binding report in
the week before the Jan 2017 trimester start.
You have to present your industrial training
experience on the week before the Jan 2017 trimester
start.
Declaration
From time to time, the coordinator may update
you the latest details and process related to the
industrial training.
