Stroll along the narrow streets of Cusco’s old town, pause at an artisan‘s workshop, and join the curator for a tour of the cathedral, featuring a high altar made of solid silver. To visit the imperial city of Cusco, is to experience a magical world at the very heart of the Inca Empire. Here you will see impressive and enigmatic buildings constructed by cleverly carved stones that fit together with flawless precision, creating an ancient, yet at the same time almost futuristic architecture. From the city we visit the emblematic Inca Sanctuary; Machu Picchu‘s citadel. Next, we continue towards the fertile lands of the Sacred Valley, where we visit the Cyclopean ruins of old Inca temples and palaces, as well as the amazingly colourful indigeneous markets. We then continue our tour with a visit to four nearby ruins: Q’enqo, Pukapukara, Tambomachay and Saqsayhuaman. We later enjoy an evening dinner with a folkloric show.

Experience a journey from the hugely diverse Amazon basin to the magnificent Andean highlands of Peru. Discover the bio-diverse sanctuary of Tambopata National Reserve, which provides a variety of water and land adventures to introduce you into the wonders of the Southern Amazon rain forest; from taking a boat down the river to strolling under the forest canopy, spotting exotic birds, insects and wild animals, to the spectacular nature of the wilderness. Being transported from the Amazon to the Andes you will find yourself in Cusco; once the heart of the great Inca empire and today a fascinating blend of 16th century European architecture and the true legacy of the Incas. Away from the city you will visit the Sacred Valley; ringed by snow-capped peaks and still inhabited by the ancestors of those who built its many temples and palaces. Beyond the valley, Machu Picchu lies surrounded by tropical forests in which it remained hidden from the world and undiscovered for five centuries. From there you will head south to the sacred shores of Lake Titicaca, with its remote islands, living culture and fascinating archaeological remains. This is a truly memorable expedition.

day 17: aMaZon rainforesTThis morning we visit the Sachavacayoc Oxbow Lake searching for the resident family of five giant river otters. After a delicious locally prepared lunch, we visit a local farmer who cultivates many medicinal plants and other corps.
