For Pope Francis

Recently ISIS has targeted the Vatican and plans to harm the Pope!

We pray for the Holy Father that the heavenly Mother intercedes for him and protects him in his ministry. We invite our community to say this prayer for peace each day.

Dear Lord we pray for peace. Weep not for what you have lost, fight for what you have. Weep not for what is dead, fight for what was born in you. Weep not for the one who abandoned you, fight for who is with you. Weep not for those who hate you, fight for those who want you. Weep not for your past, fight for your present struggle. Weep not for your suffering, fight for your happiness. With things that are happening to us, we begin to learn that nothing is impossible to solve, just move forward.

Amen THE HOLY FATHER MAKES A REQUEST FOR PRAYERS THAT GOD PROTECTS HIM AND GIVES HIM FORCES TO MEET THIS DIFFICULT TASK.... SO BE IT!! The goal is to reach ten million Hail Mary's for Pope Francis. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Parent Information Session - Supporting Children with Asthma

On Tuesday we attended a talk by Pam Hicks from Latrobe Community Health Services about asthma. We found it be very informative and a good refresher for us.

It was good to see the different types of “puffers” available. We talked about the correct storage and cleaning of puffers and went over the correct technique to administer Ventolin.

We discussed the importance of having an up to date asthma plan and learnt these should be reviewed after each asthma attack. It is important to be aware of your child’s asthma triggers and to try as much as possible to minimise their exposure to the triggers.

Parents should ensure all caregivers are aware of their child’s asthma plan. It is important to ensure the school has a current plan and in date medication on hand.

Pam invited parents to contact her at LCHS for more information or alternatively to contact Asthma Australia. Adam & Christine Herben

A small sewer spill has been identified at St Mary’s Primary School in Newborough.

The sewer spill is affecting a small area of the school’s playground and was immediately blocked off

from students by school staff. Gippsland Water repair crews taped off the affected area upon their arrival and have begun cleaning and repairing the surrounding area to ensure student safety.

Clean-up works will continue until the area is deemed safe. We anticipate this will take approximately two weeks. Gippsland Water apologises for this inconvenience.

Cross Country

On Friday the 8th of May the following students went to the Western Valley Cross Country: Levi, Ayden, Miles, Paris, Imogen, Logan, Jack, Jesse, Cooper, Elli, Jazmyn and me Sam. We all went to Newborough East Primary School. The day was cold and windy but we did a warm up lap to warm us up. And we braved the weather. Students in in grade 3 and 4

Ran 2km, and grade 5 and 6 ran 3km. All kids were put into their age groups and ran their own race the best they could. It will be good to see more run-ners next year. By Sam

Congratulations to all of our children who recently participated in the 1500 metre running on Monday.

In class this week we have been learning about St Eugene de Mazenod. I have learnt that:

St Eugene de Mazenod was born in France, 1782.

St Eugene de Mazenod became a Priest in 1811.

St Eugene de Mazenod tried to help the young by showing God’s faith and love.

St Eugene de Mazenod began a new religious order of priests and lay brothers in 1826.

St Eugene de Mazenod called his new religious order Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

Bishop Ignace Bourget continued St Eugene de Mazenod to send seven of his members to him.

In 1837 St Eugene de Mazenod became Bishop of Marseilles.

Bishop de Mazenod special quote was “Working together for the faith of the Gospel.”

The year the Church was recognised was on October 19th, 1975.

He was officially canonized on December 3rd, 1995.

I feel like Father Harry and Father Matthew have taught me a lot about God and the love God shares with us all. I also feel blessed and spiritually welcome to the Catholic Life at my school.

The quote ‘strive towards a greater perfection’ means to me that I should never give up and that I should always try my best in everything I do.

‘Maths at Home’ Research shows that strengthening the partnership between school and home increases student’s chances of success in their education. At St Mary’s we encourage you, our parents to be active participants in your student’s learning. To further support you, our families, we are going to suggest a ‘maths at home’ activity on each newsletter. We hope to show that many of our day-to-day activities involve maths. We hope you have fun further exploring maths at home. A simple activity you may like to try is the following from www.math.com

Activity: Guess my Number.

Grades Prep to 6

Let your child think of a number between a stated range of numbers for example 1-100. You try and guess the number by asking questions (depending on child’s ability). Here is an example of a conversation you may have.

Child: I am thinking of a number between 1 and 50. Parent: Is it more than 50? Child: No. Parent: Is it an even number? Child: Yes. Parent: Is it more than 20 but less than 40? Child: Yes. Parent: Can you reach it by starting at zero and counting by 5's? Child: Yes. And so on….

After you have guessed your child's number, let your child guess a number and reverse the process.

You may also like to encourage your child to also use Mathletics at home. Each child has their own username and password which their teacher can provide them. Simply logon to the Mathletics website on your computer (www.mathletics.com.au) and sign in using their username and password.
