WE ARE THE CHURCH, TOGETHER
Page 3
Dear Parishioners,
Lent is a time to spend some time in prayer and meditation and be with the Lord Jesus Christ. Moreover, it also gives us an opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation and purify ourselves internally. Let us use this sacred time to prepare ourselves to celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Please consider joining in our Lenten speaker series on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the church to supple-ment your Lenten faith journey. Extend an invitation to your neighbor, friend or co-worker, family member or stranger to join in as well. This year we all need the grace and blessing of the Lenten season.
During this pandemic we did not have our regular every other month healing mass. On February 28, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. we are starting our regular healing mass again. I can say the world, every country, state, and local community needs tremendous healing. Every individual seeks healing in his or her life. We all are stressed out and live in fear. We have lost so many lives in this pandemic. Let us come together and expe-rience the healing power of Jesus.
Deacon Anwar Iqbal, who was assigned at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church to work with the Pakistani Community, passed away last Thursday, February 18, 2021. His funeral took place at Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Brooklyn. This is the church where he worked for the last several years as a sacristan and his wish was to be buried from that church. He was ordained as a Deacon in 2019 and served the com-munity for a short time. He was a good servant of the Lord as well as a very humble and prayerful person. Please kindly keep his family in your prayers. May his soul rest in peace.
Last week we heard about the Annual Catholic Appeal. I encourage each of you to kindly please participate in this appeal and make a difference in the lives of so many people who need our spiritual, moral and finan-cial support. Your pledge can help the charitable programs of the diocese and any money received over our goal comes back to our parish directly and can be used for our parish development and spiritual programs. Please be as generous as your means allow. Thanks and God bless you and your family and friends.

Opportunities to Help & Volunteer
“When I was hungry, you gave me to eat.” ( Mt. 25)
Our pantry is in need of non-perishable items such as: cereals, peanut butter, jelly, canned
vegetables, fruits, and soups, tuna fish, crackers, non-refrigerated milk (ex. Parmalat), etc.
Our Parish pledged to #WalkwithFrancis—donating
to the Food Pantry is a good way to walk.
Are You Aware?
It has been our experience at times that
some people may feel they are not able
to receive Communion due to divorce
or other personal issues. Often times,
there may be a misunderstanding
regarding Church Teaching in these matters. You are
encouraged to see Fr. Gill, Deacons Jim, John or Tony for
clarity so that you do not miss the opportunity to celebrate
the healing presence of Jesus in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation and in turn come to the Table of the Lord.

FAITH BOOK Second Sunday of Lent - February 28, 2021 Genesis 22:1-2, 9a, 10-13, 15-18; Psalm 116;
Romans 8:31b-34; Mark 9:2-10
From today’s Genesis reading: Jesus took Peter, James and John, and led them up a high mountain, apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them. Reflection: Today’s gospel presents a summary of the Christian life. The mountain experience is what we are doing today as we gather for worship and seek nourishment. While the valley symbolizes where we go after today’s celebration to live out our Christian vocation. The valley is the place of holiness where we take up the cross to follow Jesus in service to others.
So, we ask ourselves: • Have you ever had an experience that changed
your outlook on life for the good? • Did you see God’s hand in that experience?

LENTEN REGULATIONS
Once again, the celebration of Christ’s Passion
and Resurrection draws near. In our preparation
for Easter, the Church invites us to observe the
penitential and grace-filled season of Lent and
draws our attention to the following: • Abstinence—All the faithful who have
reached 14 years of age are required to abstain
totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and the
Fridays of Lent. • Fasting—All the faithful between the ages of
18 and 59 inclusive are bound to fast on Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday. This practice
involves limiting oneself to a single full meal
and avoiding food between meals. Light sus-
tenance may also be taken on two other occa-
sions during the day. • Reconciliation Monday—March 29th is re-
served for Reconciliation Monday to allow the
faithful the opportunity to experience God’s
mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Af-
ter having reached the age of discretion, mem-
bers of the faithful are bound to confess once a
year grave sins which have not already been
absolved. Details regarding the schedule for
this day will be provided in the coming weeks.

2021 Annual Catholic
Appeal Prayer
God and Father of all gifts, we
praise you, the source of all who
we are. Teach us to acknowledge
always with generous gratitude
the many good things your
infinite love has given us, as
together we support the work of
the Church in Brooklyn and
Queens.
Open our hearts that we may an-
swer your call to follow the mes-
sage of the Gospel as disciples in
love and service, so that all may
come to know You by the
example of our faith and good
works.
We ask this through our Lord
Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen
