igcse gr.9 art- diary cover

3
Diary cover process: 1. My first step to making the design started with research and brainstorm. I came across a few artists that caught my eyes. Alexander Calder was one of them. I really enjoy looking at his art works, which were simple and used many colors. So I decided to incorporate that into my design. Okamoto Taro was another artist that I like. His artwork is very power and yet again uses many catchy colors. From observing his pieces I decided to make a more modern dragon then a traditional style. So using ideas from Okamoto Taro’s koinobori. 2. For this design I did not you a rough copy to trace from, instead I used a method of trial and error to figure out what looked the best. The shapes were made from looking at traditional dragons and changing it into a more modern look. 3. Then I tried a few different styles to see which one look the best. 4. Next I made the body. Yet again I tried a few different bodies. First body on the left side look a bit like the islands of Japan so I decided to make part of the dragons body the islands of japan.

Diary cover process: 1. My first step to making the design started with research and brainstorm. I

came across a few artists that caught my eyes.

5. Next I drew hands and since this was a design for yis I decided to make it hold the emblem of this school. However this was to plain so I add the view of Minato Mirai, since it reflected the city of Yokohama.

6. In order draw this I got several sample picture from google and them traced them in a simple form. However this was not enough so I add a gradient back drop.

Final design: see back.
