As I have previously mentioned, this was a showcase of everyday at Crookwell High School, not just special Education Week events. A huge thank you to Mrs Dark for posting all the photos and stories, and to the staff who chronicled the daily events. Thank you also to Mrs Raglus for the excellent job she does in compiling this newsletter, especially this bumper edition. Thank you to parents who completed our feedback survey, either at Parent Teacher interviews or via Facebook. It is very important for us to get parent feedback on how we are performing and what we can do to improve. We are only as good as the feedback we get. A reminder to parents that we welcome you contacting the school to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Often, this is the only way we can find out about our community’s needs and hopes for the school. A number of our students and staff were involved in the GCoPS concert last week, and I was a very proud Principal watching our students compere, perform and support the fantastic show. The breadth of talent in our students is awesome, and the willingness to put themselves under pressure and perform is admirable. A huge thank you to Mrs Woolley for her amazing coordination of the event and to the wonderful staff and parents who helped make the event so successful. Next week starts the process of subject selection for students currently in Years 8 and 10 with our Subject Selection Evening. This will take place in our school hall on Tuesday 20th of August at 5.30pm to 6.30pm for Year 8, and 7.00pm to 8.00pm for Year 10. These evenings are very important as they allow students and parents to find out about choosing electives, and the impact of those choices on future studies and careers. Both sessions will operate in the same way. A brief outline and introduction of the structure of the next two years at school and the impact of the program of study, followed by time to speak to staff individually about particular subject and the suitability of that subject to individual student pathways. Most teachers are able to attend that night, and it would be wonderful to see as many parents and students there as possible. On the night, students and parents will be shown how to enter their subject choices online as they will all be due by the end of that week. On assembly this week, we congratulated Oti Trigas for his outstanding effort representing Australia in Spain in the Freestyle Kayaking World Championships. Oti placed 31st in the world for his division. An amazing achievement! We also recognised Levi Woods who will be competing in the State Athletics in hurdles. Considering he only started competing in hurdles this year, it is a fantastic achievement. Good luck Levi! Our debaters were presented with certificates for placing second in our zone. Congratulations and thank you to Dr Bollen for her support. Introducing Ms Jennifer Bollen

I am excited to be starting at Crookwell High this term. I have been teaching in the Goulburn area for the last 20 years and was thrilled to be appointed to Crookwell. My teaching subjects are English and Languages - French and German. My Year 7 French classes have been very receptive to learning a new language. Ask them to introduce themselves to you in French!

As well as an interest in languages, I am a keen gardener, traveller and beekeeper.

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome to the Crookwell High community.

Minimum Standards Testing

Students completing Year 12 in 2020 or after are now required to show they possess minimum standard skills in Literacy and Numeracy. This is demonstrated by completing online tests designed by the NSW Department of Education. Testing commences in Year 10, and students have numerous opportunities to resit the tests if required. Crookwell High School will be conducting Minimum Standard Testing during for Years 11 and 10 during weeks 4, 5 and 6. Eligible students will sit practice tests in Numeracy, Reading and Writing, with actual testing taking place during the same time span.

If you have any questions regarding Minimum Standard Testing, please contact me at the school.

MACBETH @ THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

Crookwell High School started Education Week with a fantastic trip to see the Shakesperean play, ‘Macbeth’ at the Sydney Opera House. Year 10 are currently studying Macbeth in English. Students from Year 10 and some from Year 11 had front and second row seats for the Scottish play which incorporated haunting projected images and clever stage craft to tell the story of the downfall of the ambitious Macbeth and his wife.

We wish to thank the BJCE Windfarm who made this cultural journey possible by subsidising our travel costs. Rebecca McCormack and Jenny Bollen Year 10 English Teachers

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY WORKSHOP

CAREERS EXPO Senior students spent a day at a careers expo in Canberra. Lots of industry representatives and course providers were there for students to chat with to gain insight into future opportunities for students.

Chris Wilson Careers Advisor

At the beginning of the term, eight of our Aboriginal students worked with Margaret Acunzo from Queanbeyan and Julie Streetsmith from Warilla to compose an Acknowledgement of Country that will reflect the Crookwell High School community. These workshops will continue in coming weeks as our students shape an acknowledgement that will be meaningful to our student body.
