Holy Family Parishioners:
This week’s gospel shares with us some of the most
recognizable language from scripture, “I am the bread
of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and
whoever believes in me will never thirst.” To a young
adult learning his/her independence, it seems
contradictory to be told that it is okay to depend on
someone. More than being told it is okay, it is
encouraged. It is something we are meant to do,
completely place our dependance in God. But how?
And where do I start?
Young adulthood can be tricky to navigate.
Some of the most stressfully ranked life situations
happen in these years—first job, first house, marriage,
children are just to name a few. Throughout these life
situations, there are some tools we can use to navigate
them better. Surrounding ourselves with family and
friends, and placing our full dependence in God are just
two examples.
Imagine having a group of peers who are going
through some of the same obstacles as you. Better
than that, imagine that those peers want to build
relationships and want to be your friend. And even
better, those same people share the same faith as you
and are working at placing their trust and dependance
in God too. Together, the group can build a safe place
to talk, pray, and build relationships with fellow young
adults right here within Holy Family Parish.
Now let me tell you… you aren’t alone, and this
group does exist! We are here within the community,
and we want to learn who you are. We have several
different young adult programming opportunities such
as Pub Theology, Scripture Study, Playground Days,
and more throughout the year! There are no
expectations and no time commitments you need to
make. All you need is openness to experience the
ministry and find a program that meets your interests.
If we don’t have something offered that you like, please
email me and let me know and together we can make it
happen! Even better, bring your suggestions on
Wednesday, August 4 at 7:00PM. We will be having a
Young Adult Summer Bonfire at St. Januarius Pavilion.
We will have food, smores for dessert, and some
outside lawn games. It is a BYOB and a chair! This is
a great opportunity to casually come see what the
ministry is all about and meet some of the other young
adults who are already coming. Even if you are
heading back to college at the end of the month, come
anyway! We are still your parish and still want to build
a relationship with you. Young adult ministry never
takes a break, programming is year-round. So,
whenever you are home, you are always invited to stop
in and say hello!
I can’t wait to sit around the bonfire and get to
know you! Please invite your friends, even if they may
not be Catholic, we never turn anyone away. See you
in August!
Your Sister in Christ,
Steph Williams

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
READING 1 EX 16:2-4, 12-15
The whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and
Aaron. The Israelites said to them, “Would that we had died at
the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt, as we sat by our
fleshpots and ate our fill of bread! But you had to lead us into
this desert to make the whole community die of famine!”
Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will now rain down bread
from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and
gather their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether
they follow my instructions or not.
“I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them: In the
evening twilight you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you
shall have your fill of bread, so that you may know that I, the
LORD, am your God.”
In the evening quail came up and covered the camp. In the
morning a dew lay all about the camp, and when the dew
evaporated, there on the surface of the desert were fine
flakes like hoarfrost on the ground. On seeing it, the Israelites
asked one another, “What is this?” for they did not know what
it was. But Moses told them, “This is the bread that the LORD
has given you to eat.”
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 78:3-4, 23-24, 25, 54
R. The Lord gave them bread from heaven.
What we have heard and know, and what our fathers have de-
clared to us, we will declare to the generation to come the glori-
ous deeds of the Lord and his strength and the wonders that he
wrought.
R. The Lord gave them bread from heaven.
He commanded the skies above and opened the doors of heav-
en; he rained manna upon them for food and gave them heavenly
bread.
R. The Lord gave them bread from heaven.
Man ate the bread of angels, food he sent them in abundance.
And he brought them to his holy land, to the mountains his right
hand had won.
R. The Lord gave them bread from heaven.
READING 2 EPH 4:17, 20-24
Brothers and sisters: I declare and testify in the Lord that you
must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their
minds; that is not how you learned Christ, assuming that you
have heard of him and were taught in him, as truth is in
Jesus, that you should put away the old self of your former
way of life, corrupted through deceitful desires, and be
renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self,
created in God’s way in righteousness and holiness of truth.
MT 4:4B
R. Alleluia, alleluia
One does not live on bread alone, but by every word that
comes forth from the mouth of God.
R. Alleluia, alleluia
GOSPEL JN 6:24-35
When the crow saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were
there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum
looking for Jesus. And when they found him across the sea they
said to him “Rabbi, when did you get here?” Jesus answered
them and said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me
not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and
were filled. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food
that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.
For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.” So they said to
him, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?” Jesus
answered and said to them, :This is the word of God, that you
believe in the one he sent.” So they said to him, “What sign can
you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do?
Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: He gave
them bread from heaven to eat.” So Jesus said to them, “Amen,
amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from
heaven, my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For
the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and
gives life to the world.”
So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said
to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never
hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”

tas.

Jesus waits for you in the Blessed Sacrament – Come, spend an Hour with Him.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
“Gaze upon him, consider him, contemplate him, as you desire to imitate him”.
- St Clare of Assisi
Holy Family Parish will have our “First Week” Eucharistic Adoration, Monday, August 2
nd
– Friday, August
6
th
. We are seeking faithful Adorers to sign-up and spend an hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Our ability to provide these opportunities and grow this devotion depends on the active participation and willingness of our
parishioners to fill in the schedule, so someone is always present, when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed. As an extension of
the Liturgy, this is a time to meditate more deeply on the mystery and adore Jesus in the ultimate Sacrament of Love.
We will also have a Family and Children’s Holy Hour at Our Lady of Joy on Thursday, Aug 5
th
from 11:00AM-12:00PM. During
this time, families are encouraged to stop in with their little ones to experience the Real Presence of Christ, without the pressure
of silence.
Please note that we are now using Flocknote for sign-ups. You may utilize the following links to volunteer for a Holy Hour. To
receive future Flocknotes regarding Eucharistic Adoration, please log into Flocknote, and subscribe to the group “Holy Hour and
Adoration Times”.

HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
Studies have shown that starting the school year with the necessary school supplies
promotes learning, boosts self-esteem, and helps keep kids in school. Some families
struggle with how they will be able to purchase all the necessary items. Lower income
kids have many hurdles to overcome. Working hard and staying in school offer a
glimmer of hope for a better future. But staying in school can be challenging without the
right materials.
The Holy Family Ladies of Charity are collecting school supplies to help children in our
community get ready for the new school year. This will include Plum, Penn Hills,
Riverview and Holy Family schools. Donations of new school supplies will be accepted
in the School House bins at the church entrances through August 15th.

Dear Parishioners:
In our annual financial
report this year, we are
showing last year’s report
side by side with this year
and also our budgeted
projection for next year.
While this has been a
historic year for every
organization, ours was
even more historic in that
we merged five parishes.
This is the first annual
financial report as Holy
Family Parish, compared
to last year’s report that
was five separate
parishes. What this
shows is that we are
financially healthy and
church attendance and
contributions continue to
grow as more and more
people are returning
from pandemic concerns.
As a reminder, we have
no plans to close any of
our churches and the
Diocese has made it
very clear this is a
parish decision to
initiate. In fact, our goal
is to fill our churches
with disciples who are
alive in their faith and
anxious to worship our
God each week with His
Holy Family. Because
we received more funds
that were budgeted last
year, due in large part to
PPP loans, you know we were able to upgrade sound and video improvements for both livestream viewers and people
attending Mass in person at three of our churches (STI, SJV, OLOJ). We established our youth and young adult center, with
RCIA also, at SJAN. The parking lot expansion and reconfiguration is taking place at SJB. We will continue to make
improvements in our churches and ministries as we are able to with the resources you provide. One clarification to point out
on the financial report is that the subsidy for the young adult position concluded in 2020-2021 year, so our Engagement
Ministries Endowment will begin generating Interest Income revenue in the 2021-2022 year. If there are any questions about
this year’s report, please contact Dave Hall, our Business Manager.
Thanks to all of you for your generosity for our Holy Family Parish.
In Christ’s love, Father Kevin

Living Jesus Prayer
Heavenly Father, pour forth your Holy Spirit to inspire us with words from Holy
Scripture. Stir in our souls the desire to renew our faith and deepen our
relationship with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ so that we might truly believe
in and live the Good News. Open our hearts to hear the Gospel and grant us
the confidence to proclaim the Good News to others. Pour out your Spirit, so
that we might be strengthened to deepen our faith, grow in confidence to
proclaim the Gospel, and boldly witness to the saving grace of Your Son,
Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
