STEPHEN MINISTRY "For He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. That is why He is not ashamed to call them brethren..." ~ Hebrews 2:11

One of the difficult things that many of us struggle with during our lives may be knowing how very much we are loved. If we are having a hard time getting through an emotional problem, it seems that self-criticism is more common than any thoughts of love! If you find yourself in that situation, and can't seem to get through a prob-lem, consider calling the Stephen Ministry at 739-0230, ext.130, and leave a confidential message. Confidential, care-filled listening while remaining non-judgmental, are the key aspects of this ministry.

A NOTE FROM FR. BOB

Dear Friends,

Grace and peace to you!

Carnival Update: Thanks to everyone for your support of our annual Carnival! As you know, the weather can have quite an impact on the financial results. Gratefully, however, due to your generosity and the hard work of so many people, our Carnival was a success! This year we raised $44,314.00 for the parish! Thank you all!

AED: What is an AED? An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia, and is able to treat them through defibril-lation, the application of electricity which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. Thanks to the support of our Holy Spirit Ladies Club, we will be installing two AEDs. One will be in the Gathering Area and the other in the lobby of the Gym. Training for key volunteers and staff in the use of these devices will take place shortly. However, they are designed so that anyone can use them if necessary. Hopefully, we will never need to use these but in the event we do, they will be readily available.

Priests Convocation: This week Father Jerry and I will be away at the quadrennial Priests Convocation for all the priests of the Archdiocese in the Lake of the Ozarks. While we are away we will have a daily Communion Service in place of the Mass from Tuesday through Friday. The service will be at 6:30 am on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 8:00 am on Thurs-day and Friday. We will not have Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesday. Most parishes will be in the same situation and will be offering Communion Services. However, there are a few that will have Mass available. Locally, St. John Bosco Parish will offer daily Mass at 7:00 am. Please pray for us while we are away. We will be praying for you.

Communion for the Homebound: This past week, with the assistance of our Pastoral Asso-ciate, Karen Rychlewski, I began a program to visit all the homebound of our parish four times a year. It has been my hope for quite some time to have regular visits to all the homebound of our parish. These visits will give me the opportunity to supplement the vis-its many of our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion make on a weekly basis by of-fering the opportunity for the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacra-ment of the Anointing of the Sick to our homebound parishioners. It seems to me that there are many who are in need of a visit. If you or your family member would like a visit, please give me or Karen Rychlewski a call so that we can set up a time. Let’s pray for all our brothers and sisters who are homebound.

Let’s also pray for each other this week.

Peace, Father Bob

BOXES OF JOY

Every year, thousands of poor children experience a Christmas without hope. Burdened by poverty, their parents are simply too poor to provide anything

but the most basic necessities. These are children who have NEVER held a picture book.

NEVER worn a new shirt. NEVER owned a toy.

Box of Joy makes it easy to help a child in need.

Boxes of Joy Options

1. PACK A BOX OF JOY Boxes & donation materials will be available in the Parish Hall for parishioners who want to participate starting October 13 & 14th. Boxes are in limited supply. We will collect filled boxes the weekend of November 3 & 4 in the Par-ish Hall. (Families in PSR and Full Time School will have the opportunity to participate through their programs.)

2. SHIPPING DONATIONS Sometimes families can not afford to include the $9 shipping costs. If you would like to contribute the $9.00, we will match it with a box that does not have the shipping fees. Please write a check to Cross Catholic Outreach

Place your $9 donation (check or cash) in an envelope (and turn in to the Parish Office) ·Please write the name of the participating parish, school or group on the check or envelope

HOW TO Include $9 for shipping and ministry: Option 1: envelope in GIFT box

Place your $9 donation in envelope attached to brochure or any marked envelope  Please write the name of the participating parish, school or group on the check or envelope  Place envelope on top of gifts and close lid

Option 2: Online payment of shipping costs Select below the number of boxes you have prepared Consider sponsoring additional shipments Donate securely with credit card or Paypal Print receipt, place it on top of gifts and close lid

http://www.crosscatholic.org/pages/page.asp?page_id=361566

AFTER CHOOSING OPTION 1 OR 2: Secure lid to shoebox with rubber band or string (Do NOT tape please) Bring your box(es) to the Parish Hall before or after Masses, November 3 & 4, 2018.

3. CREATE-A-BOX ONLINE “Create-a-Box Online” is a program designed for a “Family on the Run” who wants to participate, but is unable to shop and pack boxes themselves. It is an opportunity to help a child overseas and conveniently allows you to “Pack and Pay” online. Simply select a gender and age group pay for the gifts and shipment of the box, and we’ll do the rest! Our team will receive your order, pack the Box of Joy with items such as; toys, school supplies, candy, creative activity items, hygiene items and clothing, and then we will ship it on your behalf.

The cost per Create A Box Online is $25 per box, plus $9 shipping. (A total of $34 per Create A Box). Out of your $9.00 shipping fee, $7.00 will cover the cost of shipping your Box of Joy overseas and the remaining $2.00 help fund the projects of Catholic ministries to provide much needed housing, clean water sources, education, medical attention, etc....

AROUND TOWN DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE! –

THE POWER OF MARRIAGE FOR EVANGELIZATION

Both the First Reading and the Gospel today illuminate the beauty of the Sacrament of Matrimony that God calls many people to in this life. Living the vocation of mar-riage well is central to evangelization. I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine who lives in New Hampshire. She and her husband have raised 7 children over the years and they are extremely devout Catholics. As we talked, we mentioned the simple but profound truth: the vocation of marriage lived out with selfless love for one’s spouse and children is a radiant testa-ment to the love that Christ has for His Bride, the Church. How necessary it is for parents to foster disciple-ship and a knowledge of the faith in themselves and subsequently, to hand it on to their children. Today, many couples seem to feel a need to justify their voca-tion of marriage by forming a particular ministry or apos-tolate. If God has placed this desire on your heart, then certainly follow it, but it is NOT necessary for all. In this confused age in which we live, laying down your life for your spouse and children is a phenomenal witness to the love of God and can attract people to strive for holi-ness in their own lives and marriages. It is an excellent reminder of the need to strengthen spousal ties and family ties in order to provide essential moral teaching for your children and to prepare them to become saints.

SOCIAL JUSTICE GIVING WITNESS

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops usual-ly publish a statement on political responsibility every four years. Their concern is for us to be aware of Catholic social teachings based on the Gospel values of justice, dignity and the common good for all humanity. We believe in policies that respect all stages o flife, to provide the necessary means to access basic needs for all the people. This is basic to our nation’s founding doc-uments. Now is a good time to reflect on how far we have come and how far we still need to go to be respon-sible citizens in a democratic society. Would you sign the following pledge…

“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, in-sure domestic tranquility, provide for the com-mon defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Consti-tution for the United States of America.”
