PARISH EVENTS & NEWS – THIS WEEK
LETTER FROM FR. TOM: In the Church calendar, did you
ever wonder what holiday is the most important? Many
people think it is Christmas because that is the day
everyone goes to church and everyone celebrates in a big
way. Yes, Christmas is important, but the most important
holiday is Easter, and next is Pentecost. This may surprise
many people because often they don’t even know what
Pentecost is about. This weekend we are celebrating one
of the most important Solemnities of our Church! We are
celebrating Pentecost. Let’s explore what Pentecost is all
about.
Fifty days after Easter, Mary and the apostles were
praying in the upper room when there was a great and
mighty wind, and the Holy Spirit descended upon them like
tongues of flame. We are celebrating the Holy Spirit
coming upon the Church. This is when the sacraments
received their power to give sanctifying grace. Easter, the
Resurrection, saved us from sin, death, and Satan. The
Holy Spirit is not saving us from something, but rather
saving us for something. It is the Holy Spirit who unites us
to Jesus Christ. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us the Gifts
that we are to use for building the kingdom of God. It is the
Holy Spirit who fills us with God’s grace and divine love to
make us into children of God. Where Easter saves us from
sin, Pentecost gives us our mission to change the world. It
re-creates us in the order of Grace.
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost. After
Easter, this is the most important day in the Christian
calendar. I hope you will celebrate it with your families with
great joy and festivities. Have a meal, play music, gather
with family (but be safe) and recognize that God is still
working within every Christian and working within his
Church. Peace, Fr. Tom Pomeroy

the Faith Formation program.
Lord, We thank you for sending us this group of
talented individuals who boldly proclaim their faith to
your flock. They willingly gave their time in service to
you without counting the cost. We ask you to protect
them and guide them wherever they journey this
