MISSION STATEMENT
We CELEBRATE the Gospel when we encounter Jesus Christ in the Sacraments and through prayer.
We TEACH the Gospel in order to strengthen each family in their knowledge of and in their relationship with God.
We LIVE the Gospel by seeking justice, granting forgiveness and through works of service which enhance the spiritual, emotional, social and physical well-being of the entire community.

For Christians, Easter is the greatest feast of all. This is the day Jesus, our Brother, broke the chains of death and rose in triumph from the grave. This is truly the “Day of the Lord”. But it is our day too, for Jesus shares with us the fruits of his victory. Let us open our hearts to the joy of this great day.
First Reading (Ac 10:34a,37-43) This part of an early sermon from Peter. Second Reading (Cl 3:1-4) Through our Baptism we already share in the risen life of Christ, though in a hidden and mysterious way.
Gospel (Jn 20:1-9) On discovering that Jesus’ tomb is empty, the disciples begin to grasp what the Scriptures had foretold, namely, that he would rise from the dead.
Scripture Note
The reading from Acts is part of an early sermon from Peter. In it he summarizes the ministry of Jesus, which culminated in his death. But it didn’t end there; God raised him to life, allowing him to be seen by certain witnesses, Peter among them. He goes on to declare that Jesus is the one all the prophets spoke about (the Messiah). All who believe in him will have their sins forgiven. The Gospel tells about the discovery of the empty tomb. The empty tomb, with the discard linen cloths, in itself is not direct proof of the resurrection. Nevertheless, it was the first step in establishing the truth that Jesus had escaped the bonds of death and prepared the disciples to encounter the Risen Lord. Many readings in the Easter cycle instruct the newly baptized on the Christian way of life. Today’s Second Reading and its alternative are good examples. Thus the Easter season provides us with an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be baptized members of Christ’s Body.

Celebration of the Sacraments
“The purpose of the sacraments is to sanctify men, to build up the Body of Christ and, finally, to give worship to God. Because they are signs, they also instruct. They not only presuppose faith, but by words and objects they also nourish, strengthen and express it. That is why they are called ‘sacraments of faith’.”
— Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1123 Eucharist Saturday Vigil Masses: 4:00 PM (Nov-Apr), 5:30 PM
Sunday Masses: 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:45 AM, 12:15 PM
Daily Masses: Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM Monday through Friday 12:15 PM Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Saturday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sunday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM Baptism Requesting the Sacrament of Baptism for a child involves a serious obligation and a faith commitment on the part of both parents. To prepare both parents for this task, they will be requested to attend a Baptismal Preparation prior to the Baptism. To register, call the Parish Office (231-0671). Typically the Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of each month, however, if that is not suitable other arrangements can be made. A date for Baptism cannot be scheduled until the necessary preparation has been completed. Parents are encouraged to begin preparation prior to the birth of their child. Confirmation Candidates are those already baptized and who have received the necessary formation in religious education. Candidates must be at least in the 9th grade to receive this Sacrament. Reconciliation The Sacrament is celebrated each Saturday 11:00 AM -12:00 Noon. Anointing of the Sick The Sacrament is administered on request to those who are ill at home, in the hospital or nursing home. Please call the Parish Office (231-0671). It also is administered on the First Saturday of every month after the 8:00 AM Mass. Matrimony Congratulations on your engagement. Call the Parish Office (231-0671) to make arrangements at least six months in advance. It is necessary that either the prospective bride, groom or their family are registered members of Holy Cross Parish. Holy Orders If you feel you may have a vocation to serve the people of God in the Priesthood of Jesus Christ, contact Fr. Brian Lehnart at the Diocesan Vocation Office (561-775-9555) or speak to one of the parish priests.

Dear Parishioners,
Today, we look back to that first Easter Sunday when Christ, victorious over death, rose from the tomb. We remind ourselves that his victory over death had implications not only for his own death, but for ours as well. We already share the life of the Risen Lord through Baptism and we hope one day to see him face to face in risen glory. Easter brings us this message of hope. May the celebration of Christ’s resurrection and the entire Easter season be full of hope for you along with it being a special spiritual experience. On behalf of the priests and the parish staff, we wish all parishioners and their fami-lies a Happy Easter!
Sincerely,
Rev. Richard Murphy
The Knights, Dames and Auxiliary of the Order of Malta will attend the 8:00 AM Mass on Friday, April 6, followed by a gathering in the Church Annex for discussion on the Annual Lourdes Pilgrimage.
Holy Cross Church will hold its annual Parish Picnic on Sunday, April 8 from 1:30 to 5:00 PM in the parking lot. Enjoy 14 Bones barbeque, beverages, bounce houses, rock
climbing, games and music by a DJ, and a brief performance by the Vero Beach High School Jazz Band. Tables and chairs will be provided. The picnic is at no cost. This is an opportunity to show appreciation to all our parishioners for their generous giving of time, talent, and treasure.
The Sacrament of the Sick, like any of the other Sacraments, is an encounter with Jesus Christ which confers grace. There is a two-fold effect for the recipient: Remission of sin Strengthening the recipient with courage and peace
of mind to endure whatever sufferings are caused by sickness or old age
The Sacrament is very much a Sacrament of the living. With that in mind, we administer the Sacrament on the 1st Saturday of each month , the next being on Saturday, April 7, during the 8:00 AM Mass. The Sacrament can also be received by request, outside of that time. This Sacrament should never be looked upon as the Last Rites, if so, the recipient or their caregiver will wait for the last minute to notify the Church and it then becomes an unnecessary emergency for everyone involved, including the priest. In such cases, the graces of the Sacrament are very limited.
Alumnae of the Sacred Heart
Treasure Coast Alumnae of the Sacred Heart will gather at the 12:15 PM Mass in the Church on Friday, April 6, with a luncheon to follow after Mass. Contact Janet Kerney at 1-267-342-2756 for more information.
Fr. Jim’s Easter Week Reflection
Fr. Jim Brucz, CSP, will conclude his reflection on the Gospel of John on
Wednesday, April 4, after the 8:00 AM Mass. The theme will be “the Risen Christ as the giver of eternal life.”
Dinner, Dancing and Great Music by the Sea!
The Holy Cross Women’s Guild is hosting this year’s Italian Night at the Grand Harbor Beach Club, 8500 A1A. All parish members are invited to attend this fun filled night on Thursday, April 19, 2018 beginning at 6:00 PM. The Grand Harbor chef will delight with an exciting Italian menu. There will be a cash bar and music provided by Paul McCall’s Jazz Ensemble. Parishioners can reserve tables of any size. Tickets are $30.00 per person and are available at the Parish Office. They will be sold after all Masses on the weekend of April 7.

WE ARE STEWARDS . . .
and this is how we live out our stewardship! Our lives are patterned after that of Jesus. As He did, we must go through the mystery of death. Through faith and stewardship, we know that it will result in a glorious life with Christ.
Treasure - Due to the Easter Holiday, the printing of this bulletin took place before the collection of March 24/25 could be recorded, therefore the offertory for that weekend will appear in next week’s bulletin.
May God bless and reward your stewardship.

Grieving is individual and yet, as the people of God, we journey with one another on the path to healing. In order not to feel alone in this experience, we gather together and share our pain
of loss. Through scripture, prayer and bereavement resources we begin to understand our grief and begin the process of healing and to minister to one another to help live without the one we lost. Over the course of the year, the group meets for sessions that run for five weeks, to take place on Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Annex of the Church. After one five week session concludes, there is a break and the next group begins. Our next session will begin on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM. For more information, please contact Deacon Richard Blake or Lori Humenik, Family Life Coordinator at the Parish Office 231-0671.
