BSPD surge protective devices

Delivers reliable surge protection with high surge current capacity for system switchboards and power distribution panels.

Product description:

The Bussmann™ series BSPD Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) help protect electrical and electronic equipment from overvoltage surges. What’s more, they enable compliance with 2014 NEC® 700.8 that requires a listed SPD to be installed in or on all emergency system switchboards and panelboards.

The RoHS compliant BSPD uses thermally protected Bussmann SurgePOD™ technology to safely shunt overvoltages to ground while its thermal disconnect capability eliminates the need for additional fusing.

Features and benefits:

• 120kA to 400kA surge current capacity ratings (Imax) meet the requirements of larger switchboards and electrical panels.

• UL maximum 20kA nominal discharge current rating (In) and 200kA Short-Circuit Current Rating (SCCR) meet most system requirements.

• easyID™ LED status indicators provide surge protection at a glance.

• Available Form C contact, EMI/RFI filtering and surge counter options to meet specific application requirements.

Value features:

All BSPD units are UL Listed 1449 4th Edition SPDs with Bussmann’s SurgePOD™ thermally protected MOV technology that delivers reliable surge protection with high surge current capacity.

Every BSPD unit is factory sealed to enhance safety by preventing access to energized parts, and eliminate arc flash and shock hazards.

All units are prewired with a conduit interface — just make conduit runs, mount the unit and make all wire connections.

They are available in NEMA 1 and 4X enclosures that are up to 50% smaller than other products with comparable ratings.

Enhanced protection status indication is provided by green and red LEDs that show the true surge protection status on a phase, not the power status on the phase. This is more reliable and accurate than many surge protective devices that only have single color indicators that simply show if power is applied to a phase, not the protection status on the phase.

There are also green and red LED indicators for Wye units to show the N-G mode surge protection status.

Three configurations:

• Basic• Cost-effective solution• This Type 1 SPD can be

installed on the lineside or loadside of the service entrance panel overcurrent protective device

• Standard• This Type 2 SPD can be

installed anywhere on the loadside of the service entrance panel overcurrent protective device

• Audible alarm with silence button

• EMI/RFI filtering for up to 50dB of noise attenuation from 10 kHz to 100 MHz

• Form C contact relay for easy integration into a remote monitoring system

• Standard with surge counter• Everything the Standard con-

figuration has, plus a six-digit surge counter (held in battery-free nonvolatile memory) with reset button
