It is exciting to see how they have quickly settled into the routines of school and have established firm friendships in their year level. This week the Prep students have another ‘first’ experience of school as they begin their swimming program. This enables the students to develop skills of organization and independence. Congratulations to the Year One students who completed their swimming program on Friday I heard fantastic feedback about the standard of behaviour at the pool and how engaged everyone one was in the lessons. Ready, Set, Go! This week we begin our transition program for 2020. It’s hard to believe that ‘Ready, Set, Go’ is already here! We will be welcoming approximately 80 kinder students into the Prep Learning Community over the next three Fridays. It is lovely to see how excited the children are as they begin their first experiences of ‘big school’! Parent Teacher Meetings Next week you will receive a link via email to alert you to book in for a Parent Teacher Meeting time during the week of 12 16 August. As you are aware, we have slightly adjusted the meeting schedule to provide more continuous reporting program to parents. The Year Five and Six students will run ‘three-way interviews’ where the discussion around learning and goal setting is a conversation between the student, parents and teachers. The three-way interview system supports our older students to become more independent and develop ownership of their learning. Please look out for the link; we will alert people via ‘Skoolbag’ that the link has been sent. Hart Art – Collaborative Artwork Auction If you were able to join us for assembly yesterday, you will have seen the incredible collaborative pieces of artwork that each year level has created. These are of a particularly high standard and we are very lucky to have such talented and creative art teachers, Jude Insole and Pal Di’Angelo to guide our children. The artworks are displayed in the front meeting room by the main school office for you to view and auction sheets have been placed on the door for bidding. Please remember the final bidding for each artwork will take place on Friday 9 August during the Gala Night for Hart Art. National Disability Data Collection Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019). The types of information collected is years of schooling, category of disability (physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional) and how the school supports the student within the school. This information is used by the NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability. The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact me. Thank you for your assistance with this data collection. A Journey into S.T.E.A.M. and Woolworths Earn and Learn 2019 A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our Earn and Learn Campaign this year. We collected 56,000 stickers, well done! As you are aware, the stickers collected enable the school to purchase resources for the teaching and learning program. This year we have been able to add to our robotic equipment and purchase filming equipment and a green screen to the value of $2,500. All of this equipment assists with teaching S.T.E.A.M and providing opportunities to further investigate. I would like to thank Katie Dwyer and her team of helpers for organizing the campaign.

Reminders:

Word of the Week at Hartwell! ‘Word of the Week’ is running extremely successfully across the school. Each week, the

students will have a particular word that is unique to their year level that they have to try

and use during the week in their speaking and writing. Some of the teams will have a

fortnightly ‘Word of the Week’ so that they can have more opportunity to unpack their

words on a deeper level e.g. investigating parts of speech and using the words in a range of

different contexts.

Each week, there will be a list of all the ‘Words of the Week’ across the school in this

newsletter. It would be great to discuss the ‘Word of the Week’ with your child at home

and possibly use it in conversation or a piece of writing.
