Our vibrant School Visits programme encourages students of all ages toengage with the arts, immersing them in the creative learning processwhile surrounded by a positive, inclusive and visually inspiring environment.

Harbourfront Centre’s team of passionate educators are dedicated toproviding meaningful, curriculum-linked programmes that meet a numberof overall expectations in the Ontario curriculum. Our multidisciplinaryapproach gives you the opportunity to tap into a broad spectrum ofcurriculum areas within a single visit. Time and again, teachers areamazed by the creativity and enthusiasm demonstrated by their studentsas they consider new techniques, materials, ideas and perspectives.

RegistrationPlease have the following information ready when you register:

• Your choice of programme• Full-day or half-day• Your first and second choices for date of visit• Number and grade level of students• Name, mailing address, telephone and fax numbers of school• Email address of main contact person• Name(s) of accompanying teacher(s) and their email address(es)

Please note: There is a non-refundable deposit required per school at thetime of confirmation to hold your place. Deposit for a half-day programmeis $100 and $150 for a full-day programme. Schools booking multipledays are required to pay a deposit for each day. If a booking is cancelledwithout re-booking less than two weeks prior to the scheduled visit date,the non-refundable deposit will be forfeited. Once bookings have beenmade, changes to the visit date, programme choices and an additionor subtraction of five or more students per class, are subject to anadministration fee of $25.

Subsidy is available on a case-by-case basis for students or schools inneed, pending availability and is subject to change. Contact the Registrarfor criteria details.

Please encourage your students on a full-day programme to bring lunch anda snack. Students booked for half-day programmes are encouraged to bringa morning or afternoon snack. Please keep in mind that Harbourfront Centreis a peanut-aware building, and encourages all school groups to prohibitstudents from bringing nut or nut-related products with them.

Toronto Dance TheatreNovember 7, 2013 Grade 7-12Icons and Ergons Toronto Dance Theatre presents a driving, kineticnew work by artistic director Christopher Houseset to Music for Eighteen Musicians, thecelebrated masterwork by American minimalistcomposer Steve Reich. Students will participatein a dance workshop and a contemporary gallerytour.

Dance WorksFebruary 21, 2014 Grade 9-12A Soldiers Tale –Signal TheatreThis theatrical dance explores the lives ofAboriginal soldiers over the span of 50 years.Make it a full day by pairing this performancewith a School Visits workshop exploring socialjustice.

The Power PlantMicah Lexier: One, and Two,and More Than TwoSeptember 20 – January 5Showcasing the work of Toronto-based artist,Micah Lexier, this exhibition explores conceptsof measurement, increment, passage of time,sequence, patterning, language and systemsof organization. It also includes an ambitiouscuratorial project by Lexier which features thework of 101 Toronto artists. Students respondto the show by participating in hands-on linoprintmaking workshop.

Architecture GallerySchool Work: InnovativeDesigns for Education September 20 – December 22This exhibition looks at how students andfaculty use classrooms and schools now, andpurpose spaces that become educational toolsfor the future through inspired design. Studentsvisit the exhibit and participate in a hands-onworkshop to create their ideal educationalenvironment.

York Quay GalleryStudio Focus: ExcellencePast and PresentJanuary 24 – April 20Bring your students to experience an exhibitionwhich presents a view of Harbourfront Centre’sartist-in-residency programme through theextraordinary work of the artists who have createdand worked within the studio. Students tourthe craft studios then create a ceramic ortextile piece of their own.

Textile Museum – PartnershipMarch 4-7Celebrate art, culture and design with a specialexhibition tour at the Textile Museum of Canada.Inspired by sketches made in the exhibition,students create their own textile at HarbourfrontCentre during the second part of the day.

Toronto and Region ConservationAuthority – PartnershipECO DayJune 2Environmental education experiences in theheart of the city. ECO Day programming mergesart and the environment to create a uniquelearning experience that showcases the naturalwonders of the Toronto region through the lensof Harbourfront Centre art programmes.
