Kamogelo further told Hammanskraal News that the incident dealt her a serious blow but had to stomach it for the sake of her son. On the other hand the single mother had to feed and clothe the family as her parents were not acknowledged as pensioners then. She maintained that it would take time as the two families are ready to bury the hatchets and consult the social workers for assistance. She admitted that it is a difficult undertaking that is worth making. ‘’It is difficult to live with but worth trying to forgive, forget and lead a better and fruitful life,” Kamogelo concluded with a sob. SANRAL was established in 1998, shortly after the transition to democracy.

We have played an important role during the first 20 years of freedom in

looking after a network which connects the country’s major cities, towns and

rural areas and facilitates the effective movement of people, goods and services.

Kamogelo Tshenodi, from Masakhane near Radium, lives in dread and hate of living near a man who once raped her in 2002. A 56 years old woman told Hammanskraal News that the man stays a few streets north of her residence. She said they were staying in a shack together with her son who was four years old at the time. She lamented that her son had to watch

her being raped at that tender age, hysterically screamed for her mom to be left alone.

Kamogelo said that that was the worst of times in her life being threatened with a butcher’s knife that was pressed against her waist. According to the survivor, the man came to her shack on a winter evening to ask direction and was invited in as it was cold. She said that that was the time for the perpetrator to make his move

and ordered her down and raped her after an unsuccessful battle. She said that she immediately reported the matter to the police and was taken to hospital and a rape case was opened. The family of five was shocked by the fire that attacked their home and left them homeless. The shack belonging

to business man known to the community as Benjamin who stays in a new settlement in Haakdoringlagte was destroyed completely. The incident happened on 30 April at about 15h00 in the afternoon. There were no candles, prima-stoves or fire that could have been the cause of this incident. The children were playing outside the yard. The parents were working in their spaza shop.

This family left their home in the morning with no sign that there might be any fire on the day. They were shocked by the smoke that came out of the house and a sudden blaze that consumed their home. The family was not able to save anything because this fire was too fast. The community members came as fast as they can to try to save some of the valuables of this family but could not. The only thing that could be done was to just look at the fire blazing the shack and feel sorry and helpless. The community members then decided that they could not leave one of their own alone in the cold, then donated blankets, zinks, poles and other building material to help rebuild the shack. Some contributed food, money, school uniform for the children. On 01 May one employee of

city of Tshwane Mr Tshabalala came to see how the city could be of help. The city promised that they will not leave one of their own homeless and food less. They promised to make sure that the Benjamin family is sheltered again. On 01 May the community members came together to help the family rebuild a temporal structure that

could accommodate the family for time being. The Praise Tabernacle church in the area contrubted a lot since the members of the family attend there. “ I want to thank everyone who when they saw the fire they acted, left every thing that they were doing and came to help. The fact that you did act even though there was nothing to save means a

lot to me” said Benjamin with tears in his eyes. Mr Ramatene and the committee members were seen at the incident and Mr Makgene did not go even close to the victims who are also under his leadership. ANC members were seen helping to clean the yard and landing a helping hand there and there.

Its winter and a lot of people are still staying in mekhukhu. Unfortunately this is the time whereby the report of burns or people become more homeless during this time of the year.

We have our own special way of warming our houses and in most cases this is not safe. We take mbaola inside the house to keep ourselves warm, prima-stove and old electric stoves. Some of these stoves when you look at them, they are clearly written danger all over them. We take great risks to make ourselves comfortable and warm and we forget about our own safety. After the burns we have our special treatments and usually ignore going to the hospital and clinics. We put toothpaste to soothe our burns and wait for the pain to go away. I wonder if this method works. Parents should be more careful about the where-about of their infants. We all know that children are fascinated by the fire and want to experiment with it. This is the time for fathers and mothers to be extra careful. People going to bus stops start fire and leave it un-extinguished rushing for the bus. These leads to veldt fires which is not safe for our most precious creatures like snakes. These fires can also damage houses and businesses. So my fellow community members we would like to celebrate the festive season with scar-less happy people. Be careful.

By BB MalulekaMost of the industries at Babelegi Industrial Park of then former Bophuthatswana have since been left unoccupied before democracy as most of the owners were uncertain about the upcoming democratic elections. Investors closed their factories while Some are still left unoccupied making a way for thieves to vandalise them and taking what might give them money such as old machines while some take corrugated iron sheets which this industries have been built with. About three men are under police custody after they were found to have built structures with corrugated iron sheets which belong to the industries belonging to Northwest Development Developments Corporations (NWDC) in Babelegi Industrial Park. According to Mary Ledwaba of

NWDC they saw the corrugated iron sheets from different households on Wednesday 16 of this month at Carousel View and Ramotse areas. This is not the first case currently there are other three suspects who are still facing the same charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.

The current suspects are also facing the same charges and my concern is that some of them are older persons because one of the suspects is about 64 years old said Ledwaba. Ledwaba told Hammanskraal News that the 64 year old man said that the corrugated iron sheets were brought by two youth who told him that they were selling them and told them that he have no money and they left the corrugated iron sheets and promise to return and collect them.Ledwaba said that they were able to identify the zinc sheets because of the colour of paint they use for their industries as it is mostly not used for households as its expensive. Another employee told Hammanskraal News that they also identified the stolen window frames because the colour is the same as their factory. According to Ledwaba one of the industry which was mostly affected is the Tigrates which is unoccupied which was worth more than R2 million and other factories the damages have not yet been evaluated for but the money is too much. She said that some of the other items that thieves steals are window frames, cables and operational machines which have since been left in the unoccupied factories. Ledwaba said that what the residences do is very bad

because the aim of NWDC is to develop Babelegi through investors but if they continue to vandalise them most industries will continue to close down resulting more job losses. One of the places where the corrugated iron sheets were discovered was at Ditloung Tavern in Section B and they were used as the roof of a double parking space and some were for the roof shelter where the customers stay whilst they are having their drinks. The owner of Ditloung Frans Thubakgale pleaded his innocence to Hammanskraal News that he bought the sheets at a place where they sell second hand building material at Leboneng. Thubakgale said that he bought 20 of these sheets with R150.00 each when asked about the slip he said that he have since thrown it away after the purchase. Expressing his emotions about the incidence he said that he feels bad because he did not stole the material and this is going to negatively affect his business because customers will no longer have a place to stay under because they will not sit in the sun while having their drinks. Thubakgale have also been charged with being in possession of suspected stolen property and the police expect to arrest more suspects as investigations are still underway.

Senior citizens are the foundation of every society which shapes growth, success and future of the country. In Hammanskraal pensioners have established an organisation which serves as the support for development for the elderly who are no longer working. Member of Golden Boys and Girls (GBG) Sophy Khoele said that the organisation is for the elderly who are more than 50 years and anyone

irrespective of their profession. Khoele says that members meet once per month inviting different speakers to develop and empower us. The elderly get a chance to interact and socialise including sharing different knowledge said Khoele.Khoele further said that GBG also serves as a pillar of support including when member have passed away or a member of his or her family. She further said that the organisation have really helped them because some of the speakers they had invited have told them about how to draft a will and most of them never had any idea about how it is been drafted. She also told Hammanskraal News that

some of the speakers advised them of what to do when they need to extend their houses to avoid electrocution. She proudly said that the organisation welcomes everyone it does not discriminate against anyone and those who are interested in joining they are free to do so.Members of Golden Boys and Girls are said to have massage machines which are there to soothe their wellness as most are living with various diseases while others are under medications.

Khoele said that one of their memorable event that was when they took a religious tour to Israel. The tour was very educational as we visited most of the places which we had only read in the Bible however we had a privilege of visiting Jerusalem and other many places.Responding to the behaviour of today youth she said that we need to respect the law as we cannot compare the old apartheid and today democratic system. She urged youth not to abuse alcohol as she is aware that quitting is not easy but they must drink responsibly and stop using drugs such as nyaope because they are the future leaders. “Charity begins at home so the youth must practice responsibility while they are still young in order to become better parents who will be able to groom their children” emphasized Khoele.Speaking to one of the members Reverend Olympus Magagane told Hammanskraal News that he is very grateful to the organisation as it also serves as a beacon of hope to many members as they pray together and support each other. When a member is sick or having a funeral we visit and give her support as we are from different churches but that does not deter their unity. “The organisation also undergoes different trips every year and that is to insure that the elderly are able to interact and enjoy their pension as

most of them lounge alone at their homes” said Magagane.Magagane said that Golden Boys and Girls had a memorable trip when they visited Israel years back and they intend having more trips. As the members we decide which trip we want to take and that gives us as the elderly time to save money if there is more money needed he explained. Magagane told Hammanskraal News that the trips they take that gives older persons time to refresh and have fun with people of their age unlike most who are pensioners who are left alone during the day by their family members.

According to knowledgeable residents, soccer lovers and supporters of the neighbouring teams, Ramotse and Kgatelopele FC from Kekana gardens, it was meant to be a walk through the park for the hosts, Ramotse Darkies. The three division HALFA league games that were played on Sunday 11 produced a surprise for the hosts in Ramotse Darkies FC who were considered automatic winners. As it is sometimes said, “Fortune favours the brave”. These games were played on the unfriendly and bumpy Lebelo Primary school soccer ground. The thirty minute per side in the under thirteen was brilliant and showed the prospect in the teenagers from both sides. The boys were good runners and, although young and indecisive at times exhibited talent and skill in the first half. The hosts, Ramotse Darkies took an early from a shot that was deflected into the posts. The game progressed in the same way until the twenty eighth minute when the visitors, Kgatelopele equalized. The latter displayed exchange of good passes up to the host’s danger area and scored from a cross that left the keeper glued to the ground. The second half was almost a ding-dong battle as the boys struggled to connect passes together to make good penetrating efforts from both

sides. It was in the third quarter of the game when the young lads remonstrated to the referee after a faulty goal was scored though it did not count. The under thirteen finished with a 2-2 all. Some of the spectators praised the shorter Kgatelopele whom they termed “Little Napoleons in the making”. They added that in comparison, the Darkies guys are taller and therefore should have done better but, “dynamites come in small packages”The under nineteen teams began with all determination and enthusiasm when Kgatelopele were awarded a corner in the first fifteen minutes of the match. The corner was poorly taken and well-defended by their opponents. Two minutes after the said attack, Darkies registered their first goal when a well floated cross from their left winger was directed for glory. The shot was taken from an awkward angle and beat Kgatelopele goal minder hand down. Darkies’s number 15 was denied a second goal after beating the Kgatelopele defence. The latter was a gift on a silver platter where credit was to be given to Kekana Gardens goalie thwarted the attempt for a corner.

The thirtieth minute goal revivedKgatelopele when they equalized from a well taken through ball that left the host goalie sprawled. It was hit into a bounce that went under his arm right arm for a celebration. The guys showed lots of energy and lack of experience led to them missing chances. Darkies played most of their balls to their left winger,” Yellow” (number 11) who was their danger man. Generally the two teams were evenly matched towards the dying minutes of the game and that efforts made to score were thwarted. It was a matter of dashing and exchanging the ball, keeping possession well without good finishing. The tshwara ke go fora, shibobos and hamba uzoboya were characteristic. All this enterprising football in dusty ground was witnessed with awe and jubilance. Losing the game from the middle of the park led Kgatelopele

taking shots from range. Some of the shots were thunderous, with power and venom but marginally off-target. This game also ended up in a 1-1 all draw.
