A FRESH APPROACH TO LOCAL NEWS IN HAMMANSKRAAL One of the most anticipated festival of the year left the prospective spectators disappointed. Many of these were those who wanted to see the long sang young musician in Nicky Minaj. This was the worst disappointment to those of her age as well as the ones who love her music. P eople around the country and music lovers in Gauteng to be specific had their hopes for a music feat of the year turned down. Most of the people had purchased their tickets to go and witness a festival of great magnitude that was called off at the eleventh hour. The event was to be held at Cullinan with the brand “Tribe One Dinokeng Festival” in Cullinan. The fest was meant for the week-ending 26, 27 and 28 respectively and cancelled on Thursday 18. It therefore was to become a three day music spectacular and thriller for the locals and visitors alike. According to information that Hammanskraal News received, the awaited performers on the day were inter-alia, stars such as Nicky Minaj, J. Cole, Macklemore, Riaan Lewis and Daara J. The source relayed the involvement of Sony Music entertainment in preparatory stages. It was reported that Dinokeng offered an open site whereupon the City of Tshwane was to come with the necessary infrastructure. On the other hand, the City was to install electricity, supplied water and prepared the stage that was to be used. It was made clear though, that the necessary preparations ran behind schedule/time for the good quality performances. The report further mentioned that the fest was cancelled because of lack of proper preparations from the side of the organizers. The festival was to be run on three major music genre groupings as rock/pop, hip-hop/RnB and dance. It was said that the venue was to operate from three stages as Africa’s biggest music Festival. It was further relayed that the festival was cancelled due to lack of preparation from the organizers. Furthermore, the organizers promised to reimburse all the ticket holders. Attempts to contact Sony Music Entertainment were redirected to Yoliswa Pasipadonya of Meropa communications in Johannesburg who could not be reached for comment at the time since she was in a meeting. The communications officer for City of Tshwane could also not be reached due to their busy schedule. According to other media reports, the festival was meant to run at 65 million rands. On the other hand, Nicky Minaj was to appear on stage for a bill of a non- refundable R10 000 000 whilst the City of Tshwane had already spent R40 000 000 on infrastructure development.

A FRESH APPROACH TO LOCAL NEWS IN HAMMANSKRAAL

One of the most anticipated festival of the year left the prospective spectators disappointed. Many of these were those who wanted to see the long sang young musician in Nicky Minaj. This was the worst disappointment to those of her age as well as the ones who love her music.

People around the country and music lovers in Gauteng to be specific had their hopes for a music

feat of the year turned down. On the other hand, the City was to install electricity,

supplied water and prepared the stage that was to be used.

Schools’ sports plays an important role in developing our country’s soccer fraternity, these are the words of Fikile Mbalula our national sports minister. Some schools sing the same tune amongst them include Tifuxeni Secondary and Namo. The two schools of Stinkwater in Hammanskraal held boys junior team challenge on the 19th of this month at Tefuxeni soccer field. The event was sponsored by our Hammanskraal News (H News) publication, Blue Ribbon Bakery and Hammanskraal Furnmart furnisher store.

The hot spring temperatures did not deter the spirit of both players of Namo and Tefuxeni as both teams started on a high note attempting for early goals but that was

not the case. Tefuxeni dominated the first half missing many chances to score until half time whereby both teams were all nil until they went for an interval. In the second half Tifuxeni junior team came with their guns blazing and managed to score first goal after 20 minutes. Namo tried hard to record a goal but all went in vain after Tefuxeni recorded their second goal to secure victory. Tefuxeni learners received medals and a winning trophy over their victory which was provided by H News, learners were given bags with writing material sets which comprised of notepad, pen, pencil including ruler by Furnmart while Blue Ribbon supplied them with bread and graced the event with sound system. The second game of the day was between the finalist Tefuxeni Grade 10 BCM and 11 NS boys’ team to proof who got mojo within their school. Both teams kept learners and educators on their toes from the first blow of the whistle with attacks from both teams. Both teams worked hard to score goal in the first half but they were both found wanting but to no avail until the second half. Gr 10 BCM captain Sthembiso Nhlapho 18 crushed the tight wall of Gr 11 defence wall with the first goal from a free kick that went direct for glory in 20 minutes of the game. Gr 11 NS tried hard to come back with an equalizer but the opponent tight marking and defence of Gr 10 insured that their dream of the trophy and a gold medal does not materialize. The Gr 10 secured victory 1-0 against Gr 11 winning a gold medal and a trophy. Thabang Gosebo said that they were disappointed as they prepared hard for the match and they thought they were just going to win the tournament. “The game was between entrepreneurs and as the scientists we thought we were going to multiply them but that was the case” said Thabang Gosebo Gr 11 NS captain with a laughter. Tinyiko Mathebula event organisor told Hammasnkraal News that they were grateful to the paper as the tournament started in March this year between Grade 8, 9 , 10, 11, and 12. It started without any sponsorship but we are very grateful l to Hammasnkraal News for the trophy and the medals provided to the learners said Mathebula. “These will serve as motivation to the learners even in the near future and we looking forward in hosting different sporting codes next year in our school” he said. Grace Sithole schools’ principal told Hammanskraal News team that she is happy that the paper with partnership of Blue Ribbon and Furnmart sponsored the event. She further said that the tournament serves as motivation for more participation in sports for learners of Tifuxeni and the surrounding schools. “We must remember that they say that a healthy mind is a healthy body so as educators we empower both aspects of the learners” remarked Sithole.

WHEN YOU SUSTAIN AN INJURY WHILE ON DUTY OR CONTRACT AN OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE, HERE ARE SIMPLE STEPS TO FOLLOW:

1. Report your injury or disease immediately to your employer or supervisor. Your employer is legally responsible for reporting your injury on duty the Compensation Fund within seven ( 7) working days of receiving notice from you and within fourteen (14) days when it is an occupational disease as well as submitting the necessary forms and documents.

2. When you go to hospital or the doctor of your own choice, you should take the form (W.CI.2 – Part B), which has been completed by your employer, with you. This form is important as it contains all the correct information regarding your employer, your full names and how you were injured. It also shows that you were injured at work.

3. When the doctor gives you the First Medical Report (W.CI.4) and Progress/Final Medical Reports (W. CI.5), you must give them to your employer to send to the Compensation Fund. The First Medical Report is important to the Compensation Fund because the doctor has given a detailed clinical description of your injury or your condition. The Final Medical Report is also important, as it states the date when you are fit to go back to work and describes your permanent disablement, if any, as a result of the accident. * Keep in touch with your employer and make sure that he/she can

get into contact with you. If you change your address, inform your employer and this office as soon as possible.

4. If you feel that your employer does not cooperate or assist you, or if you think your accident has not been reported to the Compensation Fund, or it is taking too long, go to your provincial office or nearest Labour Centre and report this.

5. Compensation is money paid by the Compensation Fund when an employee was injured on duty and to compensate you for the loss of wages and/or to pay medical expenses. No compensation is payable if you are unfit for work for three days or less. Medical expenses will, however, be paid. In the case where you have suffered a serious injury and you are unfit for work for three months and longer, your employer must pay you 75% of your wages/salary as at the time of the accident. Your employer will claim this back from the Compensation Fund. If you

are off work more than three months, you must claim the compensation (salary/wages) directly from the Compensation Fund if the employer does not pay you anymore. For this purpose you should use the form Affidavit (W.CL. 132) to claim your compensation. We will also require your banking details to enable us to deposit the compensation into your bank account.

6. If the doctor indicates in the medical reports that you are temporary unfit for work, (an injury that will gets better, such as a cut) you will only get 75% of the salary you were receiving at the time of the accident. This will only be paid during the time that you are unfit for duty. You will not get any more money for your injury. No payment can be made for pain and suffering.

7. If the doctor indicates in the Final Medical Report that you have a

permanent injury, such as deafness, blindness, loss of movement of a joint or an amputation of a limb or an injury that permanently disables you (for the rest of your life), it will be assessed according to the percentage of disability laid down in the COID Act. If your disability is assessed at 30% or less, you will be paid a lump sum, which is a once-off payment for that injury. If your disability is assessed at more than 30% you will be entitled to the payment of a monthly pension for life from the date of stabilisation of your condition which is reflected on the Final Medical Report. The amount of this pension is calculated on your salary at the time of the accident, your percentage of disability and the benefits applicable at the time of the accident.

8. If you qualify for compensation submit the following documents to the Compensation Fund:• Form (W.Ac.33 obtainable at your provincial office or your nearest

Labour Centre of download if from www.labour.gov.za) must be duly completed and signed by the employee and stamped and dated by the bank

• A certified original copy of the employee’s ID• First page of the employee’s bank statement, not older than three

months and • Proof of residence i.e. water and electricity bill, etc.• These documents should be the ORIGINAL documents and not

older than three months.

For more information go to your nearest labour centre or provincial office or call 0860 105 350

Opinion piece by Palesa

SANRAL is probably one of the top three most disliked organisations in SA. The intimidatory methods they have used to try to collect e-toll money in Gauteng have made them second only to SARS and Eskom in the unpopularity stakes.

Even though SANRAL has cleaned up its e-tag contract and dealt with some of the many ob-jections to e-tolls, the arguments against the gantries are numerous. Motorists were not consulted. South African citizens do not un-derstand why their e-toll Rands should bene-fi t Austria, and the cost of collection is far too high. Also, there have been allegations of

corruption in the construction of the GFIP; and SANRAL itself does not obey all the laws of the country. According to the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), the price you see is supposed to be the price you pay, but the boards on our high-ways display the discounted price which applies only to owners of e-tags. [Part D Section 23 (6) a) of the Consumer Protection Act of 2008] If a supermarket customer picked up a pocket of oranges marked R10, took it to the till and was then expected to pay R15 for it, he or she would be outraged – and rightly so, because the su-permarket would be contravening the CPA. The same principle should apply to SANRAL, even if toll-fees have been fi xed by law. Also, if the GFIP was designed to widen selected freeways in Gauteng, and if the gantries erected across

them were designed to extract payment for this, then surely motorists should not be expected to pay for the original sections of the roads which have already been paid for? According to this logic, then, SANRAL should only charge motor-ists when they travel on those sections of the road that have been widened; and our nation-al roads agency should apply the “user pays” principle consistently, by marking the new lanes and setting up even more cameras to monitor motorists. Nevertheless, it is the 2016 Local General Elections that are the greatest threat to e-tolls. The Austrian gantries on our highways are at least partly to blame for the ANC’s 10% drop at the polls in the country’s most prosper-ous province between 2014 and 2009, and it is very unlikely that the ruling party will want to risk dropping below 50% in future elections. So it is not surprising that, in a move that has impli-cations for the future of e-tolling throughout the country, the new Gauteng Premier has ordered a review of e-tolls.

We live in a world that has lost harmony in many areas. Everyone wants to do what he/she thinks is the right thing to do. Everyone expresses his/her rights even if it is not right to superimpose his/her rights against the rights of others. We have grown so much individualistic, to an alarming point. When we look within families, communities, schools, churches, sports, governments and business, it is rare to find winning teams. The individualistic mannerism and influences have been depleted.

In the book of wisdom Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 New International Version (NIV) states: Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? One may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.Building anything is not as easy as destroying it. It takes time, pain and sweat to build anything you love to have. You need to be seriously involved to have things you really aspire to have in this life time. Many people today are bankrupt of love, ideas, emotions, intellect, finances, health and relationships because they have failed to understand how to build winning teams. Our failure is not because we are stupid. Our failure is because we are ignorant and lack the required knowledge that faces a certain situation. We need knowledge and understanding in order to put relevant solutions to various situations we find ourselves in. It is very stupid and laughable (God disapproves of such hopelessness) to pray for a person who tells you that he/she is hungry and thirsty. That solution is irrelevant and unappreciable to the problem at hand. This type of action will force observers to conclude that this was a foolish act. They will further conclude that whoever acted in this foolish manner, he/she is a fool.

HOW DO WE BEGIN TO BUILD WINNING TEAMS?

1 Cor 13:8b-12 (Phi) For if there are prophecies they will be fulfilled and done with, if there are "tongues" the need for them will disappear, if there is knowledge it will be swallowed up in truth. For our knowledge is always incomplete and our prophecy is always incomplete, and when the complete comes, that is the end of the incomplete. When I was a little child I talked and felt like a little child. Now that I am a man I am finished with childish things. At

present we are men looking at puzzling reflections in a mirror. The time will come when we shall see reality whole and face to face! At present all I know is a small fraction of the truth, but the time will come when I shall know it as fully as God has known me!

The T in teams means…together. Members in any environment must be committed to the principle of working together for the common good of the aims and objectives of being together. They need to ensure that nothing separates them from staying together. They need to be committed to what binds them together. They need to ask when they are not sure or when they do not understand. They need to listen to each other without judgemental attitude. We do all this to avoid separation. The E means to encourage each other or one another at all times. We need to understand and acknowledge that we are unique and different in many respects. We encourage each other to become what we were born to be. We need to destroy competition amongst us. Competition is the greatest danger in anything people want to build. Competition with each other must be buried in the deepest dungeons of this planet. People waste time in competition with others rather than spending time unearthing hidden and untapped great qualities within oneself. Encouraging each other to uproot what the world is graciously waiting to see from you. A stand for agree with each other at all times. Our culture must be to talk to each other on any subject without reservations, discuss issues which we never wanted to discuss, differ as much as possible in various respects but finally agree at all times for the common good of our progress. Agreeing is a pain of growth and maturity within the environment. Do not compromise, agree at all times. Finally the letter M means measure both actions against the goals you have scored. We need to pause after each distance travelled. We pause and evaluate our commitment to actions taken. We measure individual activities as compared to the collective results. A team will thrive when the team members tell the naked truth. We do not buy each other’s face because we are in this… together. Therefore be wise as serpents (snakes) and harmless as doves.

A man accused of murdering his girlfriend and child decided to delay bail application this month at Moretele Magistrate Court. Johannes Tholo appeared for the second time at court for bail application in connection with murder of Innontia Mavungu (23) and her child Angela (2) at Moeka Village in August this year.

The bail hearing lasted less than five minutes before Tholo told the

presiding judge that he no longer want to continue with his bail application. The mother of the deceased who discovered the body of her daughter Sarah Rikhotso of Cullinan Refilwe section, said she called the suspect several times after Innontia left her

house on seven August going to visit the suspect together with Angela. Rikhotso said that she called Johannes, but his phone was off. She started feeling suspicious about the wellbeing of her daughter. Rikhotso told Hammanskraal News that she went to the suspect’s home on August 17 after visiting her colleague for the directions. “When asking Johannes’ mother about my daughter she told me that they left on Monday while their son left on Thursday to his sister’s place

in Johannesburg” she said. Rikhotso said that she asked to search the house for her daughter, but she did not find her daughter Innontia.Rikhotso further said she was alerted by the barking dog about the pit toilet where there was a big hole covered by a metal sheet with hardened used cement on top. She claims that she opened the hole and quickly closed it after seeing something red which she was told by her children Innontia was wearing when she left. “I opened the metal sheet and saw my daughter inside as I identified her with the braids I made her before she left and that’s when I called the police” exhaled Rikhotso.According to Rikhotso they called the suspect’s sister to inform the police about the gruesome discovery of Innontia and then the police came and arrested him. “At first I thought my grandchild was also in the same hole but that was not the case she

said. Rikhotso told Hammanskraal News that while she was at the mortuary she received a call from police officer informing her that Angela was found dead at the suspects aunts house stuffed in a sports bag. Innontia was described by her mother as someone who is reserved and never speaks a lot or goes out to parties.

Rikhotso said that she never liked the suspect as he was always disrespectful, abusive and I even confronted him to stop coming to my house looking for my daughter as he have never paid any lobola. She further said that her daughter used to tell her that Johannes beat her and he sometimes threatened to kill her with a small axe which he used to hid under the bed while they were still staying together at Cullinan.

Solomon Madileng (55) shot his wife Maggie Madileng seven times in the face seven years ago. Judge Danie Van der Berg, before handing over the judgement, said that most of South Africans are good citizens however few are bad elements. “A husband is expected to protect his wife but that was not the case, as you shot her and ran through Lim-popo until you reached Durban” explained Van der Berg. He further said that it was only through the newspaper you discovered that your wife survived and that she is still alive. Van der Berg told the court that such attempted murder is not ordinary because it occurred between married individuals, unlike strangers. “We must be clear we cannot tolerate such crimes (violent) in our country. It’s a miracle she (Maggie) was shot seven times (in the face) at close range and she is still alive” he emphasized. He added that the murder was premeditated (planned) “as you were aware that your wife has already filed for divorce.” He also found Solomon unfit to carry any firearm stating that the suspect used his wife’s firearm during the incident. Maggie said that she felt relieved as justice has finally prevailed. The case have been dragging for seven years. According to Maggie the incident occurred after she left their house to stay with her sister for seven months after having to experience being beaten by her husband. She said in some instances Solo-mon would take her to the bushes and assault her physically. “Solomon came to my sister’s place and pleaded with me to come home so that we can

mend our marriage problems and I agreed to that” said Maggie.“During the first week of my return at our house, he asked me to book a vacation at Elephant Springs Hotel so that we can mend our marriage, days be-fore the shooting incident” explained Maggie. “The first week after my return my husband urged me to call the hotel to inform the staff that we would be arriving on a Friday and I did as he requested” she said. On Friday we left as per agreement. While we were on Nokaneng Road Maggie alleges that as Solomon was busy driving he told her that the car was not okay, something was wrong, but she kept quiet and said nothing while they were on the Settlers’ gravel she said. She further explained that aftera few kilometers he said the same thing. “ I told him I don’t hear anything wrong with the car and he stopped the vehicle without switching the engine off as if he was checking the vehicle’s wheels for faults.” Maggie said Solomon came near her door and she saw flames and heard a sound. Then she started feeling excruciating pain in her jaws. “Then he went back to the drivers’ seat and that’s when I saw him shooting again aiming at my face” she said. Maggie alleges that after the second bullet being shot she heard Solomon saying “O batla go ja chelate ya ka le banna ba gao” which translates as: you want to enjoy my money with your men. She collapsed and has no memory of what happened after that. Moretele Magistrate Court have sentenced the busi-nessman of Seabe to serve 15 years for attempted murder of his wife and 5 years each for kidnapping and assault of her employer which will run concur-rently, a total of 20 years.

Brazil may have been the official host of the FIFA World Cup matches, but there was plenty of soccer action right here at home from 12 June to 12 July at Cambridge Food stores across the country.

That’s because Cambridge Food hosted its own Shoot Out competition for shoppers of all ages, where instant prizes were up for grabs each Saturday over the World Cup period. Participating customers also stood a chance of winning one of 20 sparkling new twin tub washing machines. To enter, shoppers simply purchased one or more Simba, Pepsi and/or Johnson & Johnson product(s) during their normal weekly shopping. The more brands they bought, the easier their shot. Buying one brand earned them a strike from a corner position, two suppler brands was worth a free kick and all three brands earned participants the coveted penalty kick. Each customer walked away with a smile on his or her face, plus a new key ring, water bottle or mini soccer ball. What’s more, one lucky shopper from each store also won a brand-new twin tub. From our very own doorstep Sarah Baloyi won the grand prize from Cambridge Food Temba. Sarah Baloyi was the lucky winner of the grand prize at the recent Cambridge Food Temba Shoot Out competition.

We as South Africans, black and white cele-brate Heritage day every year. To most school going children, Heritage day means having a public holiday and only going to school for four days of the week, To most students and teenagers it means a shorter working week and a extra party day, and to many working people Heritage day is just another paid public holiday to either chill at home or get double pay if you are so unfor-tunate to have to work on the day. To politicians and different political parties, Heritage day give them the opportunity to spend either their parties money or the tax payers money on elaborate Heritage day cel-ebrations. Fat cat politicians get into their big

black expensive shiny luxury German cars and drive into rural areas to rub shoulders with the working class electorate, who are told to be proud of their different heritages. Once the Heritage day celebrations are over these same fat cat politicians depart to their luxury homes in the cities, sipping Johnny Walker black while they anxiously watch the TV news hoping to view themselves, and once the news is over , we the working class electorate are forgotten until the next celebra-tion or election when our votes are needed. In south Africa with something like 11 official languages and many more different cultures, Heritage day can be rather confusing. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying it is not a good idea to celebrate Heritage day and to spend a few minutes reminding yourself of who you are, where you have come from, who you an-

cestors were and what they achieved in their lives, furthermore due to who your ancestors were and what they achieved in their lives, directly resulted in who you are today. What is confusing to me is: indirectly your heritage is linked to your culture, with so many people of different cultures getting married to each other these days, I am not only speaking of black and white, but Zulu or Xhosa, Zimbabwean or Nigerian, English or Afrikaans, Indian or Italian. In 20 years from now, will South Africans know what our herit-age or culture is or where we came from and where our roots lie? What is also of concern to me is, we South Africans are not really concerned about our heritage or our culture except when it suits us, for an example, a black family living in the

east of Pretoria are having a wedding in the family, they will insist on slaughtering a cow in the back garden because that is their culture, however the wedding will be an expensive white wedding with lavish suits and a white wedding dress. My question is, what has a white wedding got to do with the culture of a black South African family? The culture of the black South African family is to pay Labolla, and to have a celebration feast at the bride’s Parents house, and the next day another cel-ebration feast at the grooms parents house. Who introduced this crazy idea of white wed-ding dresses and fancy suits? Similarly white South Africans heritage and culture is to have a white wedding with an expensive white wedding dress and fancy expensive suits. This is great if you are get-ting married in the city, but now many white South Africans are wanting to get married in the bushveld, at big 5 game lodges or remote farm venues. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to realize that a big white expensive wedding dress was not designed to be walked down a dusty un-tarred road or through the bush, a white wedding is meant for the city. The point I am trying to make is that when it suits us, we are very concerned about our heritage and culture, however when it doesn’t suit us, we are very quick to forget our own heritage and culture. The most amazing thing is, we seem to adopt another cultures expen-sive rituals and beliefs without batting an eye-lid or thinking twice about it, and neglect our own cultures' simple practical practices just to be in fashion or to swank. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only

love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Darkness, in many ways, is just absence of light - not a force or a substance in its own right. We can see this in our own country’s history. When the late Madiba chose forgiveness and reconciliation over bitterness and revenge, the darkness of the Eighties began to fade and we started to move forward as a nation. The recent Marikana crisis, also, seemed unresolvable until churches and other organizations took food to the striking miners.

On a smaller – but no less important – scale, an unemployed woman from Ekurhuleni some years back was looking for work one day when she found four children playing in a township street. Although Norah herself lived in a shack with no running water, electricity or water-borne sanitation; she took the children home and cared for them, sharing with them what little food she had in her home.

That day, without realizing it at the time, she started a school that attracted practical help and funding from businesses and individuals alike. Instead of giving up, she brought light into darkness.
