GSPCC NATIONAL SPECIALTY 2018 Good day all,

I am pleased to confirm that the 2018 National Specialty will take place on Saturday, August 25, 2018 in conjunction with the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Dog Association shows in Long Sault, ON. The event has now been approved by the CKC, as have our judges. The event will be sponsored by PURINA CANADA.

Our national specialty judge will be Mr. Ruis Oliveira of Portugal. Mr. Oliveira has a sporting dog background and started showing his father’s Pointers in 1974. He has made up champions in many different countries as well as in Portugal under the Vale Carvoeiro prefix and became a judge in 1984. Mr. Oliveira is now an all breed FCI judge and has officiated in many countries worldwide.

Our Sweepstakes, Veteran Sweepstakes and Junior Handler judge will be GSPCC member Sherry (Cheryl) Thrall, long-time breeder of the Hedgehog Hill Shorthairs. Sherry has been a good friend of the GSPCC and we are excited to have her judge at our National Specialty event.

As many of you already know, the show grounds and associated campgrounds at SD&G are nothing short of spectacular. They are also within a short distance of a variety of hotel accommodations and, as in previous years, we will seek to secure a block of rooms at a guaranteed price at the Best Western Parkway Inn in Cornwall.

Of note, we will be offering a Baby Puppy class at a reduced entry fee and there will also be a Baby Puppy class in the Sweepstakes. There will also be a breed booster for the regular show on the Sunday and the Ottawa Valley Pointing Dog Club specialty takes place on the Sunday as well. As in the past, we count on our members to financially support the national specialty by donating towards our trophy fund. Brooklyn with Tahoe the mushing GSP

Brooklyn was only 9 (almost 10) when she got Tahoe (Ch Bianca's BrazosRiver Tahoe) at 3 months. This was a match made in heaven. Brooklyn loves Tahoe as much as he loves her. There is nothing that this dog won't do for his kid. They do obedience, showmanship, all breed shows, 4H, freestyle obedience, and dogsledding. Brooklyn said right from the get go that he would be her leader one day. Last winter when he was still a puppy she would take him out and harness him up and hook him to the sled. She would run up and down the drive way behind the sled teaching him the gee & haw commands. This winter she hooked him up and it would appear that all her hard work and training has once again paid off. She hooked him once with 3 other dogs and he took right off. She was convinced that he was a leader. Next run he co-led a 4 dog team and did fantastic. He now runs lead every time he runs for her and never misses a command. Brooklyn is just 11 years old and handles a 4 dog team of 3 Alaskan Huskies and 18 month old Tahoe. She takes people out on rides so they can experience the thrill of dogsledding. New American Champion!

Porto is now Am/Can CH De Lombardie Legend of the Fall. He finished his American

championship with 5 majors, at Long Island (NY), Novi (MI) and York (PA) specialties. Porto is

the sixth puppy out of BISS Am CH/Can GCH De Lombardie Spirit of Forest FDJ to finish in the

United States. He will soon fly to England and hit the European show scene. I will sure miss this

beautiful and loving boy and I am wishing him the best of luck.

GCH West Star Acadian Run for the Money JH x Can GCH De Lombardie Belle des Bois FDJ

Most people in NorthEast know the beautiful and happy Joy. And we are happy to announce that Joy will be bred next summer. Joy’s pedigree is linebred on Wyndbourne (BIS BISS GCH Starfield's Army Strong V Bulkley JH x Can CH De Lombardie V Bulkley Europa). She have been selectively showed in Canada. She earned multiple BOBs, group 1st and placements and specialties placements. Joy is a great mover and has a loving and funny personnality.

The happy sire of the litter will be Nike, one of the famous West Star pups out of Truman and Maggie (BISS Am/Can CH Serakraut Breaknrules Coronet x CH West Star’s Cherokee Maiden Maggie). Owner-handled to his GCH, he won multiple BOBs, Owner-Handled Group 1’s, placements at specialties, Best Veteran in Shows and International BIS. Judge Michael Faulkner awarded Nike first place in his 12-18 month class at the 2009 National Specialty. Judges comment on Nike’s striking movement, beautiful headpiece, and real showmanship.

Regional Specialty with Caledon Kennel Association

We hosted our Regional Specialty at Caledon November 25th for the 7th year in a row, followed by our Booster show the next day. Our specialty judge was Garth Gourlay (Garth judged our NSS back in 2006 and since it had been a while it was great to have him judging our breed again). Our sweeps judge was Jeannette Warner Desruisseaux. Our members and friends brought us an entry of 8 in regular sweeps plus 3 in veteran sweeps and a specialty entry of 21 in the regular classes plus 4 baby puppies, 6 in the field class and 1 in altered. We are very grateful for the wonderful response to our Regional. During the course of the judging, our own Heather Brennan provided ring-side mentoring to a large group of judges. We took advantage of copies of the GSPCA’s beautifully Illustrated Breed Standard generously provided by Patte Titus in addition to our Canadian Breed Standard, which allowed us to give these judges a very professional overview of our breed to take away with them.
