I don’t have much to say this month. We are entering the thick of our competition sea-son for the various AKC events. I would like to en-courage the members to participate in submitting your brags and photos to me for inclusion in the Newsletters. I’m sure you are tired of seeing the same folks all of the time, but I can only publish what is sent in for submission. So get out there, have some fun, and compete with your dogs. Then drop me an E-Mail. Let me know where you com-peted, what the event was, what date it was, and what the placement was. If you have a photo to go along with it, send it also. I would love to include your dog’s accomplishments, and the correspond-ing photos in the upcoming Newsletters. Our Newsletter is only as good as the content you contribute. FOUR BROOKS TRAINING PERMITS 2012 Four Brooks WMA Training Passes are now available to club members.

These are grounds that are 13 miles north of Milaca on US Highway 169 that are jointly managed by the Min-

nesota DNR and Minnesota Federation of FIeld Trial Clubs for dog training/trailing/testing and hunting dur-

ing open seasons.

The pass is good through December 31, 2012

Spring Hunt Test

The spring hunt test is proceeding as planned. It will be held May 19th & 20th at Kelly Farms east of Hugo. Screening of volunteers will begin immediately, if not sooner.

Pending the approval of the AKC we will once again be holding a walking field trial this spring. I would like to extend a personal invitation to all of you who have never participated in a field trial but believe your dog may have what it takes to compete in this game. This is your opportunity! Ruffian and Erica have won several Obedience and Rally Classes at the NSS. They were Nationally Ranked #8 ~ Preferred Agility ~ 2011. Training started at 7 weeks old and has been going on for the past 8 1/2 years.

Driving to Fargo 2 days a week @ 110 mile round trip. Erica is now starting Ruffians Granddaughter Bubbles to follow in Grandma's paw prints.

January 3, 2012 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Meeting was called to order at 7:02pm

Members Present: Janelle Elfstrand, Kathy Erickson, Dan Erickson, Chris Benskin, John Zeman, Russ Killian, Donna

Schauer, Todd Piechowski, Joni Liljedahl, Dick Greeman, Karin Greeman, Aaron DeZurik, Lacy Bauer. (13)

Minutes from November Board meeting were approved as read. Minutes from November General meeting was approved with

the following change to correct the typing error under the “Picnic discussion” to read a “fun day’ to be held at the shooting

range at a later date. Minutes were then approved.

Report of President: Russ reported that he thought it was pathetic only 13 people showed up for the election but he was happy

to have them. He thanked the core group who always show up and expressed hope for the future that we would have bigger at-

tendance.

Report of Board: No report

Report of Treasurer: Chris reported the checking account has $9,721.86 with $234.60 allocated for rescue.

Report of Secretary: We received info from the MFFTC regarding their winter meeting to be held @ Mad Jack’s in Brooklyn

Park on 1/17/12 – social hour @6pm, meeting starts @ 7pm. Also received email from AKC regarding the changes to the Point-

ing Breed Hunting Test Regulations. A copy was placed on the table for members to view. This can also be accessed on the

AKC website.

Report of Committees:

Show: Mary sent emailed a report as she could not attend this meeting. Judges have been selected. We will only be holding one

obedience and Rally trial. The timeline will be Obedience and Rally, Show 1, lunch break, then Show 2. Lacy passed around a

trophy list to see if anyone would sponsor a class or classes.

Spring Field Trial: May 25th-28th @ Crow Hasaan. Kevin Jahr will Chair and Chris Benskin will Secretary. It has been ap-

proved by the AKC & the Parent Club.

Fall Field Trial: No report

Rescue: Todd reported that Graf was trained by the Horse & Hunt Club has found a new home. Mary has 1 male dog that is

expected to go to Todd & Jill’s soon to be placed. Janelle still has 5yr old Molly who is looking for a new home.

Website: Todd has looked into this again and will send Chris the info.

Hunt Test: Russ reports he is trying to find birds but not having much luck. It will be held at Kelly Farms the 3rd weekend in

May if we have it.

Game Fair: Joni reports the contract has been signed and sent in. As always, this is held the 2nd & 3rd weekend in August.

Banquet: Will be held on March 24th. Karin & Janelle have narrowed the facility search down to either Gulden’s or Moe’s. A

decision will be made soon. We are looking for donations for raffle and silent auction items.

Election of New Members: No new members to vote in.

Unfinished Business: Discussion was made again regarding the club meeting place. Lacy presented possibly meeting at Ca-

bella’s. She will check into this more. We will have the July meeting during the annual club picnic that will be held at the

Huffman’s residence in July. It was determined that we will not be going out to the shooting range during this meeting but we

will try to have a “fun day” at the range at a different time.

New Business: Chris recommended that we try to hold a Walking Field Trial. Is there anyone who would be interested in chair-

ing & being the secretary for this event? Donna will send Kitty a note to put the request into the newsletter.

A motion was made & passed to have the same Stimulus Plan for the banquet as we had last year.

A motion was made & passed for the banquet committee to spend up to $350.00 for “raffle items or prizes” for the banquet.

Meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm. Members Present : Mary Morris, Lacy Bauer, Joni Liljehahl, Dick Greeman, Karin Greeman, John Zeman, Troy Ryan, Chris Benskin, Jim Morgel, Russ Killian, Janelle Elfstrand, Donna Schauer, Tom Huffman, Kathy Huffman Minutes were approved as read from General Membership Meeting January 3, 2012 Minutes were approved as read from Board Meeting January 3, 2012 Report of President: Hold until later. Report of Treasurer: 9148.16 in Account, 459.69 Rescue Fund Report of Secretary: none Report of Committees Walking Field Trial: Approved : John Zeman(Chairman), Troy Ryan (Secretary) Set for April 21-22, 2012 at Kelly Farm. There was discussion on what happens at a field trial, competing against other dogs, and that it is a good experience if never attended one. It has been helpful for members, and encouraged members to attend the trial as it is good experience. Request for volunteers for the Trial, will need a couple of people to help. Lunch will be kept simple. There may be a need for a dog wagon if it snows as weather is unpredictable and if we are on the west side of the Kelly Farm grounds, might need trucks also. Spring Field Trial: Approved, Chairman (Kevin Jahr), and Chris Benskin ( Secretary), May 25-28

th, at Crow Hasaan. Some of the judges are found but still looking for others.

Specialty Show June 8th

, Jordan, Minnesota : Chair, Mary Morris, Approved and ready to go for the specialty show. Game Fair – Joni reported all is same and no news to report Website : (Chris Benskin) Website is up and ready and being used. Still has some kinks to work out but will be learning more as we go. Discussed search engine optimization as when members “Google” the club it still goes to the old website. The new site is www.gspcmn.org Chris is working on glitches and has also started a Facebook Page to promote the website. It was encouraged to all members to log into new site, so that contact information is updated and will be able to renew membership via the website too. Banquet: Will be held March 24

th, 2012 at Moe’s, RSVP reminders will be send out from web-

site, deadline is March 17th for RSVP, concerned that site for banquet is remodeling, and hope

to be done by night of banquet. 6pm is social hour, and 7pm will be dinner. Donations are needed for raffle prizes Rescue : Molly has been placed, the male that was at Mary’s has now been placed at Janelle’s. Spring Hunt Test: Russ Killian (Chair), Joni Liljedahl (Secretary) – Approved. Russ has se-cured birds for the test. Judges are confirmed, Dave Benson, Jim Morgel, Tom Vanek, Jim Hedman. 4-Wheelers will be used for the test, the test will be held at Kelly Farm on May 19

th

and 20th. Volunteers are needed.

Picnic - Huffmans – Picnic and meeting will be July 21st. Bring Fishing equipment and details

will follow

Unfinished Business : Cabela’s in Maple Grove is option for future meetings, they do require us to be out by 9pm, most meetings are done by then, there is a small fee involved, and we must meet in the deli, restaurant area, Left option open to try in the future. Will discuss at future meeting, it was agreed to hold the May meeting at current location and discuss trying other op-tions for after picnic meeting. New Business NSS Delegate – Mary Morris is approved to vote, discussed National show locations up for vote at the National show in April, present choices to club. Signed and approved for Mary to be the delegate Millie Frame: Memorial discussed to honor Millie at the Hunt Test, by dedicating the weekend to her memory. The service will be held April 14

th; funeral home handling service is Mattson Fu-

neral home in Forest Lake, MN. It was encouraged of membership to sign onto guest book and share favorite memories of Millie. Donations are requested for the Brittany rescue. Janelle, sug-gested a donation to her rescue or donation of a tree, will print a biography on the premium of the Hunt Test Motion approved to dedicate Hunt Test in Millie’s memory Decided to add a blurb in Brittany Club Newsletter about dedication of Hunt Test Motion approved for donation from Club in Millie’s Memory Motion approved to print banner for Hunt Test, Dedicating memory to Millie Frame, determined will be part of Hunt Test Costs and is a committee decision Presidents Update: Sent email to AKC regarding issue with January election, as there was con-fusion regarding which board members terms were over and whose were not, the ballot was in-correct, we had two people coming off, and 2 new members in place. The situation Joni’s name was not on ballot, Todd’s name was on ballot and shouldn’t have been, he has 2 year term Janelle was on ballot-2 year term. Website has been updated with officer names and correct year terms, will leave election stand as is and upon election next year will make sure that ballot is correct. AKC has not responded to issue, so since we had the correct amount of members elected will let election stand as is.

Meeting was called to order at 8:23 pm Members Present – Russ Kilian, Janelle Elfstrand, Karin Greeman, Chris Benskin, Donna Schauer, Mary Morris, John Zeman, Jim Morgel, Joni Liljedahl Old business : covered in General membership meeting New Business : Fun Day : Approximate date will be June 16

th for a Fun Day shoot, Jim Morgel is handling the

shoot but the date is taken. Jim is going to gather potential available dates open in June, July, and August and email the board members to discuss before the next meeting. It was men-tioned that we could use the fun day as a test for the website and its sign up capabilities for events, discussed costs of 16 dollars per person but that could change due to amount of peo-ple who sign up. Action : Jim will check dates and discuss options with board members Increased participation: Jim Morgel brought to the boards attention the issue of increasing participation and membership. It was discussed putting up flyers in supportive establishments to advertise club and club membership, and club events. . Chris volunteered to design a flyer and distribute to members for posting. Vet Clinic : Janelle – Vet, Gina(friend of Janelle), would be willing to hold a vaccination clinic, discount on 3 year vaccinations, and heartworm test, would be held at her clinic, there was a conflict with original dates of April 24

th, will be moved to different dates, discussed possible

option of holding clinic in conjunction with Hunt test. Janelle will discuss with Vet on options of dates and locations
